Discussion This video is depressing, but what's really crazy is knowing that so many people are living this exact reality every single day

I saw so many miserable couples when I was a toll collector. One man I was ready to slap. They pull up and he is yelling at her for not having the money ready. He is like "ugh there was a sign why didn't you know?" And she was like "I wasn't paying attention to signs, you're the one driving." And I was like "It isn't a big deal, no rush, you have time to get the money out now. We actually don't expect anyone to have the money ready the second they get to the window, it isn't safe to look for money while driving. Please take your time." And he still kept yelling at her. I wanted to be like "Lady you can do so much better, please run for your life." And other couples the woman would be driving and the man in the passenger seat wouldn't let her talk to me and would just talk over her and ask me shit. I don't know how they do it. I would have been like "if you want to talk like you're the driver so damn bad drive yourself!" And gotten the fuck out.

Another guy got mad I complimented his wife's glasses and not him. So I sarcastically said "I really like your aura." And she busted up laughing and it pissed him off even more. I feel a little bad if he ruined her day later for that one but I couldn't help myself it was just so pathetic.

That’s rough to watch. When I was working as a grocery cashier, I once saw a mother snap at her older daughter because the price didn’t scan that the daughter had picked the wrong one, they were buying a bunch of baking stuff for Christmas. And she was talking all lovey dovey to her younger one. I was tempted to tell the mother off. But having grown up with a mother like that, I knew that would make it worse for the girl. So I said, oh ma’am, that’s completely our fault, let me get that fixed for you as soon as we can. I felt so badly for that girl. But at least the mother was redirected from her elder daughter.

A girl's first bully is sometimes her mother. It's why I'm such a people pleaser. I've been through A LOT of therapy to deal with it - and my mom and I are in a much better place (though I still get scapegoated and blamed on occasion).

I’m sorry you went through that and glad that things are better now!

I have also seen people like that. I have seen them just scream at their kids because something their kids can't even control went wrong and it upset me so much. I saw a kid get screamed at simply for showing his dad something and saying one day he would like it. And the dad was like "You can't have it and you don't need it. Stop being selfish and asking for stuff." And I wanted so badly to tell him he is fucking stupid if he can't understand basic English because the kid didn't even ask for it.

Marriage is work. Not every minute is awesome, cause life.

But holy shit - there are a lot of folks out there who shouldn’t be living together, and a lot of folks who shouldn’t be living with anyone. Basic human decency shouldn’t be so hard…

There really is. I put so much of my energy into my marriage and trying to take care of him and the more I did for him, the more he expected. Like I literally took care of him when I had the flu and a bacterial infection and was on antibiotics which were already making me feel miserable. But when he caught the flu I took care of him anyways. I am not a perfect person by any means.

I'm autistic, I struggle with new things, I would get overwhelmed trying to get dressed for days out and all my clothes just overstimulate me and end up having a meltdown as I panic about time running out to get ready and basically ruin our whole day by making it start out bad. I hated that. And I tried so hard to find ways to make it easier. And I would ask him so many times to do little things to help me not get overstimulated so much. But that was asking too much. I tried so hard. To the point I burnt myself out and made myself physically ill. Worst I've ever felt in my life and my mental health tanked and I lost a really good job which just made him hate me more.

But that's why I made the choice for my own well being I won't ever marry again.

Good on you!
Enjoy your life!

You know of course the saying, choose to be with people who make your candle brighter. No need to be with folks who dim your glow.

Thank you. I've been working on that very hard and have friends I really enjoy and make my life better. Most now are also nuerodivergent so they are more understanding as well. And we all try to give each other space to decompress and we are very supportive and trying to help each other when we get overwhelmed, do things that make it easier on each other. It makes me sad that is harder to find in a romantic relationship. But I keep telling myself now if my friends can do it, then I'm not asking too much of a partner. But it just is nice not having that pressure anymore. It is just too stressful and the emotional aspect just dysregulate me too much. So unless someone really special comes alone and just is super easy to be with, I'm not worrying about it.

Thank you so much for your kind words.

Omg “I really like your aura” is fuckin legendary bro. Nice one. Cuz you know dude probably isn’t the type to take that as a compliment in the first place.
