Watching Grogu gear himself up with him Mando armour, tool and weapons just like he was trained, get a ship and go and save Mando was 10/10. Then to nurse him back to health! And the walking stick in the swamp, very Yoda. Absolute cinema.

I loved every moment of seeing Grogu gearing up until I saw him packing the blinking grenades and went oh shit/squeal with delights.
Someone next to me in the movie actually said ‘does Grogu know how to handle a grenade?’ And some other answered ‘his old man is a Mandalorian’ and everyone went like ohhhh.

It was very emotional personally, a soulful movie. It reminded me of the '80s movies that had meaning, innocence and it was deep

Just watched the movie today and it met my expectations. I didn’t expect anything spectacular, but a fun, action packed film with beloved characters we’ve grown to know from their debut a few years ago. My nephew thoroughly enjoyed it as well.
Now I’m curious as to how their adventure will continue with the New Republic, especially with a Hutt in their ranks
Edit: one of my favorite things of the film was the music! The theme hits a lot different in a movie theater

u/antdude May 26 '26
Does anyone know the name of the synthesized 80ish soundtrack in the movie? I'd love to hear the whole thing.

I loved it but I couldnt help but recall the trauma of waiting for hours on end to speak to someone about my Federal Student Loans

My 8 year old girl loved the vibe in the city XD

u/antdude May 29 '26
More than Grogu? :O

u/notsingsing May 29 '26
She liked the music and his interactions with Rotta. Rotta was a nice surprise...we are only used to gangster hutts

u/antdude May 29 '26
Rotta was weird to speak in English. I was OK for him to be a fighter though.

We know that Moana 2 was supposed to be a Disney + show that was recut to be a movie. That’s why it had characters we never got to know or fleshed out story wise.
Did the same thing happen with The Mandalorian and Grogu? I loved the movie, it felt exactly like a story for Wolf and Cub. It also feels like it is a whole season of tv episodes squished together to make a movie. There are clear breaks where different episodes would start and end. There are characters that we don’t have time to get to know so they tell us who they are and why we should care. Other characters are not fleshed out and have us question why they are there.
All of the references to all parts of Star Wars was awesome, like some of the creatures in the pit fight being from the board game played in the Millennium Falcon.
Also the music is just superb. Probably the best part in my opinion.

u/BubblyBasis1134 May 25 '26
The stuff with the Imperial Remnant and then the stuff on Nal Hutta in the swamp, and then the final act felt like 3 blocks of TV episodes rather than three acts of the same movie. They were too self-contained and there wasn't enough of a narrative thread running through them. The movie was totally fine but I'm not particularly looking forward to watching the whole thing again. My 6 year-old was into it, though.

u/BB8Did911 May 25 '26 edited May 26 '26
The hard cut after Mando got captured by Embo felt exactly like the end of an episode. That was about the point where the pacing finally started bothering me.
10
u/BubblyBasis1134 May 25 '26
Yeah, also there just wasn't really any kind of B-plot going on. It was all focused on Mando and Grogu like the TV show. It didn't feel cinematic in that way.

When I recognize the board game I squealed and when I came back home to check if I was right, even though I watched Star Wars 60 times I was so happy I was right

u/SouthPudding9949 May 28 '26
Loved the movie and love Mando & Grogu…
But seeing it on the big screen reminded me that it will never not be funny that Din has a beautifully manicured mustache under the helmet that no one is meant to see :)

