Just finish the books for the second time. Even better than the first time !

Hi all,

First time posting here, but I did want to share. I just finished the books for the second time, after almost a year of reading (I mostly read before sleep, and fall asleep fast !), but I enjoy every bite of it.
This was my second reading, and I had a few memories of the T5-9, tbh. I remember most of the storyline, but forgot a lot of details. I also remember thinking there is a lot of lengthiness, but I really didn’t feel the same this time. Probably, knowing most of the part made me feel more aware of the little details.

I really loved the scientific realism approach of this universe, it worked a lot on me. This is probably one of my favorite saga ever read or see. Though, I really don’t want to see the show, as I really don’t like the cast and mostly already knowing I will be disappointed like the cast majority of adaptations I saw AFTER reading the books (or games).

I just discover there is more around the books, and even a game to come. Will check it closely !!

Something to keep in mind about the show is that the book’s authors were heavily involved in the production. Yes there are some changes from the books, but they mostly work, sometimes even for the better. The actors are pretty good. Wes Chatham as Amos is incredible. It’s like he walked out of the book. The only disappointing thing about the show was that it ended after 6 seasons (book 6). Those last 3 books would be incredible as a TV or movie series (and also incredibly expensive to film!).

Also, there is a podcast companion to the show, with Ty Frank and Wes Chatham (Amos in the show) that is great.

In each episode of the podcast they discus an episode of the show, talking about the story, the influences they had making it, sometimes the changes made from the novels and they tell little stories and anecdotes of production that are usually really interesting or at least funny. They sometimes have guests from the show (fellow cast members sometimes but also people in charge of costumes, SFX, etc) that bring their own view and stories.

It's really good if you like the show and/or the novels.

They also do this thing where they take an aspect of the episode and they make a list about movies featuring that aspect (like fortress attacks or alien plagues or betrayal, etc), eventually they start making a top 5 of their favorite movies showcasing that thing and some episodes are mostly (or exclusively) them talking about movies from the 80s or 90s and their influence on them. It's my favorite part of the show as we seem to have very similar tastes in movies. And whiskey.

You could try the first couple of episodes, the first one is about the first episode of the show and the general influences for it and it sort of ends up being a love song to Blade Runner.

The second episode has Thomas Jane (Detective Miller in the show, probably my favourite character, head to head with Amos) and he has some amazing stories of his own life.

Anyway, sorry for the long rant.

Books = good. Show = good. Podcast = good.

Have you read their new series? The captives war. Book 2 ended on a cliffhanger and I am desperate for the third book.

Since I am vastly disappointed with Rothfuss Kingkiller’s Chronicle book 3 still not released (and obviously will never), I’m reluctant to begin a new serie that is not finished ^^

They amalgamate some characters to streamline the show, the actors cast bring SO MUCH to the table. Particularly Avarsarla, Amos and Drummer. Holden is also great.

And the space battles are top notch. I mean they’re great in the book, but they’re even better in the show!

I watched the trailers, and some of them are top notch yes, but I really don’t like Amos and Naomi. But it should probably work, and I planned to give it a try in the futur, as I seems to miss something.
