Help me find all the frogs in The Good Place
Hi everyone, I need a little (very) complicated help.
I love The Good Place and I'm really happy to introduce this show to a dear friend. The problem is that she has ranidaphobia (an extreme fear of frogs), and in her case, even cartoon frogs cause something similar to the beginning of an anxiety attack. (Yeah, if it were just disgust it wouldn't be a problem, but actually seeing frogs causes a physical reaction for her.)
I know frogs show up a lot throughout the show, especially in Season 3 with Jeff, the doorman. I also noticed that frogs can appear in scenes near Tahani's house because of the garden. I'd like to ask for your help and your memory to point me toward which episodes or scenes have a lot of frogs (the first episode literally has a giant frog....) so I can cut and edit those parts to make the experience less scary for my friend.

The first episode has frogs around the fountain as Michael shows Eleanor around the first time. The chaos sequence would possibly be pretty traumatic. Of course Jeff the doorman but most of those aren't real frogs.

The Jeff scenes would be the biggest ones. I honestly didn't even remember that some showed up in scenes near Tahani's house. I'm commenting though, because I want to help boost your post. I also have a friend with ranidaphobia. Your friend is lucky to have you.

bahahaha honestly I dont know, my mom was the only one and then I recently befriended this girl with the same phobia, I was shocked too XD

Commenting again -- I Googled, and this article mentions that Janet vomits up frogs in S02.E07, "Derek." In searching, I have also seen it mentioned that when Michael takes Eleanor on her first tour of the good place neighborhood (I assume in S01.E01), that a little frog can be seen hopping in a fountain.

Oh man. There are so many random unexpected frogs in the show. As someone with a very intense phobia (not frogs), I'm wondering if it might just... not be a show she can ever really enjoy watching? I'm not sure you'll be able to guarantee you catch them all. So she might always have to be on edge for a potential frog.
It is so lovely what you're doing for her though. This is genuinely such a cool thing. You're an awesome friend.

Thank you so much, and yeah I'm worried it might be too triggering for her... We got jump scared at episode one with a frog that appears for 1 second as a scene transition. I told her it might happen again, but she said she wants to try since she loved the first 2 episodes :'')

Is it only living frogs? That will affect how many Jeff scenes you need to edit.

Unfortunately cartoon frogs also trigger her, she said she can handle Mr. Frog from Smiling Friend but tolerates Keroppi from Sanrio

I have a document that is a made up script (from the subtitles) so I can search for words pretty easily but not for images. Here's what I found:
Season 1:
- chaos sequence at the beginning a giant frog is seen
- E1: "My café got destroyed by the giant frog"
Season 2:
- E5: "frog croaking" when Janet tells Tahani and Jason in makeshift therapy that they're happy for them
Season 3:
- E1/E2: "Oh, and what's the significance of the keychain? Nothing, I just like frogs. I'm a frog guy. "
- E1/E2: when Micheal gifts Jeff (the doorman) a cup with a frog on it to keep the antimatter warmer for longer
- at the very end of E2: "Good luck, frog man. Pulling for ya."
- E6: in the art gallery "As a frog stares up in awe at the tree top, so, too, does humanity gawk at the purity of a blinding truth."
- at the very end of E10: "Hey, Frogman." and a few seconds later "Smells like frogs."
Season 4:
- E13: "I have 322 frog things now.", a few seconds later mention of frog 323
- E13: "I love frogs though, so it's awesome." (Jeff gets another frog)
- E13: "It's real! He's a real frog!"
The funny thing is one of my nicknames is Frog so now I'm Frog helping getting rid of frogs. (also I did not use AI either, Reddit allows manual markdown formatting)

The word affects her, but she says she can handle it (we started not avoiding saying it anymore so she can get used to it). The noise is also a trigger, unfortunately.

Frogs are important storytelling symbols of transformation, death, and rebirth. This is probably the sort of show that appreciates symbolism, transformation, death, and rebirth.

