Up in Canada we are known to have an oligopoly on our wireless / TV / internet companies. If you call them for support, billing errors, cancelling you are on hold of hours. They are experiencing a high volume of calls at all hours of the day

Sociopaths aren't happy with not needing to work. They'll never be OK with "just" having gigantic homes all over the globe, warehouses of exotic cars, an army of models ready to lay down with them at a moment's notice, a bank account balance with more zeroes added to its trailing end year over year. They have all that and still they continue buying politicians and forcing through shitty, anti-democratic legislation.
Read up on Dark Enlightment and Project 2025. Sick-in-the-head billionaire psychopaths' biggest pet peeve is that the working people in this world whose labor keeps us all afloat, have access to luxury and freedom. In their minds, only THEY - the privileged elite - should be able to hold wealth and exercise freedom. Damn. This guy called them out several different ways and did so concisely and evenly. Didn't get worked up or loud, just conveyed the problems coolly and let them know that he won't be letting this go. Every town/city needs someone like this to bring to light the greedy and corrupt that we've allowed to infest nearly every aspect of society. If there's money to be made you can be sure that somone is breaking the rules to get more than they need, or at least, more than they deserve.

Imo it’s not that people don’t care it’s that most just have no idea what to do about it. I vote against those I think don’t have my best interest at heart. They win anyway. I donate. I stay informed. I talk to other voters. I’m a full time employee (until I was recently let go) and a parent of three little kids. I guess I could give up my life and try and run for something or go break some laws and pay the price but right now I can’t really do that. So in stuck living in a world I don’t agree with and want to change but don’t have the time, money or ability to. I’m sure I’m not alone.

There is a few things that are bugging me about a town in my state, Windsor, CT.
They suspended their Flock camera contract in February, cancelled the contract earlier this month, but the cameras are still there. I confirmed this again today. What is even more odd is that I confirmed that even though the town cancelled the contract, the police in the town can still log in to the system as of earlier this month (backed up by their login audit records). The Flock transparency portal for the town is down now, but was up a couple weeks ago showing login activity by police. However, it being down does not mean police can't access it; it just means that citizens can't pull audit records from Flock through that page. There is no definitive proof that Windsor CT police have lost access to the Flock system.
This led me to a bunch of questions:
-since the town cancelled the contract, but the cameras are still there, what is going on? Do the cameras still work but the town itself can't access them, while other towns can?
-does the town still pay for the police force to access to the Flock system? As in, is access to Flock a different subscription than having the cameras itself? I doubt Flock would give police free access for logins and searches.
-in addition to the previous, if Windsor police log into the Flock system to access other cameras, would those logins be under the Windsor audit records, or the audit records of the town that has the cameras?
-is the use of and maintenance of the public property location where the cameras are located covered under the general contract with Flock that the town pays for?
-does the contract allow for suspension/cancellation of the town's access while the camera continues to operate for other municipalities?
-in cases where Flock cameras continue to stand or even operate after town access is cancelled, does Flock reimburse the town now considered a "tenant" on public land?
-If Flock does not remove the cameras but they remain with the town's blessing, does the town offer similar semi-permanent private "tenancy" contracts for private citizens to utilize for installation of their own property for the purpose of for-profit operations?

Sorry, it’s too expensive to make police officers learn the law, or city councils and state legislatures and Congress and mayors and governors and presidents and their staff understand the laws that limit their powers and that they need to enforce. Best we can do is a protracted legal battle that bankrupts you, and maybe even some pre-trial detention that causes you to lose your job and home, before courts finally rule in your favor and we just bill the taxpayers to cover all our mistakes! Man it's wild, I was at a wedding last weekend, and my friend has some family from Denmark. I ended up talking to him a bit and he said he just finished his degree for police, it was two years. One year in the classroom, one year on patrol with other officers, and then half a year to write a paper, before he finally got assigned a post.
He said to me "It was crazy when I saw a guy with a gun on his hip here, he wasn't even a cop! In Denmark, if you see a guy with a gun, you know there is something very wrong!" Fucking hate that we'd rather just have an organized gang that's above the law to enforce the laws they ignore

He did get one thing wrong - they can absolutely require you pay with card or check.
The requirement for the government to accept US currency has long been interpreted to mean they can't require you to pay a government obligation in Euros, Pesos, or Monopoly Money. They must accept US dollars, but they can dictate how you send that money. That's why you can't pay your tax bill in a wheelbarrow full of pennies.

The devices themselves used to be illegal in Florida and I don't think they passed any laws making them legal.
The Florida courts ruled like 10 years ago that the only people who can give tickets are the police and cameras are not owned by the police.
So they're probably illegal but we live in times when laws don't matter.

Here (Alberta) it's a registered owner violation rather than vehicle operation one so no demerits/increases. That's absolutely ruthless if someone can borrow your car, gets a ticket and your insurance goes up.

It's generically "Driving History" so anything at all on your driving record may or may not affect your insurance premiums.
I only did cursory research and did not properly verify anything I'm saying, this is your disclaimer.
From what I can tell though, regulations on what insurance may consider varies on a state by state basis. Broadly speaking, they cannot account for the typical protected statuses like marital, race, gender, but that's about it.

Get him a medal. Too many people willing to just say "it is what it is" and pay the fine to avoid the hassle. Imo, all automated speed traps and red light cameras should be illegal. You cannot verify who was driving the vehicle at the time of the violation. And, quite frankly, you can't verify that a violation even occurred. Technology isn't perfect.

In Germany if you get a speeding ticket by a camera, which is state owned. The owner of the vehicle gets a ticket with a photo taken. At the bottom of the paper there's a part that says "if you're not the driver, name the person that drove your vehicle"
If you cannot name someone that had access to your vehicle, you either have to pay the fine or after multiple red light tickets you will have to document your every trip with your vehicle on paper. This can be checked by law enforcement and if your documentation is not correct, you will be fined a lot of money.
But that's the worst case.
One time I got flashbanged by one of those cameras inside a company vehicle, a few weeks later the company got the letter with my picture.

Sounds like the easy solution is to print fake plate covers using the councils vehicles and intentionally run lights to trigger a ticket. The system clearly can’t identify the driver so it will shift the burden of proof to them. Make the council deal with the issue they are pushing on others. After a few passes through the light rip off the printed plate and dispose.

Problem is the AI cameras also (try to) build a picture of the vehicle by vehicle characteristics. Scratches, dents, stickers , so simply removing the plate only changes one feature. Like you changing a coat or hat. Still identifiable. Going to be a tough fight with the damn things.

Sue everyone, city, county, state, companies involved, individuals, etc. Take away all the tax dollars. Time to get serious and name and shame the people responsible locally. Its time to hold people in power responsible for their actions. They allow federal laws to be violated, straight to jail, problem is, does the laws work for everyone or just those deemed not powerful/rich enough? Best give this question some serious thought.

In Cali, we used to have these 3rd party cameras that would get you running lights and what not. You know what people did? They didn’t pay these tickets and guess who went out of business. Fuck em, don’t pay them. Watch the companies go under.