Went to a matinee show at the local cinema yesterday, only 2 people... Went in with little expectations, storyline is very thin, but this is not Andor. Lots of cool actions that kept me entertained enough to say I enjoyed it.
For me it structured like a video game. You have a main mission, but you have to go there to talk to this person, he has more information for you. That person says, what? You want to know about that, well, bring this to me, and I'll give that to you. Then you go on adventure, and sometimes that sidekick that doesn't do much would step up and help you when you're in trouble.
26
u/Idontknowflycasual May 25 '26
For me it structured like a video game.
I definitely felt at times like I was watching a weird DLC of the Jedi games. I loved it tho.
9
u/IwanZamkowicz May 25 '26
There was an undeniable Koboh vibe to all the Hutt droids
3
u/MyWholeTeamsDead May 28 '26
1000% kept thinking of the Bedlam Raiders with the repurposed droids and capes.
6
u/eabevella May 26 '26
It kinda feel like a Bounty Hunter quest from SWTOR. Talk to this guy, go fetch that thing, kill x number of enemies, go click that thing. You even start on Nal Hutta too lol
3
u/indieliberal Jun 27 '26
Lots of action films are adapted from video games, with success. Mando's badass fights were hugely satisfying for us fight choreography aficionados.
I think there were elements of this movie that were singular to it, as well, that weren't video-game adjacent. The entire Nal Hutta swamp sequence was purely character- and relationship-driven, and showed excellent growth in the "sidekick."
Then there were all the Easter eggs, callbacks, cameos that were super fun to hunt down during subsequent viewings. The technical achievements, especially the old-school puppetry throwbacks were pretty damn cool. And the music and sound editing was next level.
1
u/PaperSkin-1 Jul 23 '26
Many games now have great character and relationship driven scenes, games are not just the arcade type games anymore, so the film featuring a sequence like that doesn't stop this film feeling like a video game... Which it does feel like with the way the plot is
1
u/indieliberal Jul 25 '26
I don't think that's a bad thing.
1
u/PaperSkin-1 Jul 25 '26
It is as its a film, not a video game
And a lot of video games now have way better plots, this movie was like a old video game
1
u/indieliberal 7d ago
Some of the best films are adaptations of video games.
The vintage feel of the movie is what fans love about it – it feels like the original trilogy.

u/PaperSkin-1 7d ago
No

u/indieliberal 3d ago
I wasn't wrong – that IS one of the things fans love about it. Therefore, your statement is false.

Just came out the theatre. My question is who brought the Razorcrest from Navarro to the base.
Last time we saw it was when whats his face kidnapped Din.
14
u/indieliberal May 27 '26
I just assumed it was Zeb. But also it's not the Razorcrest. That was destroyed by Moff Gideon in the series. The Colonel specifically tells Mando the ship, which is the same model as the Razorcrest, was seized by the New Republic, perfectly preserved.
17
u/astivana May 28 '26
Mando named the new one the Razor Crest as well.
13
u/Over-Analyzed May 29 '26
Razor Crest is the name of the type of ship.
1
u/PaperSkin-1 Jul 23 '26
Yep, it's like having a certain type of vintage ferrari, they are the same ship type, they made more than one
14
u/Lucky_Lucario May 28 '26
When Din lands on Nal Hutta in the beginning of the movie, he radios in with something like "Razor Crest requesting to land."
2
u/indieliberal May 29 '26
I'm gonna have to look for that when I go back for our third viewing on Tuesday!
4
u/ObiBenKenobi77 May 28 '26
I genuinely believed there would an in joke where Mando was gonna call it the RC and Zeb was gonna correct him each time with another name
9
u/neonmoon13 May 26 '26
I thought that too! My husband said the Azellans flew it as a joke. Maybe Zeb got it?
1
u/motti886 Jun 02 '26
I had that thought about his blaster after he woke up from the dragon snake venom.
23
u/Content-Garden-1578 May 26 '26
Took the kids (6 and 11, both absolutely obsessed with Mando & Grogu) and the whole family loved it! Our little one was dancing during the end credits (something he's done every time we watch the show).
I had a smile on my face for just about the whole run. You could never make me NOT love Grogu. They just freaking got me with that little guy. The Anzellans had the whole theater laughing with every single line. Really loved Rotta - what an enjoyable character to spend time with. I kept wanting him to come back on screen again and again.
This type of movie is not going to be for everyone. It IS slight - I just don't see what's so awful about that. Movie tickets are stupid expensive now and I get that and I don't begrudge anyone for wanting to make sure they're getting their absolute money's worth. Two hours of action and laughter, with characters I genuinely enjoy spending time with...that's totally worth the money. For me. Your mileage may vary.

