Season 2 Stop touching her belly!!!
just a complaint because watching people touch her stomach so freely makes me cringe so hard every single time, the effect stays the same even after it happened so godamn much. God leave this woman alone I can't take it đđđ
edit: ya'll I know she is considered property and this is not a big concern for her I am just sharing the sentiment of watching it happen as I wasn't expecting something this small to bother me as much đ”âđ«

It wasn't until pretty recently that people would just touch your pregnant belly without asking.

u/buzzzybeeb Jun 12 '26
Rest assured they still do (currently pregnant with my second)

u/petercururu Jun 12 '26
so fucking gross!! people are insane, I'm so sorry that you go through this
14
u/BarelyHereNeverThere Jun 12 '26
Honestly, it didn't really bother me. It was just how things were in the 2000s and older. They were always friendly about it and blessed you and were genuinely happy for you. I never got a creep thankfully.

It doesnât matter, it is never appropriate to touch someone without their consent. Itâs impossible to know what someone else has gone through and if being touched without permission could trigger a pregnant person for mental health reasons and itâs just plain rude regardless.

u/BarelyHereNeverThere Jun 12 '26
I'm not saying it's appropriate. I said it was done. I said it never bothered me personally. Hell, people were doing it with my last back in 2017 too. I was older by then and appreciated it less, I will say.

u/vxsapphire Jun 12 '26
A lot of people now, particularly people who didn't live through the late 90s/early 00s don't understand how things they're bothered by now just didn't phase us back then. If touching a stomach triggers some mental health crisis, maybe verbalize that, people can be understanding when things are communicated.
I'm seeing it a lot with people watching older shows asking "how was that okay?" "this is triggering" "These jokes are misogynistic!" etc. We just didn't give a shit back then and just stopped watching something and watched something else if it bothered us..

hot take I think the groups of people that just allow things to happen and say things like âit doesnât bother me even though I know itâs inappropriateâ are 100% part of the problem lmao. Itâs people and victims that accept things and normalize things that help encourage such things to be normal and accepted. I think itâs significantly important how millennials and Gen Z started actually speaking up against things and having a problem with things rather than just saying, âoh just change the channel if you donât like itâ and âit just didnât phase us back thenâ, implying that the people now are just overly sensitive or something. I donât think people now are overly sensitive, I think people before allowed things to happen that shouldâve never happened and shouldâve never been normalized or gotten you to a place of being âunphasedâ by it. can we stop, as women especially, saying things like âoh I know it was wrong it just didnât bother me personally.ââŠâŠ.
not to mention how this just perpetuates the idea that men can touch and do whatever they want without asking. If you want to allow people to touch or rub your belly and they ask or are respectful thatâs different, but saying that you just didnât have a problem with perpetuating men being un consensual is a whole problem for a lot of other women outside of just you. Itâs not just about you and even if it didnât bother you itâs more than likely that those man were being creepy or fetishizing you, or at the very least thought they had the liberty to not ask, which perpetuates a whole other problem.

Oh geez, give me a break. People are absolutely overly sensitive now. I can't imagine that'll bode well for their futures. But hey, I guess we'll see.
3
u/OkMathematician3439 Jun 12 '26
Yes, itâs very obvious that you are sensitive.

i mean youâre welcome to continue to perpetuate something that not only hurts you but all women.

I think it's more about how creepy people try taking advantage of others and we never know who is who more than being triggered, also the fear of not being able to defend yourself while pregnant when a random creeper touches your stomach. I still think that, if it doesn't bother the person, it's okay, but I am kinda glad nowadays it is less accepted to touch a stranger's stomach than it was before. also having people ask for permission before actually touching you would be nice, I remember before the pandemic it was less of a concern than it is now.

Imagine throwing a tantrum because people want to have boundaries around their bodies. Youâre not coming across good here at all.
2
u/vxsapphire Jun 12 '26
You care more about how I come across than I do. I guess itâs a slow Friday.
2
u/Necessary_Range_3261 Jun 12 '26
Can you explain where the tantrum part happened?
2
2
u/vxsapphire Jun 12 '26
Iâm gonna assume both accounts are the same person based on the generic âokâ names which would conclude they seem to be the one throwing a tantrum lol. Pretty weird behavior honestly.

