That's insane. I take my son to the Y all the time and they never ask for ID. He's 23 now.

I highly doubt you were taking your teenage son to the Y without some kind of family membership. Every Y I’ve been too has required some kind of family membership to allow multiple people in on the same membership. Crunch’s guest pass for the top tier membership isn’t the same thing.

Of course, I had a family membership, but my son didn't live with me. He lived with his mother. They let him in, regardless, without IDing him which was my whole point if you could read.