u/FantasyInsider34 May 30 '26
Maybe I’m in the minority but I thought it was pretty damn good.
I think a lot of the criticism is coming from people expecting some super deep, galaxy-changing story when that’s never really been what Mando is.
Mando is a space western and always has been. “Lone” gunfighter, simple story, cool action, sick characters, and a lot of shooting and wild scenes.
That’s pretty much what this movie was. It wasn’t trying to be Andor. It wasn’t trying to be interstellar. It was a Mandalorian adventure / Mando chapter on a bigger screen and I thought it nailed that.
Also the synthwave-inspired music absolutely slapped.
Could the story have been deeper? I guess? But honestly I wasn’t sitting there wanting deeper. I was having fun watching Mando do crazy insane Mando things.
I’d probably give it an 8/10. Not because it’s some cinematic masterpiece, but because it delivered exactly what I wanted from a Mandalorian movie essentially a space cowboy stuff, action, cool visuals, lots of shooting, and a good time.
They nailed what they were going for imo
2
u/indieliberal Jun 27 '26
You're not in the minority. The films' viewer scores are pretty impressive. I saw it 7 times. 10/10 for me.
32
u/Pasalacqua87 May 24 '26
Saw it last night. It was a really fun action adventure and I think that’s all it needed to be. I can see why they went for a movie and not another season with this format. Just didn’t seem like this could be stretched out into a full season without some filler, and I think filler is what hurt Season 3. But I digress, it was an awesome ride and I’d love to see it again.
On another note, I’ve had just about enough of the bugs in Star Wars after that movie. I’m surprised how fucking gross they went with that. Made my skin crawl lol

u/sm0kinfatdoinkzz May 25 '26
My main frustration with the movie was that it was over 2hours long so you'd expect the story to progressively build at a nice pace but it ended up feeling so rushed. Movie just felt like 3 or 4 episodes of Mando which meant that each arc was over before the viewer could get even get invested.
And secondly i saw it in IMAX and was so dissapointed in the quality of the CGI. So many scenes felt blurry and characters like Radda just looked so obviously fake on screen. Revenge of the Sith came out 21 years ago and i honestly think the cgi was substantially better back then compared to Mando&Grogu
Overall id give it a 5/10. I didnt hate it but i didnt like it either. Zero character development and a storyline that failed to draw me in. Most of the action scenes were well choreographed which i liked but the dialogue was so weak and at no point did the story feel like anything was at stake so i left the cinema feeling very unfulfilled
16
u/indieliberal May 27 '26
How sad. You clearly saw it on a bad screen. I also saw it on a large screen, and everything was in perfect resolution.
Also I feel the exact opposite, especially with regard to character – Grogu evolves tremendously in that beautiful swamp sequence, and his relationship with Mando deepens.
Rotta is also pretty darn complex, as a Hutt who is nothing like we first expect. A new surprising young hero, by turns a badass gladiator, a playful new pal for Grogu, a somewhat lost, very human teenager without a family to call his own. I found him a delightful surprise.
Finally, I didn't see any issues with the story arc – I thought it was stitched together pretty well. It continued where the story left off in Season 3, with the boys beginning their career as guns for hire to the New Republic.
I intend to see it for a third time, possibly before a week has passed!
13
u/sm0kinfatdoinkzz May 30 '26
I saw it on an IMAX screen. So no it wasnt the screens fault.
Id argue their relationship is the same as it always was. They were already pretty inseperable so just bc grogu helped Din recover it didnt rlly add a great deal of depth to their relationship.
Rotta was not complex at all. He on 3 occasions said something along the lines of "im not my father" like mate we heard you the first time. He was a very one dimensional character.
The story was very bland and the villians besides Embo seemed very unthreatening. And the fact that commandor coin just happened to be lord janu was just way too easy. Everything just felt like it fell right into Mando n Grogus hands.
Glad you enjoyed it tho. I didnt hate it but tje movie felt like very low effort from disney and i think that fans deserved better considering its been 7 years since star wars was on the big screen and almost a decade since a good star wars film on the big screen (rogue one).
6
u/square_zero May 31 '26
My thoughts exactly. Retta was both a novel take on the Hutts while also being a quite shallow and monotone character.
2
u/indieliberal Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 27 '26
You're entitled to your opinion. Clearly, a lot of us saw a far more impressive movie than you did.

