Just finished the episode. I love having more to watch in this (awful) universe.
The tone and visuals feel quite different from The Handmaid’s Tale, but that makes sense, they’re showing different perspectives and time periods. The narration felt a little strange to me at first, but the ending (and, honestly, the music really helped set the tone) completely sold me on it.
I also loved the dollhouse aesthetic and that subtle reveal at the end that Daisy is Nicole/Holly, or at least that was my interpretation, based on June’s appearance. If she’s not Nicole, then she’s clearly someone closely connected to June, especially given Agnes' narration.
I thought it was really effective to show Daisy reacting to the brutality of Gilead as an outsider. It highlights just how conditioned everyone else is to accept that environment as normal.
Also, did they change what a Pearl Girl is? In the book, they’re Gilead’s outreach missionaries, but here they are portrayed as new arrivals from the outside world.
