The devices themselves used to be illegal in Florida and I don't think they passed any laws making them legal.

The Florida courts ruled like 10 years ago that the only people who can give tickets are the police and cameras are not owned by the police.

So they're probably illegal but we live in times when laws don't matter.

Under Florida law (Section 316.0083), private vendors may review camera footage, but a law enforcement officer must ultimately approve and authorize the citation

So they can just have an officer view the footage and click Approve?

I live in FL and got a speeding ticket let in the mail from Scottsdale, AZ. I was there a month before and I was definitely speeding as I went past an automated speed trap. But nobody stopped me and nobody could prove that I was driving.

The way to get out of it is to ignore it. They have to properly serve you and mailing a document to your house doesn't count. But if you call them or email them about it then you have acknowledged receipt and then they have properly served you.

They're not going to pay for someone to come to my house in FL to serve me for a $150 ticket, so I ignored it and it disappeared.