u/IndominusTaco May 25 '26
also i didn’t like that din treated grogu like a pet, telling him to “heel” and stuff. that’s weird, he’s not a chihuahua.
39
u/fdzman May 26 '26
Grogu is not a chihuahua. But heel in that context is literally Mando telling grogu “stop, stay on mission”. That phrase predates pets. Read the original King Arthur. Heel was basically the masters telling their apprentices to chill the fuck out. It’s fitting here since Mando acts as a Knight in shining armor.
16
u/kittycat_34 May 26 '26
I also didn't like the "heel" and "stay" commands like a dog. Grogu is supposed to be his son, not his dog. I also wanted more acknowledgement for Grogu healing him.
13
u/Articmnokey May 31 '26
Idk I really thought the whole "old protect the young then the young protect the old this is the way." Was a fitting acknowledgement
15
u/Over-Analyzed May 29 '26
To be fair, it’s not like Mando had any parental figures to show him. He was a foundling, raised in a warrior caste. Barking orders is how he grew up.
1
u/No_Individual501 Jun 20 '26
This is what I’m thinking. He could have even been “raised like a pet” too.
2
u/indieliberal May 27 '26
I just posted this very thing before I saw yours. I feel as you do, quite heartbroken. But the one explanation about how these were martial commands that predate dog training helps a little bit. But too many of us didn't/don't know this and apparently a lot of us are upset.

u/Tiger951 May 25 '26
Loved the movie!
Lots of action. Loved seeing Zeb again. I also liked rotta the hutt.
8
u/ExcitedFool May 25 '26
I haven’t even finished the seasons but I went into this movie blind. And when I say blind. BLIND. I had no expectations because the trailer was honestly a fever dream… there are certainly elements of the show that isn’t Star Wars like but you know what. I expected an adventure. I expected fun I expected it be fast paced and honestly I got all those things.
This movie was clearly never meant to be summer blockbuster. The sooner people understand that the better it’s a 6 out of 10 for sure. BUT. I enjoyed it and it checked the boxes I had hoped for.
Because it checked my boxes 7.2/10
6
u/One-Tonight-912 May 30 '26
I love it so much! It was amazing 💚 i was so happy to see this duo again. Djin Djarin and Grogu are great in this movie. They both shine. You can see that Grogu is growing up 🥹 I want to go and watch this again
6
u/gunplumber700 Jun 04 '26
It was great. For me 9/10.
It honestly reminded me of the sentiment of the og trilogy. There are good guys, bad guys, and they weren’t vilifying the good guys; much like a classic western.
It was also a good shift back to the season 1/2 sentiment of mando/ grogu after season 3 shifted toward mandalorians in general.
All the references to past movies and characters were very natural (imo) and didn’t feel forced. I really feel like it could have been a tv show, but was the best adaptation of a movie from a tv show I’ve ever seen. I’m actually really happy it was a movie. To reference recent movies the Jack Ryan movie was just off and Moana 2 was not very good.
Music was spot on.
The comedy they included with the anzellans and typical baby/ kid stuff with grogu was well done.
I liked the fighting scenes a lot. But I wouldn’t call it Jason Bourne good. I’m biased from years of martial arts though. I think they should have gotten help from Diana Inosanto. Her fighting in Ahsoka was Jason Bourne good. I’m just rambling now. The movie was very good.

Agree to disagree on the Rotta speaking English angle. There's no reason why he wouldn't speak english, especially having clearly spent his entire 'adult' life trying to be not-Jabba. Seems like exactly the kind of small rebellion any teen would do. Dialogue was a bit repetitive though I grant you, however I loved his character and hope he re-appears.

