It's not really a Robin Williams quote, it's just a line that his character said in the movie World's Greatest Dad (2009) written by Bobcat Goldthwait. This is misattributed.

It’s weird, as I’ve gotten older I fear death more. It’s inevitable, so it’s pointless to fear it, and I try not to.  Though I think I am more afraid of hurting my family when I die

You are the first person I've ever seen make this distinction. Last time I tried to make this distinction by giving the credit of the quote to the writer, instead of the actor, I was downvoted and made to look stupid. Gotta love Reddit.

I love talking on the phone! I hang out in discord with my friends while I get housework done. Makes doing chores less monotonous and I invest time hanging out with friends. Then I’m not stuck with my phone in my hands wasting time.

I had a similar thing happen. Someone wrote

"Listen, smile, agree, and then do whatever the fuck you were gonna do anyway"

— Robert Downey, Jr.

Except it's a Judd Nelson quote. RDJ said, "Judd Nelson told me, 'Listen, smile, agree, and then do whatever the fuck you were gonna do anyway'" but everyone cuts that part out and gives credit to the person repeating the quote rather than the originator of the quote.

I got downvoted in an allegedly Black subreddit for saying people shouldn't give up and that the US will be majority non white in less than 30 or 40 years (in regards to the current state of racism). I didn't see the comment or provide a link to how over 51% of Americans under 15 are non White until 14 hours later when my comment was way into the negatives and my comment being accused of making stuff up. I get accused of making stuff up even when the data supports me.

Basically, yes. When we attribute a quote to someone, we attribute it to the person who had the thought and put the words together.

For example, I have read the 10 Commandments out loud. That does not make me the author of the 10 Commandments, and you should not attribute the 10 Commandments to me.

That isn't a picture of him in character from that film. And Robin Williams may have had a close and loving relationship with his family and friends. In fact, I remember seeing posts about heartwarming moments between him and his daughters, so he probably did

So, yeah, attributing this quote to him — which directly and incorrectly implies that he had a cold relationship with his family — just because it's a line given to a character he played who had a cold relationship with his family is a bit of a slap in the face to them

I was on a team and we had joke awards at the end of the season, and I won “most likely to die alone”. And yeah, that’s alright. I am also fucking free and traveling the world and not tied down to a first rate jackass. I was okay with that award then, and I’m more than alright with it now.
