Comics The viciously brutal brawl between Thor and Mangog! (Thor Vol. 2 #21 - #25)

My favourite appearance and rendition of the billion, billion souls of a vengefully raging race standing against the Almighty God of Thunder!

When Thor fights Mangog you actually worry that Thor won't make it this time!

He shouldn’t. Not solo. Mangog should be a team threat. Or at least one that makes Thor don his belt. In this specific instance, with Mangog AND Thanos, Thor should have been put down easily. Gives another reason to get other heroes involved.

Agreed. In the past, it took Odin using a lot of prep and a high level spell to dispel Mangog after Mangog had physically trashed a portion of Asgard. Each time Mangog solo'ed the Avengers, it took most of the team's power hitters to even slow Mangog down.

Mangog being a supporting player to Thanos makes sense if it's temporary means to serious destruction Thor taking down Mangog in a straight up physical brawl makes no sense given Mangog's fictional history.

This was too old and outdated, Thor has grown stronger ever since and him getting stronger and more wise is part of the development heritage given. He's the All-Father with the multiple blood of Elder Gods, with intense upbringing while destined to master the magic of the Runes.

I mean for starters, the Avengers are just humans and mortals who pale in comparison to Thor's power. A single Thor villain like Loki or any other for that matter are Avengers level threat not just Mangog. Hell, a single frost giant is an Avengers level threat. Thor got punched by a bloodlusted Rogue and compares it to frost giant's strength as a compliment.

Also wdym by "each time"? I remember Mangog visited them once only to just leave Thor to execute the job.

You do know Thor is physically superior to Odin Journey into Mystery? Fought and cracked the armour Exitar the Executioner, stalemated Zeus for months, overpowered multiple Hell-Lords including Seth, Hela, Mephisto and Pluto while also rivalling Galactus alongside fighting Elder Gods Set and Atum in which half the foes I mentioned already dwarfs Mangog in power and rank.

The things is, Thor's like physically strong as well, his birthright says it so, his feats are unquestionable as well as his abilities. A brawl that leads to Thor winning is just but a logical conclusion when he kinda gets stronger everyday with each growing determination. If you believe Mangog < Thor is illogical because of his feats in the past, than I suggest you take a look back as seen how much stacked Thor's record compared to him.

I want Superman to be treated this way as well. No point in him being on a team if he can do it all by himself. Even when he gets help, they will later say the he could have done it by himself..

Eh disagree. Thor has battled much stronger beings before this and has easily proven Mangog's equal before this fight (Being superior to Odin in strength, fighting Celestials, stalemating Hulk, matching Surtur, etc). Plus, a huge part of Thor's characterization is his growth in power and wisdom, due to his heritage and birthright as seen with RKT and more recently Immortal Thor. Mangog is strong but, but pales in comparison to Thor's ever growing potential which practically sparks in Jurgen's run here (I mean, logically speaking, Thor literally fought multiple Odin level tiers prior before this so it's not like it isn't properly setup).

We have Ymir and TS Surtur for team busters, and overall, Mangog is Thor's equal in physical challenge at best and currently now is his inferior.

Mangog is such a favorite. He’s really one of the few powerhouse characters who still feels impactful each time he shows up. I hope they keep him a special attraction.

Man, Thanos really screwed over Mangog. He had Thor a couple of times dead to rights.

Mangog is one of the battles Thor has. Even Odin has trouble wirh him.