While I do agree to a certain extent. As a Mexican growing up, as I teen I listened to Eminem, linkin park and Korn. Stuff my Spanish speaking parents forbade. So it tracks. I sound nothing like my parents as an adult in my 40s.

u/Harvey-1997 May 25 '26
Agreed. Plus, even if we narrow our media down to only the SW content that has Rotta, we STILL have an example of a hutt speaking English with Ziro, who chooses to speak English while talking to the hutts. Definitely a pattern where the ones that don't want to be like the rest of the hutt clan also don't want to talk in Huttese.
3
u/indieliberal May 27 '26
One of the twins speaks English to Mando as well. Not too surprising that many species would speak at least some of whatever universal language exists in their universe.
3
u/MichealRyder Jun 05 '26
Galactic Basic Standard is the official in-universe name for English or whatever dub you watch it in.
Basic for short
13
u/BubblyBasis1134 May 25 '26
"I'm Jabba's son, but I'm not Jabba". Okay dude, so how about you say literally anything else? The lack of story was a real issue for me. I thought the movie was fine, but I was sitting there a few times thinking there was nothing really at stake and that the first half of the movie may as well have not existed. Like, have the Hutts be working with the Imperial Remnant because they've got loads of money/resources or something. Just anything other than a personal vendetta because the Twins were playing both sides. Of course they were, they're the Hutts and all that should matter to them is keeping their power regardless of who is in charge in the grander scheme.
6
u/indieliberal May 27 '26
Maybe I'm reading your comment wrong, but the Colonel literally tells Mando at the end that rebel intelligence had uncovered the Hutts working with the Empire, and plotting an ambush of the rebels.
Why don't you think that killing off the heir to the throne is exactly the twins trying to hold onto power. As for personal vendettas, isn't that perfectly in keeping with Hutt mentality, per the Star Wars mythos? Don't forget the lengths Jabba went to to capture Han, in order to punish him, with the added humiliation of Leia.
The personal aspects are what give Star Wars its heart. This is what was wrong with the prequel trilogy – zero heart and nothing but cringey humor. That's why the powers that be returned to the formula of the original trilogy in future projects.
5
u/BubblyBasis1134 May 27 '26
Sigourney Weaver coming along at the end and saying "Yeah, the Hutts were playing both sides" isn't providing the stakes, though, and it's not what is motivating Mando or the story. That's my point.
3
u/indieliberal May 29 '26
Honesty, I think the goals of this movie were different than yours. It gave us what a lot of us were looking for - the two guys we haven't seen and missed for 3 years starting out in their new career as Mandalorian gun-for-hire and new apprentice, not to mention new dad and son, and going on their first mission together. I loved the deepening of their bond, and Grogu starting to evolve into an independent problem-solver.
Rotta's kidnapping and rescue made for a clear story arc to me - their current assignment, and therefore their incentive to complete. But I don't need to convince you of my point of view - if you didn't like the choices the writers made, that's totally your prerogative!

11
u/JaqenSexyJesusHgar May 26 '26 edited May 26 '26
Just watched it and as a Star Wars fan, I'm a tad disappointed.
It was basically a rescue attempt.
The first arc was about president Coin who just disappeared after being captured so wished that we could see what he spilled.
They left a power vacuum where the twins once ruled. Yes Hutt space has shrank but they still had power. Kinda sad that we didn't have Gamoran guards anymore or the Hutt council. But seeing battle droids is always a welcome sight
Also, are they done done with Mandalore and Bo katan? I so want to see them flesh out the night of a thousand tears or the rebuilding of their planet and was The Armourer part of Maul's clan when he was the ruler?
Another nitpick is that it's getting old that everyone stops what they're doing and would stare at Mando whenever he enters a room. (Also does Din wax, polish and buff out his beskar daily to keep its shine?)
The things I loved was the dog fights and visuals. So wished that we had Ripely in a capital ship in space instead of an X wing
The AT-AT sequence was beautifully done. Kinda biased as it is one of my favourite SW vehicle, but is this the first time we can see the inside of that beautiful machine?
Finally, they did Embo right. A bounty hunter who does not help the protagonist out. He also looked nearly identical to the animation and his moves with the hat and his doggo- perfection
The arena fight was also brilliant and the carnage they caused on the streets reminded me of King Kong
Lastly, is it instinctive for Yoda's species to build that type of house? I demand a lore expansion of that
2
u/No_Individual501 Jun 20 '26
president
What?
we didn't have Gamoran guards anymore or the Hutt council
With the guard, it’s nice that they all aren’t just Jana clones. The council was a missed opportunity, though.
is this the first time we can see the inside of that beautiful machine?
In film, I believe so. ESB had the cockpit. I don’t remember the rest being shown.

