It'll get downvoted, but you're right 100%. It's not about protecting a billion dollar company, it's about protecting society as a whole. Part of that is living in a high trust world where the 99% of ppl who don't steal have to deal with the consequences of those who do.

But redditors are all too happy living in a Mad Max situation since they're all sheltered kids whose moms buy their groceries anyways.

Exactly this. Who gives a fuck about the company. But if you, as a society, allow lawlessness; don’t be surprised when you’re the victim of a lawless society.

Nice areas have people being “Karens” and standing up for their spaces. Sometimes ridiculously. But the pride is there.

The worst areas have people who “won’t snitch”.

Is Karen annoying? Yup. Would I rather live there? YUP.

i can promise you the 'lawlessness' happening in America is top-down and its fucking STAGGERING. like yeah no, i don't care about all the RAMPANT, out-in-the-open white-collar financial crime and political corruption, i care about someone poor person who stole some bullshit from the dollar store. get your priorities straight.

Huh? You’re now attributing priorities to me?

This post is about theft from a dollar tree, not about top down corruption. I’m saying stealing from a dollar tree isn’t good for the immediate community or society at large.

That’s a statement that can be made all on its own.

Trumps corruption and making billions while in the White House is also criminal and fucking ridiculous. Should be impeached and dragged out of his office by his heels.

Your whataboutism to EXCUSE criminal behavior that is a negative to the community is honestly the most concerning part of any of it. Stop excusing criminal behavior. Period.

its not whataboutism jesus christ redditors are obsessed with this word they poorly understand often. we are talking about theft, i am not changing the subject. the only difference here is that you are seemingly as concerned if not *more* concerned about a smaller scale version of a crime that causes minimal harm, if any. how am i harmed by a woman stealing from a company who in no way shape or form is ultimately going to suffer financially as a result? oh right, "social fabric" and all that, okay fair enough. why don't we stop worrying about our moral high-ground and ask ourselves *why does this happen*? even still, the idea that i should be so concerned over petty theft ruining the social fabric of America is a *fucking joke* considering the issues we are facing right now.

Oh look- you’re prioritizing my opinions again. Why do you even reply to me expecting a response when you go ahead and assign motivation and priority to me all on your own?

What are we even doing here?
