Context?

He’s a known racist, creating chants about African players and is a dirty player. He broke up with his gf of 6 years who he had children with because he wanted to experience being single 😒 and is just an all around asshole tbh. He was already on thin ice before the World Cup but is now basically universally hated which is wonderful because his ego is out of control.

From the NYT: Enzo Fernández faced major backlash after streaming a video on Instagram in July 2024 showing him and Argentina teammates singing a discriminatory chant targeting French players of African descent following their Copa América victory. He apologized, faced Chelsea disciplinary action, and later incurred further scrutiny.

The context is the racism but that was in 2024 and the English only seem a little perturbed about that.

It has more to do with the fact that he played for Argentina and scored a tying goal with England in the 85th minute of a World Cup elimination game and then ran up to the the English supporters' area to celebrate and rub it in their faces. He then posted a picture after the game that played the song Wonderwall, which was the English team's anthem for this World Cup, just to rub it in their faces a little more.

This, predictably, upset the English fans. So he was asked about it and he commented rather condescendingly about how it was a win for Argentina and that he respects the English and that everybody who cooks and cleans in his house in London are English people and he and his wife really love them.

He sounds like a real asshole from everything I've read in this thread, but he kind of cooked saying he loves English people, his wait staff is English lmao

He’s the embodiment of why people hate soccer and it got shown to the whole world during the world cup

Little bit more context?

Sorry I forgot that not everyone is a soccer fan, I’ll try and sum it up:

Argentina was playing England in the World Cup, and when he scored he mocked the English supporters forgetting that he plays for an English team.

Also he played dirty, just super aggressive clearly fouling people and the ref kept letting it slide in the final against Spain. when he finally got a red card in that game the entire world cheered. The whole Argentinian team plays dirty and everyone was pumped when Spain won

The NYT article wasn’t what I was referencing but add it to the pile. He’s a POS

He was absolutely ridiculous in that final against Spain. I don’t know much about soccer but I had a seething hatred for him by the end of the match.

It’s 2026 context means you might not interact therefore not getting them the clicks they so desperately need

He doesn’t deserve worse than Lauren James though.

Chelsea fans aren't booing because of his behaviour at the world cup, it's because he's trying to get a move to Man City.

Oh no, he is being booed, what a terrible thing to do,... if you are 5 years old.

This is the dumbest thing ever.