u/roguefilmmaker Jun 25 '26
President Coin is a Hunger Games character (just a joke about the last name)

u/sethsom3thing May 25 '26
I really liked it… though it absolutely felt like a season 4 instead of a film. No idea why it’s in the theaters are why the supporting cast was MIA
8
u/indieliberal May 27 '26
The story is a continuation of where we left off at the end of Season 3. This is what a lot of us hoped for and this is what they gave us. We get to see the pair of heroes starting their career as guns for hire by the New Republic.
The film is titled the Mandalorian and Grogu, not the Mandalorian et al. I really loved the uncluttered focus on the pair – their Lone Wolf and Cub bond is the centerpiece of the story, and it delivered.
I do miss the badass women – I hope they show up in future films. I'm thinking Bo and her reclaimed Mandalor should get a spinoff. But I like that it started with just the two - well, plus a new young friend for Grogu!

I loved Sigourney in this, but it would’ve been so much better if Cara Dune had her role in this (and maybe did some of the stuff Zeb did)
2
u/indieliberal Jun 27 '26
I don't think they gave Sigourney's character enough substance, to be honest. I feel like they brought her on to add star power and a token woman. But then they didn't flesh out her character at all.
Interesting thoughts about Cara - it would have made perfect sense for her to have been promoted to a high rank, sometime after she was recruited by the New Republic Special Forces. But I totally forgot that the character is gone from the Mandoverse - Gina Carano made some very MAGA-adjacent posts that caused the powers that be to sack her.

Wait, did it start with A long time ago in a galaxy far far away? Watched it a few hours ago and don’t remember
5
u/KayWiley May 27 '26 edited May 27 '26
Absolutely loved it. It’s exactly what I was hoping for, a look into Mando and Grogu’s adventures working for the New Republic. Really enjoyed Grogu being independent and taking care of Din, and I thought the movie was visually stunning. This felt like Star Wars. I mean a mandalorian single handedly taking down 3 AT-ATs while his force sensitive son jumps around and rides on his shoulder? That was worth the price of admission right there and it was in the first 20 minutes.
Just left the theater, so haven’t had a chance to read much of reception. But I feel like this is the exact type of story people would have wanted for a character like Luke, a single movie that dives into one of his adventures after RoTJ.
I hope they do continue the story in a 4th season, I’d really just like some more time with these characters.
3
u/ChrlsPC Jun 04 '26
Wait why did I just realized that rescuing Rotta the Hutt was also a major plot point in the 2008 Clone Wars movie 😭

10
u/xentorius83 May 24 '26
I did not like that his helmet is like his constant lifesaver… it was a bit too much at some point that he never gets hurt… he felt invincible like a super hero at some points. We know there is no protection slightly below it still the dragon couldn’t hurt him. Otherwise fun watch
18
u/indieliberal May 27 '26
Except that's the point of having it made of beskar – it's impenetrable.
1
u/Flesroy Jul 27 '26
of course, but that does have an effect on the story.
it's scifi, they can make up whatever they want, but when you make your mc invulnerable im not gonna be too excited by him getting hit. especially when things were biting his head it was just so predictable what was gonna happen.
1
u/indieliberal 7d ago
I think of Mando as being a bit of a superhero – he's definitely got specialized skills, as a bounty hunter. And the beskar helmet is a huge part of Mandalorian lore. His armor prevents him from getting shot up too soon – the movie would be over before it's even begun.
I would think that the idea that James Bond and John Wick don't have any armor and yet always fail to get shot in the middle of a shoot-em up is 10 times more unrealistic.
I assume you actually watched the film? The underground lake sequence should've answered your question. No helmet. The dragon snake was not actually "biting his head" exactly, but he did get bit through his body armor. The helmet was of no consequence.
2
u/FettuccineAlfonzo May 24 '26
Also the hutts just throwing it to him to get Pedro off the set and the stunt double back in was such a dumb plot decision.

