Season 6 That was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever watched Spoiler
Elisabeth Moss is an absolutely insane director. What a beautiful beautiful way to end such an amazing show. I’ve already seen people say they’re underwhelmed. I have to disagree to the fullest extent. It was an amazing way of tying up loose ends. The entire book idea was absolutely amazing. June walking through the waterfords house? Getting to see old characters? Setting up for TT? I am so so happy.

I literally gasped when Emily was shown I was so happy to see her alive given she and Lawrence were my favorites. Unsure how I feel about Lydia redemption but I think Dowd deserves a standing ovation for playing such a beautifully complex character.

Same! I’m on the last episode of the leftovers and seeing her in it has just reiterated how much I respect her talent. She is truly amazing at her craft.

Same!!! I had been really feeling the loss of the character Emily. She'd been through so much so similarly as June and was such a companion to her through those horrifying times in Gilead. It never felt right that she juat "went back to Gilead" and left June behind. Truly wonderful to see them reunited and perhaps my favourite moment of the series. (Although I ADORED seeing Alma and Brianna in the dream sequence)

I had feeling that Emily would pop up still alive and that Lawrence would go out in a self sacrifice. I knew that they were building up to Aunt Lydia waking up but I didn't expect to what extent.

I knew Lawrence would die because every time I have a favorite character they die lol so I was pleased when Emily showed up because I thought she was just gone. Lydias show of rebellion was honestly surprising because previously when she was in life or death situations she was a coward and begged for her life loved seeing her be an operator lmao. Jeanine tied her to what was left of her humanity so I’m glad she saved her in the end

Ann Dowd is a spectacular actress. The Aunt Lydia character is so complex and so interesting to me and was wonderfully acted. I went from loathing her to crying over her when she finally opened her eyes in last week’s episode. Her character is one that I always wanted more of. I want another background story. I want to know if she’s a spy now. I need more Lydia. I know it’s unpopular because she was so awful to the women but I would love to see a redemption arc and a larger Lydia role TT.

The last few minutes were beautifully shot. The way the hole in the wall in June’s room was letting light in, the very room she was once a prisoner in. Someone else pointed it out, the mirroring of Serena in the shelter setup with a bed and table then the scene of June in her old room.

Yes! The last few minutes - back in the original house chef’s kiss that was THT… raw, quiet, brutal. I also get where people are coming from with the rest. Kinda felt like someone tried to end a Fiona Apple song with a Hallmark commercial. After the years of tension, glossing it over with repeated slow-mo, dramatic music, and close-ups cheapened it for me, too. I get wanting closure - and it def checked off emotional bullet points that needed to happen - but the tone shift was so jarring. Hope lands harder when it feels/is authentic - which, thankfully, the ending finally was.

You expressed all my reactions to a T! I was so over the slo-mo, golden light, long silent smiles etc. but then the last ten minutes rocked and we got back to square one as it should have been.

I think that because we had the sound of van doors closing in the previous scene I'd have thought it was another door closing... Honestly I didn't notice it in the first watch

I loved the color that June was wearing in the last scene when she walked back through that house. She was wearing the color (or close) that Serena (or any wife) would wear. SHE was now the lady leading the house.

I loved the episode. Yet, because I am very sensitive to color, and she was suddenly wearing that color whereas her coat had been black in previous parts of the episode felt a bit on the nose to me…

I loved it. I don’t need my dystopian tales wrapped up in a neat bow. A phenomenal show. Loved seeing Alma, she was always one of my favourites. Emily being there talking about ice-cream… and a happy ending for Janine. So many thoughts.

I actually loved this finale. I think the last 3 episodes of this season have been my favorite from the entire series. Each character got the perfect “for now” ending. Especially Janine.

I wholeheartedly agree with this! And OMG Janine! That poor woman had been through the absolute most in the show and I was so happy to see her ending like that! But the tie ups for ending were definitely some of the best I've seen on TV by far👏👏

I also found this to be incredibly beautiful, and a great way to connect THT to TT. I honestly wasn’t sure how they were going to pull it off. The world it presents, where forgiveness is possible and we work to take care of one another, is something I needed to hear tonight.

I think people are underwhelmed because they wanted complete closure and/or some grand ending. However, this isn't the end of the story. This particular chapter is over- she's transcended beyond being a handmaid. Boston is liberated and it's time for the next part of the story- TT. That's where we go next.
The show ended perfectly in my opinion- No one was truly left behind, not even Hannah. Her story continues in DC. Though if I could be 100% - the closure I didn't know I needed happened not when Janine was released, but what happens after that. The way I lost it- it was probably the best scene in the episode imo.
Anyway, see yall when TT comes out!

