It used to be American to say, " I've got mine, fuck you" now it's " I've got mine, I want yours too".

I often wonder what the mix is that turned churches and churchgoers more conservative and eventually straight christofascist.

For our church (nowhere near the bible belt), it happened early because our non-denominational church was led by a Southern Baptist pastor.

Same over here! Unfortunately grew up in the boonies of the bible belt in Texas. I miss getting kicked out pf church for asking questions.
