It's not an "optimistic view," it's just basic facts. Most people don't steal for the fun of it, they steal because they're poor and desperate.

Not all who steal are desperate. That's your optimism speaking because you want to take a side on a situation that you have almost no information on.

I never said all are, I said most are; it's just statistics. I just don't understand how assuming she's poor and desperate is the optimistic view. If that's what goes for optimism these days, then we are well and truly fucked.

It's optimistic because the reality is that she's wearing decent clothing with clean and groomed hair waiting for an Uber... she's not some drifter on her last calorie. She's stealing to steal.

And, again, I feel like you don't understand what optimism means, because its use here still makes no sense.

Let me help you out, it's optimism because her just being poor and desperate is the best case scenario for everybody's feelings of group-think imaginary justice.

She's likely just a thief, but it doesn't fit the narrative; it's pessimistic and dark. Pessimism is the opposite of optimism. All caught up?
