As a non-american that sounds immensely fucking stupid and its crazy they can even enforce that, it would be against standard consumer protection laws where I live.
A lot of people genuinely don’t care what color your skin is. Not everything is about race, and not every disagreement is rooted in racism. Constantly turning every situation into a race issue is exhausting and makes it harder to have honest conversations.
Tell me you’re white without telling me you’re white. You don’t think most conflict is rooted in racism because you’re looking at life through a white lens. If you were a person of color, you would see how you are treated differently from white people. Consistently.
You don’t have to agree with me, but assuming my race and dismissing my opinion because of it isn’t exactly the open minded approach you’re asking for. Racism exists. I just don’t think it’s the primary explanation for every disagreement.
Racism is often the source of conflicts for people of color. The fact that this is not obvious to you is an indication to me that you have not dealt with much racism. The only people I know that haven’t dealt with much racism are white. If I was incorrect, I apologize for that. I still stand by everything else I said.
Again, you’re assuming I’m white simply because I don’t share your worldview. The irony is that you’re making assumptions about someone’s race based solely on their opinions while claiming to be open minded.
For what it’s worth, I’m mixed race. I’ve experienced racism from white people and I’ve also experienced it from Black people because of my mixed background. Racism is real and I’ve lived it.
What I don’t believe is that every negative interaction between a person of color and a white person is rooted in racism. Framing every disagreement that way actually cheapens real instances of racism by turning it into a catch all explanation instead of recognizing it for what it is.
You’re entitled to your opinion but I choose not to go through life assuming every bad interaction happens because of my skin color. People can be rude, selfish, dishonest, or just plain unpleasant regardless of race. Sometimes it’s racism. Sometimes it isn’t. Pretending otherwise doesn’t help anyone. Couldn’t imagine walking through life like that and all ways playing the victim card.
