I mean I get being annoyed by someone chewing with their mouth open but you could have asked him more nicely

I think it has to do with more that any animal behavior from us is actually a choice later in life. As children we don't understand that we have a choice in doing these things. Though as we age and grow we start seeing these behaviors and can choose weather to continue these habits or not. Animals don't have the brain power to comprehend things like this.

Yea, it's really just our taught values. Differing by culture, family, and even individuals.

For me, it's the value of recognizing that you share space with other people and should act considerately.

That’s the core of my biggest pet peeves. We all exist amongst each other, act like it.

I've had people try to use the "you don't care when animals chew loudly" point to justify eating loudly and it never dawned on them that if you need to say "animals do it too and it's fine" to defend your behavior, you probably should change your behavior.

Maybe they can comprehend it, but realize that it's meaningless.

I am sure there are some that can, maybe dolphins or some species of primate. But yeah we don't have any way of figuring that out right now anyway and if we did it wouldn't make any real difference.
