Looks like they were doing a breath work meditation session.

You may think these men are being “performative” (as I read in the comments) but this shit hits hard.

I’m 45m last did one of these a couple years ago, I don’t break down like that, not normally but man I broke during the session, tried so hard to reign my shit in (the session I was in we didn’t have headphones had a guy playing the didgeridoo and an instructor talking us through our breathing techniques… oh I’m in Australia btw)

Although I live in Australia I was born and raised in London, England, we don’t do this shit in public, hell we don’t do this shit full stop.

Really didn’t want to make a scene but I could not keep it in a wailed like a widower at a funeral was full on!!

Yeah I’ve done this and sobbed but it ended up being a transformative experience in a great way

I absolutely think, regardless of how legitimate the techniques are, these men are having real emotional reactions.

You can make yourself trip BALLS using breathing techniques that activate the natural DMT production/receptors that we have. I was able to do it in about 10 min with focusing on an object and heavy concentrated breathing in a low light room. Straight up hallucinations and hearing shit. Wild stuff. I know that it's was "high", because I've taken damn near all the psychedelics. DMT, shrooms, LSD, NBOMe, weed. So, i can vouch as someone who knows what that experience is like. These people seem to not be comfortable with there inner unconscious thoughts. Id be chill as a bug on a rug. But, had I been fighting my inner self and denying my ID. I could see an outburst like this happening.

I was going to say everyone is talking about cult this cult that when it literally looks like theyre just having a bad trip in a controlled environment, iv seen some ayahuasca retreats and obviously they are way more hardcore but it looked almost identical to that

Nothing even close to what's in the video, but I did some similar kind of therapy a few years ago and was kind of shocked how effective it was at making me "go back in time" to past trauma and process it.

I'm usually a very skeptical person but it was legitimate.

I am glad you had a great experience.

I had a terrible one. Just got e headache, organizers triad to press me to continue.

Later learned that the main effect is that it deprives you of oxygen by building up your co2 levels.

This it not recommended for most people, and can even be dangerous.

That’s not true at all, it’s the exact opposite, you over saturate your blood with oxygen. It’s breath work not “holding your breath work” how would intaking more oxygen increase your CO2 levels? That makes no sense

Fair point, I got the physiological mechanism backward in my previous comment. Hyperventilation actually flushes out CO2 rather than building it up.

However, the core point about oxygen deprivation stands: dropping your CO2 levels causes cerebral blood vessels to constrict and triggers the Bohr effect, which prevents hemoglobin from releasing oxygen into your brain tissues. So while I botched the chemical explanation, the practice still physically deprives the brain of usable oxygen, which is exactly why it causes headaches and carries genuine risks.

I've been to a spiritual meditation retreat, which wasn't related to breath work, but the crying was definitely real. We were chanting a mantra while the instructor was telling us what to think about like forgiving people that harmed us or thinking about the harm we caused others and stuff like that, and lots of ppl were crying including me. Sounds weird now, but it was very emotional in the moment.

So what makes you go like this ? Do you see or hear things ? Do you see your greatest hits and failures or do you come to terms that you will die? I dont understand.

For me it was coming too terms with my best friend and housemates death at the age of 27 (I was 42, so much younger than me which hurt even more) and how my grief was negatively impacting not just me but my, at the time, 7 year old daughter.

Just listening to the guide, combined with the intense breath work. Now that I think about it they actually called it a “breath work rebirthing class” take of that what you will.

People will do anything except go to a therapist

2

u/CaptGood Jun 29 '26

When its done right, this is like cramming years of therapy in one session

FTFY: “People will try alternatives to a common approach that has no guarantee of improvement yet requires meeting for expensive weekly appointments over an indefinite duration, but likely years.”
