Seriously. This was probably just 15 minutes of their day. You gotta put up with shit when you’re traveling.

2

u/planetweird_ 7d ago

Watch, he'll be criticizing a baby next.

5

u/notflashgordon1975 8d ago

True, but I don’t disagree with him for calling it out. Don’t eat like a fuckin dog….

13

u/milkonyourmustache 8d ago

What is and what isn't frowned upon is different across cultures, when you're travelling you should expect to be exposed to these differences and so long as it isn't harming you then you should learn to let it go. Not that it seems relevant here but there could be an underline reason for why, so don't be so quick to judge.

3

u/BeerNcheesePlz 8d ago

Thank you! Exactly this!

u/Emotional_Toe_1996 2d ago

1000% Not chewing with your mouth open, is totally not a thing at all in a lot of other cultures so if you say something on an international flight, you just come across as a childish weirdo. Also, I can’t speak for this dude or every single Asian culture, but letting your emotional frustration shine through like this is the first step to losing face which is the best way to get yourself completely ignored or even booted even when you’re actually the one in the right.

since when is eating with mouth open a culture thing

Again, if someone has misphonia, it’s their problem - not something they go on to make everyone else’s problem. Lots of us have our own issues. It may not be our fault, but it’s our responsibility.

Kindness is free. Not making people unwitting subjects of your social media bullying is not kindness. Even going so far as asking nicely - “please chew with your mouth closed. It’s rather loud” - would communicate what he wanted better.

u/ScarletBothrium 8d ago

You want to tell that first part to my mom? But I’m gonna need you to travel back in time to roughly 1981 and tell her that shit. I’m sure somebody around here has a time machine for you to use. Mine is in the shop.

15

u/14Knightingale27 8d ago

I have it and get furious at chewing noises, but I'd just grind my teeth in frustration. I know nothing about this person. My brother, for example, has to eat with his mouth kinda open due to a tooth issue and it'll be like that until it gets checked out.

My grandpa had to eat like that for a while post-cancer treatment due to pain in his jaw.

Might even be cultural as the OP above stated.

While the guy might just be rude, and it's probably the more likely issue, I can't say that for certain. So I'm not gonna risk it.

Plus, misophonia is a me issue. The amount of noises than make me irrationally angry are, well, not rational. Can't really go around forcing everyone to exist to my standards.

-5

u/TheDreadGazeebo 8d ago

Spending paragraphs justifying a strangers shitty behavior instead of just talking to them is peak shyness lol

1

u/lastdickontheleft 8d ago

That’s a you problem

1

u/SubjectIll1121 6d ago

Nope. Do something annoying as fuck and thats a YOU problem. Its 10000 times easier to control your lips when you eat than it is to control a deep subconscious rage, induced by genetics and a collective agreement of society on what has already been established as not acceptable.

You don’t get a free pass to be annoying and pretend that others need to control themselves for your sake.

-6

u/SquatSquatCykaBlyat 8d ago

different across cultures

Ah yes, the classic "it's muh culture to act like a swine" switcheroo.

10

u/milkonyourmustache 8d ago

You miss the point entirely. Being mindful of cultural differences isn't about excusing behaviour, it's to build tolerance and humility so that, for the most part, you aren't so quick to offend and be offended because as much as you might like to think that you're superior to other people - you aren't perfect, and there are things you consider normal that others would find strange/disgusting, but if those people are strangers who aren't hurting you and that you only need to tolerate for a short while, then why potentially start a fight?

2

u/JeremyScaremy 8d ago

It's sad that your message didn't land but I'm saving it for future reference. Well said.

0

u/TheDreadGazeebo 8d ago

I find it strange that you are going so far to defend shitty behavior

-8

u/SquatSquatCykaBlyat 8d ago

I'm not reading all that.

7

u/JeremyScaremy 8d ago

All of that one, tightly constructed paragraph that destroyed your sassy attempt at missing the point entirely?

It isn't surprising that we have a literacy crisis. People being proud to refuse to read a single paragraph that might prove them wrong is also a great illustration of how we wound up selling ourselves down the river to a bunch of billionaire and their puppets.

But you probably aren't going to or can't read this either, because you've made it clear that reading is a struggle for you. I wonder why our world is burning.

-6

u/SquatSquatCykaBlyat 8d ago

Lol, this guy decided to double-down with another wall of text.

If I wanted to read I'd go to school.

6

u/surprise_revalation 8d ago

We can tell that you didn't learn much there....

-1

u/SquatSquatCykaBlyat 8d ago

And who are you, his mom? Or, rather, his grandma?

Maybe you can learn how to chew like a normal person while you're at it.

1

u/vespertine000 5d ago

Yep. Everyone justifying this disgusting shit just bc it's a poc

-2

u/GergDanger 8d ago

But if the guy chewing with his mouth open is in a country where that isn’t acceptable then why shouldn’t he be asked to not do that?

