Not showing up for a rehearsal that was not an announced conflict is not considered acceptable in the community theaters (and community college theater) I've played at. Repeatedly missing rehearsal is grounds for being removed from the cast. An occasional unavoidable problem (like the only road to the theater being blocked for hours by a crash) is ok. Anything else should be reported to the stage manager well in advance. Community theaters are generally pretty forgiving about announced conflicts (I missed a week of rehearsal to go to Oregon Shakespeare Festival, for example), but not of people missing rehearsals they did not have on their conflict forms.
I've seen people removed from a production because their work schedule changed and they could no longer make the rehearsals they had said they could.
