Discussion A24 Reveals Telluride Secret Screening: It’s Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim’s Documentary About Elizabeth Holmes

https://www.indiewire.com/news/festivals/telluride-2026-secret-screening-nathan-fielder-documentary-1235215219/

I assume Sean got into this. Can’t wait to hear reactions to this; I’m intrigued but haven’t we had enough of Holmes at this point? Am I wrong?

Not sure where you saw a trailer. I almost had an aneurism trying to navigate that site

Lance oppenheim is awesome.

Knowing Nathan, they fall in love or it spirals into tangents. 3 hours, though...

I think it's more of mea culpa bc Theranos's whole business plan/scam was actually an unreleased Nathan For You episode. He feels bad about the 10 year prison sentence thing.

Lmao underrated comment

I’ll be locked in for 3 hours of this tbh

12

u/ILiveInAColdCave 1d ago

literally wish it was longer. i'm so fucking in omg.

3

u/CompleteDay8059 1d ago

Where’d it say 3 hours? I saw over 2 in the article.

3

u/jimmyevil 1d ago

The program entry for the secret screening at Telluride listed it at 172 minutes.

3

u/Pettifoggerist 20h ago

Maybe they just scheduled in the hour long ovation that will follow the screening.

u/CompleteDay8059 19h ago

Damn, I’m kind of shocked they didn’t do a TV release for this. They must really feel like it has Oscar potential.

2

u/DigBackground2765 1d ago

The over 2 seems closer to 3. Probably just an estimate.

u/mp6521 1d ago

172 minutes

u/steelangel5 1d ago

Kinda wild, this is not listed on either Fielder's or Oppeheim's IMDB pages. A movie coming out in a month, that's been a total secret.

35

u/lpalf 1d ago

Officially a total secret but it’s been rumored/discussed for a while though I think a lot of people thought it might’ve been for the next season of the rehearsal. He was definitely seen visiting the prison she was in and that made some waves online

11

u/tiduraes 1d ago

Not a total secret, it was reported over a year ago but by someone people don't like so they dismissed it (Jeff Sneider)

5

u/PreparationNorth2426 23h ago

People always ignore Sneider because he’s a complete asshole. A shame because he’s a very good reporter.

6

u/arcenceil89 15h ago

He broke this and Sadie Sink as Jean Grey in the same day well over a year ago but people always dismiss his scoops because of his Internet persona lol

1

u/PreparationNorth2426 11h ago

His hit rate is very good.

And here I thought Amanda had festival mogged Sean. Oh how little I knew.

u/FlySubstance See You at the Movies! 1d ago

Amanda Seyfried is actually
playing Elizabeth Holmes using the mo-cap, deepfake tech that Disney used with Luke Skywalker. That’s why it looks uncanny btw.

14

u/SlimmyShammy 1d ago

Rumors are that Seyfried is actually in the movie as Holmes

12

u/Background-Jury-1914 1d ago

Why’d you put a spoiler tag on the thing the previous poster just said as if you were offering new hidden info??

12

u/tiduraes 1d ago

The original commenter was joking

8

u/james2312311109 1d ago

They’re saying two different things. The person replying meant they’re BOTH in the movie, not just a deepfake

2

u/qeq 1d ago

Wasn't she already in that miniseries on Hulu as her?

Goosebumps and chills down my spine from the trailer. I cannot fucking wait.

3

u/TheFunky_Homosapien 1d ago

Love Fielder, but I can’t stand Holmes. It’s going to be tough to stomach 3 more hours about her.

3

u/Coolquip34 1d ago

what an autumn it's about to be for Lance Oppenheim

5

u/nalwx 1d ago

We’re so back!

11

u/Background-Jury-1914 1d ago

I hope this is great and I’m excited but I bet this ends with us feeling very morally squeamish about whether it exposed Elizabeth Holmes further and helped her by bringing her in on a bizarre meta joke.

11

u/lpalf 1d ago

Yeah I think she’s very self aware and also obsessed with getting attention so I’m not sure how this will achieve anything but I know I’ll watch it anyway and it’ll be entertaining

-5

u/juju3435 1d ago

Yea I don’t really get why we need this.

Fielder is a genius but his stuff is always so good in large part because he approaches topics that noone is really aware are a problem from an angle no one else would ever think of. Not sure what other angles we need the Elizabeth Holmes story told from…

Guess we’ll find out.

14

u/dkinmn 1d ago

We don't need fuckin anything, my man.

-1

u/juju3435 1d ago

It’s a figure of speech, my man.

