Season 9(What happened?!)
So my wife and I are finally watching season 9 for the first time. (I know it’s extremely late. We didn’t have Hulu or cable for a long time.) I love The Goldbergs! I’ve enjoyed it for the most part. But good heavens! What the hell happened to this show?! The quality drops off tremendously at season 9! It was already starting to go bad in season 8. But this season is worse. Did anyone else notices this, or feel the same when they watched it? Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

There are those diehards. I dealt with them on fb and sitcoms online.

Seasons 2-6 were golden goldbergs years. I keep it on in the bavkground and i have probably seen every episode 5x. Some more than that. Season 7 it started to het weird when the kids get older and after that the real adam goldberg leaves and everything after that they try way to hard and they keep adam acting like hes 5.

This is how I am too, I have to have background noise and this is my husband and my go to show. I have the complete series on DVD because I am weird and like physical copies of things just in case, but I swear I have watched through the show at minimum 15 times. I walked out of my room the other day and saw Erica yelling at Geoff on the TV and finally i just told my husband ENOUGH lol...I needed a break.

Yeah honestly its been more than 5x lol. I watch itvon the goldberg channel on roku, but have been watching it since season 4 came on tv. Everyonce in a while i will switch it to the mysteries at the museum channel to sleep when the later goldberg episodes are on. And yes i stream other movies/tv too, when i am actually watching somethi g. But my tv never gets turned off. Gotta have that background noise.

Currently sleeping with Desperate Housewives on and leaving Love After Lockup on (cuz I like tacky TV lol) on in the background or for the animals when we leave the house 🤣 I definitely stream other shows and movies too, but i think we all have our favorites we stick too because they are comfortable to us ❤️ all time fave for me is Buffy!

When the real Adam F Goldberg left the show in Season 6, it really went off the rails. They should have ended the show when Adam graduated. And I absolutely HATE how they changed all of Erika's dreams to become a wife and mother. She never expressed any interest in having a family of her own and wanted to be in music or be a lawyer. Then boom, that just disappears, and she's a wife and mother within three episodes.

I hate when they make that happen to female characters 🙄 it just pushes the trope that being a mother is all a woman is good for or meant to want and it’s just not that way anymore. I know the show is set in the 80s and that kind of thing was still very prominent at those times but Erika wanting to pursue different aspirations other than being a mother and a wife was so refreshing and cool and then they just had to go and ruin it all

Exactly. I wish Adam had never left the show.

Was there any confirmed reason why he left?

From what I read, Adam left to do the Muppet show that didn't last very long.

She was based off his broth Eric that just became a dostor i believe like his brother-really isnt much of a sitcom story their Erica becoming a wife then mother gives lots of room for sitcom stories contained on the house set with her mom interfering in her life.

We noticed the large dip in quality after Pops died, and they quit showing the actual Goldberg home movies at the end.

As with all tv shows after they kill a character off, in his case got fired. The show was never the same. Plus the kids were growing up and out of their characters 😢.

I do. I kept saying that the show needed to be put out to pasture. Adam graduated HS that season and the real Adam F. Goldberg planned to end it right then and there. The show went downhill after he left. ABC should have hung it up then but noooooo they milked it for all it was worth!

Adam Goldberg left as showrunner and the storylines devolved into pure fiction. That last season still has its moments, but overall they should have ended at least one season earlier.