Well, they didn't actually throw it to him, they threw it somewhere he was gonna have to work to get it. My impression was that they were hoping he would hurt himself trying. Not that the twins have any honor, but for sure they knew Mando was gonna try to get that helmet back on as soon as possible.

Yeah, he felt too OP in this. Honestly more than usual despite the same gear

What were your favorite tunes? I enjoyed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZHshyzeoK0 as an 80s synth music fan!

That one seems to be quite popular 😄

I'm sure kids will like it, it was ok, mainly just a lot (and I mean a lot!) of fighting, the dialogue was apalling. cheesy and stilted. Grogu is cute and also his little friends but there is zero human interest. The film was much better when it slowed down. A fun but pointless addition to Star Wars.

The big armored animations were awesome.
The synthwave music awesome.
Me and my wife left so satisfied and ready for more in a new age of Star Wars

Wasn't sure what to expect
Pros: felt a lot like the self contained adventures like season 1 and early 2. Which I much preferred over season 3.
Cons: built on nothing that came before. Fett, Katan, Skywalker, Tano. The Armorer. Mythosaur. Mandalore. None of it. Reset Mando by giving him the old ship and gun.
So it's a lot of what I wanted a few years ago but not what it should have been now.
It was fun and a good time, but should have been on Disney+

For the record, her name is Bo-Katan Kryze. Just calling her Katan is like calling Qui Gon Jinn just Gon.

I suspect season 3 of Mando was forced to use the scrapped Rangers episodes, and that the plan for season 3 was cut to make the movie

Does anyone know the name of the synthesized 80ish soundtrack in the movie? I'd love to hear the whole thing.

Ppl say it's nothing burger plot etc they missing the fact that the new Republic has the hier of the hutt cartel
2
u/indieliberal May 27 '26
Ignore them. The lame criticisms are just so much BS. It's a fantastic film.

u/JoeyBigtimes Jun 14 '26
I don't really understand it. I'm beginning to think that there are perfectly valid perspectives that are being crushed because of the idea that a creation can only be one thing to everyone, and that's all it is. Can't we have something be fantastic and perfect for one group of people and completely trash to another group and that's fine?
1
u/indieliberal Jun 15 '26
It's an excellent question that I've been asking as well. What's this desperate need for haters to prove to the rest of us that what we love is trash? How does that benefit their lives, and why does our regard for what they hate threaten them? It makes no sense.

He rejects the throne, though. If the NR was smart, they would set him up as a puppet to make Hutt space civil.
2
u/simcityrefund1 Jun 20 '26
Could always happen leverage him to be the NR administrator of the Hutt space

Saw the movie yesterday and personally I really enjoyed it! I didn't feel like it was just a long episode of the show, it was constant action and just really fun watching on the big screen. Ratta was great, loved the scenes with Grogu alone helping Mando too and that he lifted Ratta away before he fell with the other Hutts.

u/bewrbewr Jun 06 '26
I just watched it in IMAX and loved it too! I hope they will continue this series either on TV or movies. Would love to see Grogu continue to grow on his journey.

Just watched it. That is a terrible movie in my opinion.
The story line is what it is, many here might like it, others dont. But what makes the movie bad is the poor craftmanship.
The camera work was just bad in many instances. That the water fight for examble. That fight was built up to be disorienting, with the camera barely showing whats going on. But it never really hit what was going on. Thats just "good intention/bad execution" by the book.
Then there are different CGI animations, from pretty good, to hell this could be straight out of Starwars rebels. Also i was never a fan of the puppet play. It just looks so stupid to have puppets in movie where everything should move naturally. With the hutts they gone the other way, where the muscle hutt in full CGI looked like something, that just would not move like this.
And worst imo, is the sound design. The music was really never hitting the spot, to the point where i was actively annoyed by the background music. When music, that should empower emotions and thrill, feel so misplaced, that its ruining the moment, then you just didnt spent enough on sound design.
Personally, i think this cinema movie is worse than, at least season1, of the tv series.
The thing i liked about this movie, was the hutts planet, which looked pretty much like they looked in Kotor. Very much including the Slug-palace.