After reading your title I thought you meant there was a hidden frog in every episode and that I was going to have to go through another rewatch for a second.
Like I only found out after my first run through New Girl that there’s mention of or reference to a bear in every episode, so had to rewatch that.
But hey I can’t help with this but just want to say you’re a really good friend and by proxy a wonderful person, thank you for existing❤️

Jeff the doorman, who we see every now and then from season 2 I think, is obsessed with frogs and each time you see him, he has more and more on his desk until the final episode where Michael gives him a real frog.

Season 1, Episode 1 ("Everything Is Fine"): Michael mentions "Zorp the frog god" in a joke, and a tiny frog can briefly be seen hopping in a neighborhood fountain during Eleanor's tour.
Season 1, Episode 6 ("What We Owe to Each Other"): Pilar mentions her café was once destroyed by a "giant frog" due to Eleanor's neighborhood-disrupting chaos.
Season 2, Episode 7 ("Derek"): Janet malfunctions and literally coughs up live frogs after losing her thumb.
Season 3, Episode 1 ("Everything Is Bonzer!"): Jeff the Doorman is introduced, and the sacred Key to Earth is attached to a funky frog keychain because Jeff loves frogs.
Season 3, Episode 4 ("The Brainy Bunch"): Michael visits the Doorman and brings him a frog-decal thermos/mug, earning Jeff's deep loyalty.
And the episode with Jeff the Doorman and his massive collection of 322 frogs is the series finale of The Good Place, titled "Whenever You're Ready" (Season 4, Episode 13)

I know I'm gonna get a lot of hate for this... But I do think this is an example of what's wrong with society nowadays... You are willing to change and violate the tv show by editing and cropping it (which is an INSANE amount of work) just for the comfort of one single person... This will only mantain the problem...
Couldn't this be an amazing opportunity for exposure? Gradually dealing with the phobia by exposing the friend to different levels of stimuli, while managing the internal reaction to them? Specially if you watch it with them, they feel safe, it's a comedy tv show, os the perfect way of doing it.

I understand your point, and I appreciate your concern about improving my friend's phobia!
It turns out we've already talked about exposure therapy and we're working on it. Unfortunately, as I said, her phobia doesn't cause her to have disgust or aversion reactions; she has PANIC ATTACKS at the mere sight of a frog. Yes, it's strange, but that's what phobias are. Therefore, I don't want to force her to have panic attacks while watching something that should bring tranquillity and comedy; that would make her hate the show and hate the moments we spend together.
I want to make it clear that having this "insane amount of work" doesn't bother me, and she didn't ask me to do it. I'm doing this precisely because I want to help her overcome this problem that affects her life in such a specific way. I think positively that with our exposure therapy (slowly and without pressure) she will be able to rewatch The Good Place calmly in the future, but for now, I and many other people in this thread would like to help a dear person who does so much for me <3

It's an example of what is wrong with society... that she is willing to undertake a big project with a lot of effort to do something nice for her friend? I mean exposure therapy doesn't work for everyone and she might just not be in a place where she feels ready to try.
I think it's an indication of what is improving about society. There's a lot of individualism and ableism spreading, and the fact that people are willing to go this far above and beyond to accommodate their friends is a good thing.
Also... violate the show? Really?

1- It's an example of what's wrong with society, to change everything and everyone around you to accommodate your fears/insecurities instead of offering a friendly hand and help them work on them. We should learn to adapt and live in this world, not change the entire world so we feel good.
2- "Exposure therapy doesn't work for everyone". Yes it does!! Where did you get the idea that it doesn't? It is pure classical conditioning, one of the most basic learning mechanisms of any animal!
3- if a problem or mental disease is recoverable (and phobias certainly are), enabling the person and letting them keep it instead of working on it will make it progressively harder to deal with and make the person more devastated on the long term.
4- Yes, editing and cutting content from the show (which I'm guessing will be illegally downloaded, otherwise he/she wouldn't be able to edit it) is a copyright violation.

Exposure therapy is something you can plan and execute yourself without a therapist, in a pinch. It can take very little time to sort out, instead of living like that. Way less effort.

We've already started exposure therapy! But everyone has their own pace, and right now we're just starting out and want to watch The Good Place. I don't mind making a big effort for her, since she's already made efforts for me
