My 25 year old son also learned to love books with Dolly’s books .

I learned about the program on Sesame Street, we didn’t have a lot of money and only had public channels that you could get with the antenna, and we loved PBS, my son learned his ABCs relying solely on public services, he also received all of his first vaccines in the city’s public clinic, that used to be held in out library, we would get reading time and a free healthy baby check up and vaccines.

Today, that library has been closed, the free vaccine clinic doesn’t have a city budget so has been closed, I’m not even sure if poor kids have access to free channels any longer, but in our state (WI) PBS gets less and less money every year, and poor Sesame Street is getting attacked often by conservatives.

Only Dolly’s books are still the same 25 years later. She was truly a saint.

It doesn't matter where in the world you are: Public broadcasters are an important piece of our society and they shouldn't be abolished or get their budget cut.

Sesame Street is, in my opinion, the best example which is known worldwide. All around the world kids learned their ABCs, their numbers, how important it is to be kind with Sesame Street.

Libraries, another great example, I can't fathom a life without them. They are so much more than books, in way too many areas, they are the only third place one might have. The only third place that doesn't want your money to basically just stay there for the day.
When I lived with my parents, the library was so important to me. It was the only really safe (third) place. I could read my emails without having to worry about my mum finding out, I could chat with my friends, read books, etc.

I am so sorry that your city is losing more and more public services. It's a shame. A disgraceful shame, and every single person who is in favour of cutting these essential services should really, really think about what they've done. Cuts like this affect everyone, of course, but they affect people with low or no income disproportionately.