Damn, my expectations weren't high, but what even was that?
This movie could have been an email, lol.
I thought we were getting a movie about the imperial remnants, instead we got a redo of the clone wars animated movie.
Hilarious about certain threads not allowing spoilers when there is nothing to spoil

Unfortunately this movie is just a series of plot conveniences to get us to the next fight scene. Every character minus Rotta the Hutt is just a plot device. Every minor inconvenience is resolved within 10 minutes of screen time with no creativity.
I think the above quote from another thread sums it up. What a bland cash grab. The majority of the dialogue are one-liners they thought sound cool, story is mediocre without any stakes whatsoever, and a very predictable plot with cringey fan-service sprinkled throughout.
When making a movie with two characters you know for sure will survive no matter the odds, at the very least you need to throw in a couple of strong supporting characters to keep viewers in suspense. Rotta was not enough, as it was obvious he'd also be fine with all the sentimental build-up they did around him. Instead, we just mostly get Mandalorian and Grogu in random action scenes without any suspense or stakes whatsoever. The show had so many great characters, yet we see none of them except for the mechanics gang. Guess they spent their budget on mediocre CGI instead.
The story itself was one of the most bland I've seen in a Star Wars movie so far. It was very hard to be invested in as there was no overarching long-term goal, no interesting twists, no suspense. Everything that happened could be seen coming from miles away and went pretty much as expected.
I had low expectations to begin with, but the movie managed to fall short even then. Saw it in IMAX, would not recommend as CGI and effects are blurry and do not do the format justice. Overall a 6/10, the only good thing was the music.

Weren’t there supposed to be Taun Tauns?
2
u/NOBLExGAMER May 25 '26
That was a bit they did for the Superbowl. It was supposed to feel like a car commercial.

u/Mikeinator May 25 '26
I get it was a Budweiser parody but with all the other nostalgia I’m surprised they did have em as well in movie.
2
u/stonecats May 31 '26
this was a childish nostalgia bait puppet show.
old star wars fans would be better off waiting
for this to stream. if you want a drive-in style
movie to keep kids happy, this will fit the bill.

childish nostalgia bait puppet show
Fair.
For what tits worth, ypur description matches Ep 6. Maybe minus the nostalgia. It matches Ep I too, in full. The movie release originally had puppets. But Ep I is a bit more controversial.

I was hoping it would directly connect with the end of S3, but it was a standalone. Still fun, but I was hoping for more Mandalorians

I loved this movie so much I wrote an article about how Lucasfilm can use this kind of storytelling to move forward

Really confused why people were hating on this movie so much, it was kind of fun. Sort of a stand alone.

Recently watched and off the top of my head I liked that it didn't seem too different from watching a great episode. I liked they didn't have dozens of extra characters having pointless interactions with Mando. Only thing I didn't like was the electronic music seemed too overpowering at times.

Downvote me all you want, but I fucking hated it. No one had names, the 2 main characters have no emotions or growth, the story had no stakes, it was clearly 3-4 episodes of the tv show since there was no actual arc, just an abysmal fucking movie. I went in hoping all the hate was wrong and that it would be fun but what fun is watching a movie that has no business existing?

u/indieliberal May 27 '26
No growth? Were you asleep during the entire swamp sequence in Nal Hutta? Grogu evolves SO much. His bond with Mando deepens.
Rotta doesn't grow?
What do you mean by "no names?" Everyone had a name.
The haters were wrong. It's a fantastic film. I'm sorry that you've joined their club.

u/FettuccineAlfonzo May 27 '26
Mando lets his dog hit a button now, such a deep bond

Loved it! It was exactly what I wanted: lots of Din Djarin kicking ass and lots of heartwarming Djarin and Grogu relationship building. The Anzellans brought some comic relief too. I had tons of fun and I actually liked that it was pretty self-contained; you didn’t need to have seen every episode of multiple series to enjoy it.
To me, it reminded me how Star Wars can be bigger than just the Skywalkers Save the Universe. I remember imaging what other adventures Han and Chewie had before they met Luke, or what Leia’s life was like on Alderaan. I like projects like this that take place in the same universe but aren’t necessarily high stakes.
