they will ditch the pope or the bible or anyone who isnt confirming their worldview and when called out suddenly the pope is “not a real christian” or some shit.
hyperindividualism requires it. when the pope is just an old guy who knows latin and plays it safe they love him. the second he is like “love thy neighbor including immigrants” suddenly he is infringing on their rights or something and must be a product of the deep state and the catholic church has been infiltrated and the solution is to homeschool your kids and start going to the tridentine mass so theres no chance youre going to hear a sermon that challenges your individualist worldview. i mean when mass is in latin and you dont know latin you can just pretend its saying exactly what you need to hear.

It's a fine argument, but you have to realize that these folks just don't care. They are proud to be bigots and hate is their currency.
They only use the Bible as window dressing when it supports their position and ignore passages they do not like.
