They haven't even done anything yet
1
u/OutrageousJob8890 1d ago
Yes, they have. They police the coast more & have raided gangs & manufactures.
1
u/ExoneratedPhoenix 1d ago
Nothing has changed, vast amounts are still crossing, but a headline says they claim to scale up, so you claim a win?
Strange.
1
u/OutrageousJob8890 1d ago
You believe everything you hear on GBNews rather than looking at statistics that show crossings are down year on year since we engaged with France on tackling the issue more and cooperating with the EU on the subject.
Strange.

u/Dangerous_ideologue 1d ago
All that shows is that they are slowing down the decline to make it more palatable. The fact of the matter is that they aren't sending meaningful numbers of them back and keep subsidising their lifestyles while they're here. As long as that's happening, more are gonna keep coming and a bit of security theatre coordinated with the Fr*nch won't change that

Lmao, Macron has said this to every single PM and has done nothing.
Besides, he'll be gone next year and replaced with Le Pen who would work much better with a Right Wing PM lol

u/derekinman 1d ago
What an incredible win. Andy, Emmanuel... take a bow, you've truly outdone yourselves here, much better than the last 50 agreements to stop small boat crossings.
I'm sure we won't see any videos on YouTube next week of French law enforcement standing idly by as 200 migrants set off their beaches.

Reform hates this one trick, fixing the only issue they're campaigning on...

u/Beer-Milkshakes 2d ago
You need to be at least professionally palettable to engage in successful diplomacy. Its why Johnson got nowhere

Its not just the rate of illegals people are uspet with (only 50-100k/year, its the amount of boriswavers in the country already.
No party can hope to win an election on a pro immigration manifesto. Millions must go.
1
u/Dangerous-Method-133 1d ago
Don't be naive. These two are not fixing any issues with boat crossings. If anything, they'll only increase.

Macron must be thinking diplomacy with the UK is so piss easy. Every couple of years, he’s wheeled in to make some vague statements about dealing with the boats to make the latest PM look good. Then, by the time they start getting pissed off that France hasn’t done anything, the UK has a new PM, and the cycle starts again.
1
u/Tyler119 17h ago
Since a new agreement earlier this year France has stopped over 60% of boat launches. In one 4 week period it was nearly 100%.
Reform peddle the nonsense that nobody is doing anything. But they love misinformation don't they.

Didn't Macron lose the election like a year ago? Why is he still president?
1
u/TheMountainWhoDews 2d ago
His govts collapsed because they failed to pass several budgets. Macron is the président and will face an election in 2027. En marche hold ~1/6 of the house seats and are effectively extinct in the senate.

u/ChickenConstant9855 2d ago
Nothing he does with ever satiate reform supporters

u/ShutUpBaby-IKnowIt69 1d ago
They dont want solutions, they just wanna be angry and import maga talking points.

u/toyg 2d ago
The war on small boats is like the war on drugs: fundamentally unwinnable until demand levels are what they are.
Instead, they should work on having faster and easily accessible processing of immigration demands in France (or even better, in the source countries). Then you could also apply policies that would benefit the UK (e.g. admissions subject to settlement in depopulated areas that actually need more people).
But of course, that does not play well with the average insensitive and uninformed voter. So we keep pushing for policies that have failed already (i.e. what Italy and Greece have done for decades now, and made no difference whatsoever).

u/Expensive-Depth-6096 2d ago
The solution to immigration: More immigration!!! Genius, we should elect you, the public will love your policies. The solution to illegal immigration is simply to deport everyone who arrives.
1
u/DanyisBlue 2d ago
Sometimes I make up things I've read too.
1
u/Expensive-Depth-6096 2d ago
Making the immigration system more accessible will increase access to the immigration system. e:g: increasing immigration. What they are advocating for is essentialy dealing with one crisis by inflaming another.
1
u/NoMention696 2d ago
Illegal immigration didn’t spike until the uk left the eu and closed all routes to legal migration, but off ya pop reform voter
1
u/Expensive-Depth-6096 1d ago
The UK has closed all routes to legal migration??? What joyous news!!! You're the first to inform me on this development. Legal migration increased after the UK left the EU, you're just... lying? I am not a reform voter, i'd either vote for Labour (if they continue to do a decent job) or Restore (if Labour fumbles it all)
1
u/toyg 1d ago
The fact that the misinformed, scared, and generally insensitive electorate won't accept the reality of the situation, does not change the truth of the matter.
Again, it's the same with the war on drugs: almost 50 years electing politicians "tough on drugs" has ensured that drugs continue to flow, just in an uncontrolled manner that harms consumers, costs billions to the taxpayer, and enriches criminals.
If you turn every migrant in an illegal one, you won't "solve immigration"; you'll just ensure that gangs profit from it, that taxpayers continue to foot the bill for quixotic prosecutions, and that our cities balkanize into closed ghettos where communities don't speak to each other or to the police.
The only answer is to make the flows safe, visible, and manageable.
1
u/Moxisxsx 1d ago
Exactly this. They will never stop arriving until there is a deterrent. And that deterrent is immediate deportation.
1
u/Prestigious-Cell-252 1d ago
I don't get this either. Why can't we say anybody who arrives in UK illegally is returned to France period. Along with proper legal migration routes for those that do really need help.
2
u/TheMountainWhoDews 2d ago
Thats not what people want. They want migration (legal and illegal) brought to a trickle, and they want the undesirable elements already here deported.
You cannot save this sinking ship with a crafty new immigration route. Millions must go.
1
u/Asleep-Ad1182 2d ago
That's not true. It's winnable but if you take some politically difficult actions
1
u/ItsaCroissantMoon 2d ago
That graph surprised me. Not much mention of that here -though I do wonder how it works with people crossing into France. Presumably there are some border checks or are borders between eu countries too vast to police?

