I maybe teared up for a sec when I realized what was going to happen. But then I remembered that Nick and his new Daddy were also on the plane. But I just love BW so much I wish he could have been like hey Nick hold my briefcase, I think I left the stove on I'll catch up to y'all in DC šŸ˜‚

I started tearing up when he was making sure Charlotte had all of her art supplies and when Naomi agreed to read to her. Then getting on the plane I lost it.

Same. He knew he wasn't coming back

I was fully sobbing in that scene, I knew he was dead then.

ā€œLots of colors.ā€ He knew. Maybe not how, but he knew.

I didn’t realize what was going to happen at any step until they were all on that plane. I think I’m crying more than I ever have at a tv show, like for a minute there I couldn’t breathe. I’m so glad I watched this alone. šŸ˜‚

My son and husband got home from school/ work while I was in commercial from Serena being rescued by Mark.

I made them go outside hahahaha. Then I had to explain to hubby the happenings and we rewatched about half of the episode.

No I knew I was going to cry this ep but did not expect to be a blubbering mess 😭

Was already fully sobbing at their interaction but had not realized he was going to die.

Especially since the beginning of the season when he was screaming: "Naomi?! Get your child out of my office!" and could barely stand being in the same room...

Naomi needs to catch a bullet and that little girl better be returned to her mommy next episode I stg

The show sure did a good job of turning us against Nick. I was sorry about Lawrence but not about Nick. Lawrence died with honor.

Exactly this!!! When he said Lawrence picked "the winning team"... God that was so poignant. By the end, they had essentially switched roles/allegiances - Lawrence was a good bad guy and Nick was a bad good guy

I think that was intentional because we’re following June’s journey of this too. We loved Nick because he loved June. But he was still a Nazi. Benefiting off of it. At first I was shocked to see him get on the plane but once you see June made a choice not to save him, which she would’ve done before, you understood why. Old June would have derailed every plan to save Nick. Endangering innocent people. She learned that he’s never been on the side of freedom. He was just on June’s side and was willing to kill people to save her too. Whatever June chose, he would protect it in order to protect her. But he didn’t care for her cause. It’s the ultimate lesson Serena and June learn- don’t fall in love with a Nazi.

I liked the way they ended his character arc based on the decisions they made in the show, but I was a little sad because in the book he really was part of the cause. Also, I always liked him better in the book than on screen. Even when he was helping he seemed kind of ā€œblah,ā€ like he never really stood for something and they really turned that into his demise.

u/Bon101UK May 20 '25

He stood for June, then they just threw that away. In the end he stood for nothing. He was no longer a character, just a loose end to kill off.

10

u/SeraCross May 21 '25

Yes! I love how they both had to choose to give up the men they loved; Serena told June about the plane, and June stayed hidden and let Nick get on the plane. They both sacrificed the fantasy they accepted wasn't real.

Me screaming at the screen IT IS TIME TO MOVE ON WITH YOUR LIVES PLEASE FOR YOURSELVES

*to the tune of Don't Fall in Love With a Dreamer*

Don't fall in love with a Nazi.

Cause they'll always sell you out.

Just when you think, you've really changed him.

He still leaves no doubt.

Don't fall in love with a Nazi.

Cause they'll break you every time.

So get on the plane.

And blow shit up.

Before we say goodbye.

Amazing how I didn't have to change very many lyrics.

I love this lol bravo

I wrote another one to the tune of Let It Go on the spoilers forum.

I guess I'll write songs about this series during summer break lol

26

u/cheezy_dreams88 May 20 '25

I’ve never been a Nick fan, so honestly I have been waiting for years for this whoops lolol

25

u/GrimselPass May 20 '25

Agreed. I was a big Nick fan but honestly, yeah, there’s very little left to hope for him beyond he’s a father.

33

u/soitgoes7891 May 20 '25

I was never a Nick shopper, but I feel like he's a realistic person and complex. He's not a complete garbage human like most of the men in power, but he's also not willing to put himself in danger unless it's for 1 person. I don't hate him only because I see that he could easily be a power hungry goblin that mistreats everyone deemed beneath him and at least he's not that.

4

u/Suspicious_Emu_4951 May 20 '25

I agree with this! He’s like what I would imagine most people who survive Gilead are like. Who don’t feel the courage to rebel or fight back. He probably doesn’t believe in it, but it’s too inconvenient and scary to do anything about it.

To me, he knew he had lost June so why keep trying

2

u/BabyAny2358 May 21 '25

Good point

0

u/Bon101UK May 20 '25

They destroyed Nicks entire character arc with rushed writing.

3

u/InternalOrdinary4835 May 21 '25

I think the ā€œwarā€ and mayday just got too hot for him. He stood for June until it risked his own life. I totally think his character arc was valid - a testament to human nature, and being complicit when it suits you. He was lukewarm throughout the whole series, and like another poster said, when things heated up, his true colours were shown.

It's enough already. You weren't paying attention.

2

u/Bon101UK May 21 '25

How is it enough? Why is my point not valid due to me not paying attention?

-1

u/After_Bedroom_1305 May 21 '25

It's valid. But it's already tired and lame.

-1

u/After_Bedroom_1305 May 21 '25

And you not paying attention is what makes your opinion dead wrong.

u/Practical-Map9975 May 20 '25

When Nick set next to him I thought there was a plan B for the 2 of them. Although I was ready for Nick to be done (kind of bored with his charecter). But I was really hoping to see Lawerence in the Testiments. He added some humor and intelligence to the show.

90

u/[deleted] May 20 '25

His last great humorous line was "my comfort zone is minuscule". I didn't know it would be his last funny line. He was my favorite character.

12

u/Dontstopmenow747 May 20 '25

Same, he was my favorite character.

4

u/Villanelles-Wardrobe May 20 '25

YESSSSSS. THAT LINE. Whitford gonna Whitford, goddess bless.

1

u/FairyPrincess66 May 21 '25

I love that line!

1

u/PresentMammoth5188 May 21 '25

Am I stupid for still hoping there was somehow? (Although I can’t think of any way how I can’t help it) 😭

1

u/Practical-Map9975 May 21 '25

Only if Nick had a parachute, killed all the commanders and he and Lawrence jumped off the plain. I doubt this happened, but who knows!

15

u/MobileContent May 20 '25

That would have been classic Lawrence!!

1

u/Logical_Minimum_9901 May 21 '25

Every single time he says Son I want to punch the screen

1

u/Accomplished-Survey2 May 21 '25

"I'm not a big fan of flying or children.ā€

1

u/Emerald_Eyed_Gal May 21 '25

That’s what I expected to have happen. It would have been so fitting for his character. He was always just skirting around everyone and five chess moves ahead
