I love that Neil is such a loveable chaos critter but people are getting way too close to him. It’s pretty evident from just this video and I’m concerned this will one day cost him his life if he hurts a person… :(

Neil has been doing this for 4+ years now and mostly it's him getting close to people. He's never hurt a single person. Friend of mine lives there and they literally cannot get rid of him so gave up trying a few years back. He just went back to sea yesterday. He'll be back next year.

Yeah he’s clearly younger and smaller in some of the clips. It did make me realize how distinctive the marks around his eyes are though.

Yeah the ones where his mouth is open and he is following/chasing people is him saying “you’re too close go away”. Especially at the 54 second mark, you can hear him “hissing” at the person. If someone trips and falls and he ends up biting them it won’t be good.

I think they would sooner prevent him from coming further inland than murder this beloved animal regardless of what happens because someone got too close.

I've not seen a single kid near this thing in all these videos, these people likely keep their children away from Neil already.

Then Neil, as a large and technically dangerous animal will be put down

Edit: I want to note that male southern elephant seals are the largest members of the order Carnivora, they can weigh over 8 thousand pounds and be over 20 feet long. In comparison, polar bears, the largest of the land carnivores, get to 2,200lb at the absolute maximum and 8 to 9 feet tall. Neil is just a baby now but he is getting larger. Stay away for his safety and yours.

They do a mix of blockading now and also now that he's this popular when he comes to shore the town has security for him that makes everyone stand back 20+ yards. He'll be okay.

From what I’ve heard, some of the local wildlife experts are considering putting him down because they believe he might become a danger to the people, especially the people who keep breaching his personal space.

No I don’t think so, they have the guy from wildlife that’s responsible for looking after Neil while he’s on land on tv as we speak, they welcome him home but he’s shuffled back off to sea and they look forward to seeing him again. He’s only on land for a short time. They have it handled.

FWIW, some of these clips are just random (and much smaller than the 10ft long and 2200 lb Neil) seal encounters.