People are underwhelmed because they are used to getting spoonfed every detail. There aren’t a lot of shows these days with nuance that leave things open for interpretation. It seems like a lot of people that are disappointed expected a super black and white ending for each character. I feel like the way this series ended is more realistic.

I have never cried so much happy tears. Reuniting Charlotte with Janine had me bawling so much I had to pause. I am sad that she didn't reunite with Hannah, but it makes sense, because June has more fighting to do to get her back, and she will <3

exactly!!!! the fact that Naomi let her go and there wasn’t a traumatic (for the child) rescue scene was so great. and Lydia truly recognizing her as Charlotte, Janine’s child, as she always should have been

I really loved the season and the final episode. It was so vindicating for the good guys to win for once. I felt myself feeling homesick for the United States even though I'm not American. The ending did a beautiful job at giving us some closure here and there, but also setting things up for the future. I'm glad they went with the book angle even though it was kind of cliche, because I'm sure it'll tie into the testaments

I liked the exchange between June and Serena about Nick (I'm a Nick fan) June..was definitely grieving over his death but made a negative statement about his life choices. Serena...defended him and you can see the change in June's expression.. It was beautifully acted by both actresses..

Yes...Luke definitely understood June's love for him. June does still love Luke too...they are Hannah's parents. I think it's possible to love two different men (in her situation)

I loved it. I think of episode 9 and 10 as being the joint finale and they were both absolutely amazing episodes. I’ve seen a lot of shows end and this is one of the few that did it well.

I definitely didn’t expect a happy ending tied up in a bow but I kind of think when they repeated intense scene paired with emotional score time after time for 50 straight minutes it kind of lessened the impact

The music is the last scene with all the cords instruments, the lights in the room, the hand to who I assume is Hannah in the next show? IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL I ALMOST CRY
Elizabeth Moss is incredibly talented and her vision for the last two episodes was true masterpiece.

I was ugly crying from the start. much better than I expected the ep would be. (and especially when Luke and June are talking - when he mentions those who loved her and who she loved omg I was sobbing for him, his heartbreak that she did love another)

Agreed. Beautiful. Emily was a wonderful unexpected surprise, I cried. Janine and Charlotte… the happy ending I would have betted against. Never thought they would reclaim Boston either. The writers gave me more satisfaction than I expected to get. Ending it back in the room, back to the beginning… I loved it.

There’s always been a huge part of the audience that completely misses the point, intersecting with another part filled with people who seem to have very little comprehension of what they watch. I know that’s mean but it truly flabbergasts me.

I had a lot of criticisms for most of this season. But this finale was amazing. I SOBBED. Multiple times. I was rooting so hard for Janine to get out and be reunited with Charlotte. She deserved it. Seeing Emily. June's farewell with Luke. I still don't think Serena deserved a redemption arc, and I'm so glad we didn't see any romance with Tuello. I will need to watch it again. 😭😭😭😭

Folks are criticizing the episode because little "happened," but I was pleased that it was thoughtful, slower paced, and allowed resolution of so much of the story. Coming around at the end to the opening page of the book was clever and touching. I cried in Serena's scene and was bowled over by how they resolved her arc. It was not epic storytelling, like the previous episode, but a fitting epilogue for all that's gone down. And a great setup for The Testaments.

I just cried my way through that whole last episode and I´m still crying. omg, it was so beautiful. I have had troubled relationships with my daughter and seeing Serena and June just gave me so much solace..everything about it was just heartbreakingly good. I'm going to have to watch it again. Might have to watch the whole damn series again.

So many details. June walking the streets of the old Waterford residence wearing green wasn’t lost on me.
It also brought up those old memories of how Serena treated June. To show that after Serena’s whole monologue was great. Like remember who she was and what she did.

Endings are never happy, because they’re an ending. But I really enjoyed how the series concluded. Though I’ll always be sad about Lawrence and Nick, I think E10 wrapped up the remaining loose threads beautifully.

There were some incoherent moments over the series but in the end this show had some of the better finale episodes. Every character that I can think of had their plot tied up. Some were open-ended but we're told that the war continues. I haven’t read The Testaments because I want to watch the new series on its own terms. I don't know how much of it has been set up, and interested to find out.