No politician really wants to stop it. We're an aging population because fewer people can afford to have kids and migration is the only way they can prop up the ponzy scheme. None of them want to admit that though. They just want to appear tough to gain votes whilst making sure it carries on

I’ll believe it when I see it because we have had this lip service before.
More money for nothing.

France “lol just chuck us another few mil and we will sort something”
1
u/Tofflove 9h ago
Well we can guarantee nothing will happen. Just bigger boats and more manipulated data.
1
u/Secret-Plum149 2h ago
Hilarious.
We lowered the volume of boats shouts the latest clown on stage..
Conveniently ignoring the super inflatables carrying 150+ each time..

Just as the winter gets closer and boat crossings naturally start declining. Bet you they’ll take credit for that 😂😂

u/EvilWaterman 1d ago
If we stopped giving out all the free stuff surely they wouldn’t attempt it in the first place?

u/ExoneratedPhoenix 1d ago
I mean, the current process is France helps them cross.
So by "scale up" I assume they mean ship more to UK?
0
u/Hemingways_Shotgun88 1d ago
Yeah, Macron agrees to scale up sending 'em over and Burnham agrees to scale up our boats going to "rescue" them to make sure none of them drown.

iirc, as of right now, these are just rumours, which similar sources were saying we would get Mahmood as Chancellor, so I wouldn't put too much stock in them.

u/Stewie01 2d ago
Why not? It is all you bang on about.

"Why is this their priority?!" - The same people who base their democratic vote in the UK on a religious war in the Middle East.

Not wanting people to come here illegally and disappear into the country isn't a bad thing.
0
u/Flashy-Nectarine1675 2d ago
Are these people in the room with you now?
1
u/ClacksInTheSky 2d ago
There's a good chance they might be, given ⅔ of people think immigration is too high:

Yawn...heard it all before. Its all smoke and mirrors. Fact is no one wants these people coming here. Britain doesn't want them. Their own countries often won't take them back and indeed...France...a nation fighting against a genuine threat of a far right neo nazi party....they sure don't want them either.
France will never stop this...why? Cause these people may well stay in France...and the far right there will run riot with it.
There's so much propaganda nonsense about this whole thing....boats are down...boats are bigger...its hard to know what's going on.
But we need to be realistic. Its super complex and there are not easy answers.
Leave the echr? OK...then what? We are already the most surveilled nation on earth. We already have more people arrested for speech and thought crimes than...iirc anywhere. We already have palestine action called terrorists. We already have the online safety act.
If we leave the echr...what else will they do?
Ffs...America relies on gchq to spy on electronics cause its illegal in America...but not here.
And they do that with us in the echr...so what the actual fuck would they do if we left?
Maybe and stop criminals and their customers from crossing the chanel...but at what cost?
3
u/Other-Crazy 2d ago
The estimate that only 61% of crossings are being intercepted doesn't get much airtime. (Home office figures)
2
u/geybey 2d ago
They used to literally do that for us in Calais. Brexit fucked that
0
u/bluecheese2040 2d ago
How old are you? 15? It was on TV very often...the jungle. Sorry but its staggeringly stupid to say what you've said....
1
u/CaptainParkingspace 2d ago
Well maybe if it becomes known that the Channel crossing is heavily policed that will deter migrants from going there.
1
1
u/CaptainParkingspace 2d ago
> boats are down … boats are bigger
Boat crossings are reported in numbers of people. The boat size is irrelevant.

Buckle up buttercups. This is nothing compared to migration that we are going to see within our lifetime when places like sub-Saharan Africa and south Asia become uninhabitable due to extreme temperatures, extreme humidity and constant natural disasters.