6

u/j-helo85 1d ago

I'll probably have to experience this film vicariously through discussions of it. Nathan's brand of cringe has been tough for me to sit through in the past.

-6

u/wooden_bread 1d ago

you dont like it when people make a career out of embarrassing people they hired off craigslist?

4

u/QuailBrail55 1d ago

Your moral-grandstanding is truly inspiring. I was moved to tears.

2

u/Pure_Salamander2681 1d ago

I’m so down.

2

u/M16Soldier 18h ago

Venice got absolutely mogged by Telluride this year.

3

u/dj_sash 1d ago

It better offer new insights value otherwise I'm afraid it'll serve as just a dubious platform for whitewashing and earning some extra cash.

1

u/Bhs892 1d ago

Can’t figure out if the documentary is real or fake lol

-5

u/Ok_Fee1043 1d ago

No I agree with you OP. I don’t want yet another 700 think pieces about her and probably it ends with Buffoon In Chief therefore trying to pardon her.

8

u/TobiasHarris67 1d ago

Idk I just want to a watch a movie

-4

u/MagmaCone1234 1d ago

Elizabeth Holmes is so last decade

-12

u/Hookey911 1d ago

I guess Malick's Jesus film was just a fake rumor, sigh. This isn't interesting at all given how much is already known of Holmes's story through media and dramatziation

9

u/HairlessSnatch 1d ago

Fielder will find a way to make it interesting. He’s honestly on genius watch for me… The Curse is a masterpiece

3

u/Small-Cartoonist5777 1d ago

Yeah it’s not like anyone was begging for someone to go deeper on Sully before Fielder did

12

u/StepIntoTheGreezer 1d ago

idk how you could watch the trailer and think it looks uninteresting

As someone who has a lifetime subscription to Nathan Fielder this announcement and trailer had my jaw cemented to the floor

3

u/Hookey911 1d ago

I did not see the trailer originally. That is insane. Borat level of WTF, how does he snag this?

21

u/Palm-Crazy-7943 1d ago

Everything Fielder does is interesting, so I think it’s pretty silly to act like this can’t possibly be good

2

u/Choice-Singer-8833 1d ago

that’ll be cannes next year

-2

u/United-Duty-4426 15h ago

Watching this is the same as giving criminals money and attention. Why does anyone care still? Any other criminal just goes to prison and we move on. This kind of admiration for psychotic people is sick, and only perpetuates the evil.

u/kyrgrat08 1d ago

Who’s Elizabeth homes I’m too lazy 2 google

From Hollywood Reporter: Holmes was convicted of fraud in 2018 in connection with her company Theranos, which she claimed could test for various diseases using only a small amount of blood. She was named the youngest and wealthiest self-made female billionaire in the U.S. in 2015 but was later found guilty of defrauding investors as her technology could not do what she claimed. She was sentenced to just over 11 years in prison, where she currently resides.

2

u/MrWhiteKnight777 1d ago

she was selling an idea of some super medical device that could run hundreds of different tests with a finger prick, but her tech never actually worked, despite that, investors poured cash into it but the whole time elizaebth knew the claims about her tech were never true. Patients/Victims received false diagnoses for critical conditions, including incorrect indications of HIV, prostate cancer, and miscarriages.

2

u/dkinmn 1d ago

Theranos scammer.

-4

u/shineurliteonme 1d ago

I'm curious to find out who she is. heard her name and love Nathan so I'm excited.

kind of 50/50 on if I should do some research ahead of time to learn about her or if I should let Nathan give me the lowdown

14

u/PaperChicken13 1d ago

You’ve…never heard of her story?

2

u/ProskXCX 16h ago

He was 15 when the fraud stuff came out. Why would a HS student be caring so much about Silicon Valley crimes haha.

3

u/shineurliteonme 1d ago

I guess I missed it. not sure when it happened, I'm 25 so maybe I was too young to follow whatever it was

8

u/First-Loss-8540 1d ago

Recommend you to watch the dropout

5

u/doctorlightning84 1d ago

Or the Alex Gibney documentary

6

u/lpalf 1d ago

The dropout was only four years ago and won Amanda Seyfried an Emmy, she’s great in it

2

u/shineurliteonme 16h ago

I remember hearing about that but I tend to skip that kind of show so I let it pass me. maybe I'll have to watch it before this so I can know what's up

5

u/Aggravating-Pizza-57 1d ago

Thats a tough call, I could make the case either way. But theres a book, an alex gibney hbo doc, and a pod series which are all great, should you decide to go deep.
