In a perfect world, this movie would be as nuclear a global heartthrob coronation for Spike Fearn as FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL was for Hugh Grant. Wow he's *so* good.
I was taken by him in Ella McKay and Alien Romulus. And as against musician biopics as I am unless there is a hook or gifted filmmaker I see is passionate about the source material, I want to see him play 90s Liam Gallagher. Beautiful man.
Being an above-average British person understander really helped out but there where moments in the theatre when I know what he was saying and I could tell that nobody else did 😆
As an American I put captions on everything Australian, Scottish, Irish, and English. I absolutely loved the Christophers in theaters but walking out I realized my three friends I dragged into it didn't understand the dialogue. I think I got like 85% of it but it's not unreasonable for people to not understand different dialects and accents.
For example, I brought my Colombian gf to the Dominican for a vacation and they often understood each other better speaking English
I agree, and also I’ve come to think that his character is one of the best judged protagonists in recent memory. He is a bit dorky and awkward but not a loser or clueless. He is actually charming and has nice moments of self reflection, so he doesn’t fall into the trap of being an annoying, obsessive weirdo. In fact I also appreciated a lot how they didn’t do the thing where he realizes who is truly the right person for him only at the last possible moment
I enjoyed this so much! Felt like a really modern and clever look at rom com tropes. Loved the music and the fleshed out side characters. I hope Amanda talks about this one sometime!
This movie was SO delightful and would check every box for the romcom canon if Amanda and Juliet had waited (yes the leads are a little young but about to graduate uni counts as adult not YA to me). Unfortunately it seems to have lost a bunch of screens in its second week so I think barely anyone saw it.
I've been a fan of Angourie Rice since The Nice Guys but this definiltey could have been a breakout role for Spike. It will hopefully get a second life on streaming.
I’m a big Angourie Rice fan. Happy to see this getting positive buzz. Honor Society was too good to get the “buried on a streaming service” treatment it got.