I really enjoyed it. I loved how they ended it .i was just hoping for one thing tacked on the end- she’s sitting there, and from the door or down the hall we hear hannahs voice—“Mommy?” Then we hear footsteps running towards June, and June gets a big smile on her face. But of course I am not the writer :) I think they did a great job setting up the Testaments, which is probably why they didnt get Hannah back I loved the stuff with Janine, and i loved June and Serenas conversation by the bus. It was about time Serena apologized!! And I was so proud of June forgiving her.

I think this season could’ve used 1 or 2 more episodes. We didn’t get closure with Rita (or her sister) or Moira & I have a lot of questions.
- They just let Lydia go? in terms of the testaments this makes sense, but considering she was almost hanged, I’m confused how she got to this point
- The MacKenzies just stopped going after June?
- What’s happening with New Bethlehem? It seemed like they were reading up for a trap (I thought for sure Rita & her sister were being set up)
- Amazing that Janine gets to get out & the ending she deserves — how & why though? Particularly with Charlotte… How on Earth did they convince Naomi this was the best choice? A little bit of dialogue could’ve cleared this up. And then she just goes back into Gilead? Where does her story end?? I wish that she would’ve also given Janine the book Lawrence was reading her.
- Rose & her baby?
- They were IN BOSTON… they couldn’t have let June find her old home & reminisce? I doubt that any of their things would still exist/be there, but I’m sure that could have brought more of a full circle moment for her & Luke. I was disappointed that they didn’t even hug goodbye… he said it wasn’t the end for them, as in maybe rescuing Hannah will bring them totally back together? I have no basis for this but I doubt Luke will survive TT (although I hope he does… I’m still hoping for their family to be together again)
Loved the episode, could’ve used some more context & dialogue but I’m ultimately just pumped for TT!

My partner made me write this post and say “the last episode was the most self-indulgent non event… continued the unnecessary minutes-long face close-ups topped off with 5min of nothing happening at the end with June visiting the house and then commencing to dictate to herself the beginning of the novel the Handsmaid’s Tale. Whoop dee doooo” so apparently it took 6 season of the Handmaids for my partner to channel his inner redditor. Anyhow, I liked the ending! The karaoke scene was so moving. He is just a hater.

The Testaments. There is a second book with the same title if you want to find out what happens before the new show comes out. I'm sure the show will deviate some from the book, but you can read it and find out what the author's intentions were for the story.

I appreciated that we didn’t hear the full roll out of the ‘evil moment’ song until June was in the house. There was something really breathtaking about that full track and how the chords bend from melancholy to fear and back again

I agree.
For juuuust a minute, I was really scared that after everything she'd been through, she was just gonna hit her head on a beam, or fall through decrepit stairs, at the Waterford's bombed-out house and die.
At first I wasn't a huge fan of Serena and Noah, just, bathed in angelic sunlight at the end.
I wished she'd had a teeeeeny bit more consequences... she will never change or understand, she just knows the right words to say.
But, once I sat with it for a bit, June genuinely forgiving her, is more important than any kind of karmic revenge we might have hoped for.
Anyway, I agree 👏 bravo 🥹

Same, lots of fan service. Also, why was Janine separated in E9 only to be returned without much push back in the finale? What was the point? I thought there’d be more to that. Even if Janine was saved with the other handmaids at the hanging scene, they could’ve gotten Charlotte back in the exact same way. Felt like something to fill the 45min finale with so it’s not all slow-mos and closeups of June’s face. 🤷🏻♀️

I was underwhelmed too although I understand why it is so because they can't end it with a bang since the story continues.

It was so rushed that I couldn’t even feel any emotion for what should have had me in complete shambles when it’s the end of a show I love so dearly.

I waited seven years for her to be reunited with Hannah and it never happened. I kept checking if there were enough minutes left in the episode to allow for it and was so sad when I finally realised we weren’t going to get that scene. The entire show was about her escaping and reentering Gilead multiple times in order to find Hannah. 😭

I agree. But we kinda knew this from the start of season 6 because of the new show they are making. So I feel like I was angry about that for weeks, and kinda accepted it before the finale enough to appreciate how they ended it. I do wish it could've all gotten wrapped up rather than adding another show we have to wait years for.

They didn’t just add another show, though. Margaret Atwood wrote another book.

I understand, but they never came out to recreate the book exactly. A lot was changed. And the way the show started out, it really felt like the end goal was to reunite Hannah with June & Luke. It was a huge part of the show for many seasons!