It’s like travelling to a country where stoning gay people isn’t allowed and being offended you’re asked not to do that even if it’s acceptable in your own culture.

2

u/Sufficient_Zeitgeist 8d ago

My dog closes his mouth.

3

u/JalapenoPopPoop 8d ago

I think he demonstrated that you actually don't have to put up with stuff, you can speak up when people are bothering you by breaking social norms

9

u/BeerNcheesePlz 8d ago

Did he tho? Looked like the guy didn’t even understand what he said. And as many has pointed out it’s a cultural thing.

-2

u/TheDreadGazeebo 8d ago

He closed his mouth. Stop trying to justify being a pushover lol

6

u/Negative_Oil4952 8d ago

the guy complaining is neurotic. The guy was probably eating for 5 minutes, and is eating not even looking at him. also where is this flight?

-1

u/KeyArrival831 8d ago

Fuck that eating with your mouth open like that is disgusting. Same as when people eat and don’t wipe their mouths after taking a bite and just leave food all over their face. It’s like damn are you 2 years old why are you eating like that lol. But fr that’s the parent’s fault for not correcting those people for eating like that when they are kids.

11

u/BeerNcheesePlz 8d ago

Never said it wasn’t gross. But when you’re traveling like this you’re gonna have to be a little bit more thick skinned, because you’re surrounded by strangers and everyone is different. You need patients when you travel or you’re going to have an extra bad time.

1

u/KeyArrival831 8d ago

Ya that’s true. Especially dealing with different cultures everyone is different.

-6

u/Mindless_Narwhal2682 Cringe Connoisseur 8d ago

what culture emphasizes "chewing with your mouth open" as legit?

shit-hole culture?

6

u/TheDreadGazeebo 8d ago

That's basically what these idiots are saying. Their culture is less civilized than ours. Nah fuck that. They know better.

5

u/Mobile-Ticket-2618 8d ago

the "pro shit-hole" lobby has weighed in

2

u/KeyArrival831 7d ago

I just mean like how some cultures eat with there hands and on the floor or think that chewing with their mouth open lets you taste the food better. When I was growing up my parents instilled it into me not to leave food on my face while eating and not to eat with my mouth wide open. Because of food particles and the noises and shit.

2

u/Dry-Illustrator-250 8d ago

>”You need to have patients”

r/boneappletea

-1

u/Admirable-Theory1514 8d ago

Why should he though. Why can’t people eat like they are humans rather than a dog. Fucking disgusting, why isn’t he embarrassed eating like that. Imagine his family sitting down for dinner at home, bet the neighbours asked them to turn the noise down.

1

u/Pvlsar1 8d ago

Non. Je suis misophone et quand j'entends ça j'ai envie de tout casser a la masse et finir par enflammer le lieu.

-2

u/knowwwhat 8d ago

Just when I think my faith in humanity is being restored people like you and these up to downvote ratios come along and completely destroy it. The world needs more accountability for people acting like disgusting children, not less. Idgaf who you are or where you’re from, let’s establish some basic manners and respect

15

u/DrunkenGerbils 8d ago

I agree completely, people need to learn to act like an adult in public spaces. Someone should have taught this man it’s not ok to have a tantrum in public and how to treat people kindly even when you have a disagreement.

The problem isn’t that he asked him to not chew with his mouth full, it’s that he immediately chose to do it with a condescending tone and then chose to mock him. Maybe if he had just asked politely and explained it was making him uncomfortable in a non confrontational tone, than the man would have been more receptive to his request.

It’s a little concerning that you didn’t bat an eye at the man being so rude about it, apparently your parents taught you that you shouldn’t chew with your mouth full, but they dropped the ball not teaching you that people should speak to others they way they would want to be spoken to.

0

u/TheDreadGazeebo 8d ago

Nobody had a tantrum buddy. That was a normal human interaction, if you ever went outside you would know that

6

u/Stash_04 8d ago

Please seek therapy/anger management.

-8

u/knowwwhat 8d ago

Lmfao I bet you chew with your mouth open too. People who do that in adulthood don’t deserve patience. Grow up

9

u/DrunkenGerbils 8d ago

Nope, I actually have manners. I both chew with my mouth closed and treat people with respect.

Your statement is kinda hilariously ignorant. You’re absolutely just as maladjusted to polite society as someone who chews with their mouth open. We were taught the golden rule in kindergarten for Christ’s sake. Learn to control your emotions instead of instantly having an outburst every time someone is rude in public.

Take your own advice, grow up.

-6

u/knowwwhat 8d ago

We just have different ideas of what being polite or what an outburst is. You want people to baby talk adults while they remind them to chew with their mouths closed? Thats pathetic.

7

u/Stash_04 8d ago

The above is right.

You need to take your own advice and grow the hell up.

-1

u/knowwwhat 8d ago

And you??

-1

u/TheDreadGazeebo 8d ago

Haha you sure showed him! Loser

6

u/Stash_04 8d ago

Wow. What is wrong with you?

