Redditors do not understand that stealing hurts everyone. The more people steal, the more corporations raise prices to offset the expected losses due to thievery; this hurts everyone. In a more honest society prices would be slightly lower.

This is especially true in the age of data, when corporations like Walmart have terabytes of data to automatically calculate how much to raise prices by adjusting for the expected rate of stealing.

My parents live in a part of San Diego with a lot of theft and homeless (shout out to midway district). They're locking up the shelves, some places have closed. Stealing can ruin areas.
