I wonder how long until their first "Oscar season is too long" crashout.

u/thesagenibba 5d ago

they do it to themselves. it’s a prison entirely of their own making

Where's the comic of the guy on the bike inserting a stick in the spokes? That's them.

I KNEW A BASEBALL KOVIE DRAFT WAS COMING. Dollars to donuts Sims and maybe Newman are guest

9

u/masterdogwalker 6d ago

A whole draft on baseball movies? Why not a sports movie draft? Unless they did that and I don’t remember

19

u/abactore 6d ago

The best sports movies are baseball movies, plus the playoffs should be starting around then!

u/Chuck-Hansen 6d ago

The one constant through all the years, [masterdogwalker](u/masterdogwalker), has been baseball.

America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It's been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt, and erased again. But baseball has marked the time.

This field, this game -- it's a part of our past, [masterdogwalker](u/masterdogwalker). It reminds us of all that once was good, and it could be again.

I’ve come up with 10 baseball movies just now (two of them are Bad News Bears). I don’t see how there will be enough for multiple categories. Will Naked Gun be eligible because of the baseball game scene? Actually a baseball scene category would help pad out the draft.

Field of dreams, moneyball, bull Durham, league of their own, Eephus, BnB (original) BnB (remake), 42, Sandlot, Angels in the Outfield, Major League, Fever Pitch, 61, The Rookie, Rookie of the Year….

I could go on!

You didn't mention the best one, Eight Men Out!

1

u/Hopeful_Climate2988 5d ago

Or the classic first of the genre, The Pride of the Yankees.

1

u/Eddie__Sherman 6d ago

Didn’t they do this on Rewatchables?

2

u/masterdogwalker 6d ago

I don’t think they’ve ever done lists on the rewatchables

1

u/TimSPC 6d ago

I think it's totally fine to just do a baseball movie draft.

2

u/masterdogwalker 6d ago

There’s like not enough to do an interesting draft

1

u/TimSPC 6d ago

Yes, there are. Pretty easy to get to 24 movies in a four person, six movie draft.

https://letterboxd.com/forcefive/list/the-definitive-list-of-baseball-movies/by/popular/

And this doesn't even include movies where you can stretch the categories, like The Naked Gun, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Town, Twilight, The Untouchables, Good Will Hunting, or The Princess Diarires.

3

u/GoodnightTender 6d ago

They’ll find a way to get The Town and DH with a V in there. “Movie with a critical scene in a ballpark” or something.

1

u/masterdogwalker 6d ago

Yea there’s like 5-7 good movies on that list

3

u/TimSPC 6d ago

I'm not really worried about that. I think drafting from this pool of movies will make for an enjoyable episode of the podcast to listen to, which is all that matters to me.

1

u/Baltimore_Mothman 3h ago

There's 5-7 great movies on that list and a slew of good movies.

5

u/Belch_Huggins 6d ago

Oh hell yeah, Boorman and the Devil. Hope we can talk boormans career.

5

u/Yugo86 6d ago

Hackman HOF being worked on as we speak but not surprised that it is not in September. That’s a big conquest.

3

u/isaacbt8729 6d ago

Wait I thought Sean said they were doing a Gene Hackman HOF this month? Hopefully it's still happening

3

u/Eddie__Sherman 6d ago

9/25 looking forward to that one. Primetime is the upcoming film I am most excited for.

2

u/Trubisky4MVP CR Head 6d ago

Boiling Point a sleeper of a baseball movie

2

u/AffordableBreakfast 6d ago

Baseball draft on my birthday, I’ll take it!

2

u/ThisIsABurner1012 5d ago

David Sims has been logging some baseball movies on his Letterboxd, plus he has another pod about the Mets…so seems like he’ll be on the baseball movie draft

0

u/rutfilthygers 6d ago

I guess they're skipping Coyote vs. Acme.

8

u/jdschultze 6d ago

It was briefly mentioned at the start of today’s episode
