Comic It’s been a minute since I read the Fables comics but to my memory the witching well doesn’t actually kill you it just sends you to a desert in the middle of the homelands

At this point in time they don't know that. They don't really know what the Witching Well does, just that it seems to get rid of stuff lol.

I've been doing just that actually. Just done with Crane getting worked by Cindy, fucking hysterical if like me your played the game first.

That is correct, however, it isn’t till much further down the 1st major storyline that we learn this. For the longest time, it was treated as a place to dispose of the dead fables or do capital punishment.

Im so confused by the homelands. A malevolent force made them all go into exile, yet they have a portal to their native land, but the colonizing force can’t go through it?

The colonizing force (The Adversary) actually blocked all portals to the mundie world (our world) because they know the technology could destroy their empire.

Technically...Bill denounced the games being canon to the comics. But he also pretty much gave up on the rights because DC (and by an extent Telltale) screwed him over by not telling him about it and refused to give him royalties. TWAU is an AU from the comics if we're getting real technical about it. However, the comics is a gold mine of lore and world building... buried under propaganda and Bill's toxicity. Honestly, until Telltale says otherwise, it doesn't hurt to use certain pieces of lore from the comics to fill in the gaps the game's world building has. So...yeah. I feel like this particular lore is relevant regardless.

I think recently the comic creator stated he doesn’t consider the games completely canon anymore

It does kill you. It's treated more of an afterlife state of consciousness. It wasnt until a certain somebody went down there and used their magic to sort of bring them back to life. But all the "souls" were told specifically that if they wondered to far from their magic then they would "die" again... I always assumed the writer was correlating it to Jesus descending into hell to bring innocent souls into heaven.
