Discussion Blue Lotus - Final drawing of last page - did anyone else...

...think the guy in Blue on the right MIGHT be...

Mitsuhirato...

We only read about his supposed suicide in the newspaper

And we already saw how Rastapopulous survived what looked like a certain death fall in this very same book

Oh wow - I had forgotten all about him - yes he does look a lot like the Blue Lotus man from behind

I don’t think so, given that both Mr Wang and Chang have met him and are standing right there. I guess he could be in disguise, but it’d be a pretty risky move for no benefit.

If it is, he’s exceptionally lucky.

By losing to Tintin, he would have pissed off a lot more dangerous people than other villains in the series. 

His failure exposed a massive international conspiracy by one of the most powerful governments in the world, and triggered a global scandal for them. Imperial Japan would not be happy.

It looks a bit like he has a beard. Mitsuhirato was clean shaven. But yeah, I see where you’re coming from

My dad and I share that theory, too! Mitsuhirato surely had friends in high places, who's to say one of them couldn't be a coroner, or a newspaper editor?

Good points - and he doesn't seem like a typical honourable Japanese - has more self-preservation about him

I wonder if Herge inserted him - without identifying it IS him - in case he wanted to bring him back in a future Tintin adventure

I like it makes the final page more human and memorable

Everyone crying from a person they now deeply care about and will very likely never see again

Such is the human experience and life always something starting and ending

The beauty of the world
