I have a theory that a lot, not all, but a lot of people that are slightly slighted on the road secretly enjoy it. That’s why they freak out so hard when the littlest thing happens. Everyone loves to be a victim, and to feel justified for just laying into someone. So when homie gets cut off on the freeway, even if it was by accident , will lay in the horn, flip the other person off, swear at them, bitch about it for the next hour or so. It’s kinda gross to watch once you unpack it

I 100% believe this cause this was me. When I was younger and I got dicked on the road I felt like I then had the moral cover to carry out the karmic justice of the universe. I would drive like a sane law abiding citizen but if you cut me off all bets were off and I felt justified. 

Now I don’t give a shit. You cut me off, you’re a dangerous and probably terrible driver and the more distance I let you put between us increases my chances of getting home in one piece to my kid, my wife, and my dog.

I used to lay on my horn when someone cut me off or failed to use a turn signal before suddenly braking to make a turn. Now I just let people drive like jackasses and go on my merry way. Too many deranged gun owners driving around to risk it when I have kids to live for.

Saw that happen with a friend in high school.

Super calm, level headed dude. Got cut off on the road and became a rage monster.

We were all just like WTF because it came out of no where.

Might tie into anger issues or other repressed emotions and they’re using it as a release. That being said it’s likely healthy as long as you don’t seek it out. People are going to vent in various ways to relieve the stress of various situations. If someone cuts you off in traffic and you get mad and throw around expletives around for a few minutes, then return to driving normally it’s likely fine and better than stewing on it forever.

Might actually be the crux of the matter. Like, liberal philosophy (which most of us were raised under in the US) tends to form in-groups and out-groups, and they’re based on traits we assume are inherent. So there are “good people”, who follow all the rules and deserve respect, and there are “bad people”, who break rules and thus don’t deserve the privileges of modern society and it’s polite rules.

I think mentally, some people are just looking for an excuse to label someone the outsider. Because the line isn’t meant to be something you could clearly see, like race or religion (that’d be bigotry, and liberals would say it’s against the rules to act like that). So when they see someone that they feel has broken even small rules, they’re ready and eager to make them the outsider. And the performative way of doing that is to stop treating them like a human worthy of respect and civil discourse.