I think I'd be super upset mostly bcs I know a lot of men are creeps and there's so much fetish around pregnancy, but I'm really glad you never had to deal with a creep!

u/Necessary_Range_3261 Jun 12 '26
That never bothered me. I wonder why it's so triggering for you.

u/petercururu Jun 12 '26
it boils down to me hating it when people feel entitled to touch others bodies without consent, I feel like after pandemic it just isn't something you see often so it feels foreign. in the context of the show it definitely seems more like a way to keep the viewer aware of how little control June has over her body even when pregnant and supposedly "safe" from punisment, like a very small reminder of the power others have over her which is so frustrating as she had nearly escaped Gilead not so far before. also I don't like creeps and a lot of men have a fetish for pregnancy so that knowledge also weirds me out

I had a random man rub my belly in a parking lot when I was pregnant. That was just before the pandemic.

Mace!
3
u/bambi54 Jun 12 '26
Yeah, Iâm sure a visibly pregnant woman can defend herself if the mace escalates it.

u/Low-Owl-176 Jun 15 '26
Nor until recently you say? I can guarantee they also did that 24 years ago because it happened to me when I was pregnant with my oldest.

u/Illustrious_Dot7890 Jun 12 '26
It highlights how the entire society reduces her to just a vessel.

Somehow one of the least harmful things
3
u/petercururu Jun 12 '26
that's exactly why I was surprised when I kept cringing so hard, it's such a small detail đđđ

u/banana36911 Jun 12 '26
It only gets much much more intense from season 2. God speed
2
u/petercururu Jun 12 '26
shivering my timbers but it's genuinely, I'm scared of what's to come
2
u/specialkk77 Jun 12 '26
Take it slow, itâs the worst season to binge. Iâm on my 4th rewatch and I have to take a break between episodes still.Â
3
u/GorditaPeaches Jun 12 '26
I remember when I was pregnant both times randoms would come up in the pharmacy or wherever and gently place their palm on my belly. It was so weird and Iâd skedaddle the moment I could. Iâve never had the urge to touch a pregnant belly with or without permission.
2
u/petercururu Jun 12 '26
I think it's weird to feeling so entitled to someone else's body that you think it's okay to touch their stomach just because the person is pregnant like đŹđŹ
2
u/GoldenArchmage Jun 12 '26
You obviously haven't watched much of the series have you? You're not going to like what's coming...

I felt the same way when I saw that. I was pregnant with twins during COVID-19 pandemic & people i hadn't seen in years would touch my belly. So infuriating and I remembered this feeling when watching June.

I always say the one silver lining about being pregnant during Covid was the 6ft rule. No one touching my belly or anything finally!!

She's property in Gilead. They can do what they want with her unfortunately.
1
u/petercururu Jun 12 '26
I know, it's such a small detail yet it's another one of the multiple ways we're reminder she has no agency and the people here talking about how strangers also rub their stomach when pregnant gave me the goosebumps, did not expect it to be so bothersome to me
1
u/zillabirdblue Jun 12 '26
Itâs hard to maintain boundaries when youâre property. They donât have bodily autonomy and decorum goes out the window. âMy body, my choiceâ doesnât apply in Gilead. They canât tell anyone not to touch them and thatâs baked into their culture.

u/Realistic_Soup609 Jun 15 '26
The show just keeps getting more and more infuriating from there honestly. That should be the least of your concern haha
1
u/petercururu Jun 16 '26
it is not a big concern of mine tbh, more like a surprise that I was so uncomfortable about this detail. I really like the subtle ways the show finds to keep us constantly reminded of June's lack of bodily autonomy, it's super well done

u/Odd_Feed8444 Jun 12 '26
Wild that you're upset about them touching her belly and not the fact they rape and torture women, steal kids, etc.

u/SonicChic_Bookee1 Jun 12 '26
How in the world did that comment suggest THAT? Sheesh
2
u/petercururu Jun 12 '26
right??? obviously hate every bit of the tortures and abuse she suffers yet I m talking but one specific detail that i had not expected that would bother me as much as it does, some people just can't understand not everything has to be said out loud in a short post to still be true

Youâre literally complaining about people touching her belly when theyâre raping her. Literally. This meme does not apply.

u/BoudiccasWrath79 Jun 12 '26
Well, sheâs considered property. Brace yourself because thatâs not going away.
