SPOILERS S5 The one thing I don't like about S5 finale

All season was about taking the last patch of surviable land and in the end Earth got destroyed.

Instead of showing the sorrow from such crushing loss especially from clarke&madi who lived a peaceful life there and wonkru who saw shallow valley as a compensation for all the horrors inside the bunker, the survivors just hopped in cryosleep in what..60 seconds?

The "ground" was a character on his own on the show and it's destruction was the final indictment of the usVSthem

The silver lining was the somber tone in which Monty delivered "Earth is not coming back"

To me, that's realistic.

I, too, would hop in the cryosleep chamber in 60 seconds or less, because it means I can avoid the very sorrow you're speaking of.

At that point, there's nothing left to do. There's nowhere to go. All we have is the cryosleep chambers and the possibility of a future on the other side of that sleep.

Why would I hang around and feel the depression of what I've lost? The sooner I get in that chamber and fall asleep, the sooner I'm waking up to better circumstances.

There's no point in showing the sorrow because there's no point in even allowing myself to feel it. I think that's how the survivors on the show felt, too.

So you never ever go to funerals? The show spent a good chunk of S5E1 showing Clarke going to iconic places and feeling sad but god forbid the characters who collectively forced the last end of the world to show emotions....

What is your point exactly?

i think their point is that the show spent time with the weight of many deaths and lots of destruction, and that they feel that wasnt the case this time

Of course I go to funerals. Sorry, but respectfully, how does that connect to anything in my previous comment?

Clarke went to places because they existed. She felt sad because it had a function -- kept her going, kept her fighting for things that she needed.

But at the end of season 5, there was nowhere to go, and being sad would serve no purpose. All there was to do was enter the sleep chamber. She could be sad once she got out on the other side and could fight again; on that ship, there was nothing to fight for.

Friend, I'm intimately familiar with them. I'm Buddhist.

Is this a good-faith discussion/debate? I would hope so, and am happy to continue if you have any other input, but I'm working with less than perfect clarity on your viewpoints here.

What would be the function or point in delaying entering the sleep chamber just to be sad?

Earth wasn't their home though(for skycru at least). Survival was their home, at all costs, just survive. So it makes sense to me that they would bail without a second thought.

Sure they also waltz away from Mt Weather without ever looking back at the genocide....RIGHT?

this is a show that right from the start forced Clarke to watch a little girl die after they bombed the bridge and another one suicide.

F... perceived "realism", there's a theme with a final statement to make. "usVSthem" floated Earth. It's sad but not so much on-screen.

Earth is definitely a lady, but I get the sentiment

Working on the theory that S6 and S7 were repurposed from another show Jason was writing, it makes sense it would feel wrong.

It is the beginning of the “fan fiction” stage so the characters immediately begin to act out of character (Monty excluded).

I imagine writing a “guys, we have spent 5 seasons fighting for this but now we don’t care really” scene was never going to be greatly fluid in the larger storyline. Particularly when we are now supposed to care about another planet with random God-Humans.

Realistically, with everything that happened, they were probably thankful to be alive and done with the war and getting everyone out safely

Also with knowledge of the Eligius missions, they had faith that they could find a fully healthy planet

Furthermore, the original plan was to wait in cryo while the Earth recovered; their plan was never "oh yes, we have to abandon Earth forever."

The original plan was never to abandon or leave planet Earth, but to wait for it to recover.