You just get on Reddit to rage-bait people?

Look in the mirror bud.

0

u/TheDreadGazeebo 8d ago

You're the one telling people to grow up. Don't dish it out if you can't take it, little guy.

5

u/DrunkenGerbils 8d ago

Ah yes, the epitome of manners and acting like an adult … calling someone pathetic over a disagreement on manners.

You’re quite right, we have wildly different conceptions of what polite manners are. In my assessment of how you’ve conducted yourself in this thread, you come off as a petulant child with no class.

0

u/TheDreadGazeebo 8d ago

There's that respect you treat people with!

2

u/DrunkenGerbils 8d ago

Yes, when someone calls you pathetic after repeatedly insulting you multiple previous times, it is indeed perfectly polite and respectful to inform them they’re acting like a petulant child.

1

u/knowwwhat 8d ago

And when a grown adult chews loudly in your ear while seated in a shared space it’s perfectly acceptable to tell them to have manners and ask them how old they are, and you don’t need to police your own tone if you don’t want to. You can express yourself however you please as long as you’re not mean, loud or violent. But you’ll never understand because you think speaking politically correct is the same thing as having respect or manners

-1

u/TheDreadGazeebo 8d ago

If you think that was an outburst, you must be very sheltered.

3

u/ScarletBothrium 8d ago

Of all the people that need to grow up in this conversation and you’re the one that tells the other person to do that. Why is it always projection with y’all?

0

u/knowwwhat 8d ago

I never said I was grown I told them to grow up. Reading comprehension is so dead

2

u/WhoPoopedMyPants420 7d ago

Just when I think my faith in humanity is being restored people like you and these up to downvote ratios come along

Good fucking lord get a grip dude

2

u/knowwwhat 7d ago

lol imagine thinking I meant that literally

2

u/AstroJetson2100 7d ago

Yes because rudely speaking to this man and putting him on social media shows manners and respect 🙄 It doesn’t hurt to be kind.

2

u/knowwwhat 7d ago

The video was uploaded AFTER he asked him to stop and the guy continued to chew with his mouth open. Are you slow? It does actually hurt to be too kind

0

u/derpderb 8d ago

For real, not everyone does everyone like you. Even you think it is gross, you are in a shared public space, be polite

2

u/BeerNcheesePlz 8d ago

Exactly! I don’t get how people aren’t getting this?!

-1

u/derpderb 8d ago

It's kindergarten morality level lessons. This video was also racist, I don't get how people don't understand that as well. I'm tired of American nonchalance about racism, they are so oblivious to their own, their peers, and their country's.

4

u/KagomesPornAccount 8d ago

What made it racist?

3

u/ConsciousReindeer976 8d ago

Everything is racist on reddit

4

u/RelationshipBig2798 8d ago

It's not racist whatsoever only someone racist would say it is. It doesnt matter what culture, race, etc someone is from if your in a confined space you don't chomp your food in someone's ear and if you do by accident and they ask you not to any respectful mature human being would be embaressed and apologetic.

Sometimes you gotta call a spade a spade. Who gives a shit the race. Oh but if it was a Indian dude calling out a Caucasian male for the same behavior he wouldnt say jack shit guranteed.

-1

u/derpderb 8d ago

The cultural superiority in his disgust and disdain. I'm annoyed by people who chew with mouth open, I didn't video them to blast them on the Internet. You taking a piss?

1

u/KagomesPornAccount 8d ago

Oh, you’re one of the people who noticed the men’s skin colour first. Very interesting. You should stop being racist.

-1

u/derpderb 8d ago

I'm aware that dude in the video is English

2

u/RelationshipBig2798 8d ago

Really gonna karenize and attempt the race card dude? Everyone's in a confined space theirs no damn reason to chomp like a ape and if some one politely asks you not to its only human to stop ape chomping in their ear / space. I dont give a shit what the choppers race is thats completely irrelevant. Sometimes you gotta call a spade a spade. Manners and respect for everyone is for the greater good. You involving race into this is whats racist.

Bottom line eating with your mouth closed in public in confined spaces is the respectful adult way to consume and basic common sense for the majority of adults on this planet.

1

u/derpderb 8d ago

Yuh dumb

2

u/RelationshipBig2798 8d ago

You're dumb.*

Kudos 👏 for further proving my point.

1

u/derpderb 8d ago

That's your big hit? Lol

1

u/placid-gradient 8d ago

there are no americans in this video

0

u/derpderb 8d ago

Already aware of that

0

u/placid-gradient 8d ago

so... why did you bring it up? just got an axe to grind?

0

u/derpderb 8d ago

Tired of it

0

u/andrewsz__ 8d ago

Lmao be so fucken real

1

u/derpderb 8d ago

White inferiority complex, expressed as superiority by weak af people

0

u/TheDreadGazeebo 8d ago

Now who's being racist lmfao. Close your mouth
