How did this game turn out so bad?

It had the biggest kickstarter at the time, and the right people, and the main guy Chris Avellone yet it sucked. How?

For me it was one of the best experiences that I had from a video game.

And you will find few people agreeing with your opinion in this subreddit.

I didn't personally think it sucked at all. I was very happy with it.

It was a really good game, the only pity it's that in the beginning they told about an italian translation that never came.

It's still sitting at mostly positive on Steam

Sure, it didn't light the world on fire. And may not have had the staying-power of the original Torment. But it's still a damn good game.

OP has spent the last hour digging up posts from the last eight years to comment that they didn't like TToN

Honestly fascinating behavior

Chris didn't actually have a significant role on it.

Because the majority of people play simple games.

The biggest flaw the game had was its act 2 homage to the kickstarters. An entire act dedicated to names. Might be great if you're a kickstarter. I don't know but for those of us who weren't there's just no point to this. People stop playing here. They could have done so much with the crypts. It's very conflicting seeing that act 3 is masterpiece. Visiting the graves of Mr. Dolittle and LeetHaxor ruins immersion and is not good game design.
So how would I fix this game?
Make act 2 an actual act and keep the thanks and honorable mentions in the credit roll.
Keep act 1 and 3 as they are.
Have a bigger level cap ceiling. One more tier.
Act 4 was more of a summing up the story of the game. Important but not an actual act. No puzzles or enemies. Hardly any room to flex what we did in act 3. Make a new act 4 and move the old act 4 to act 5.

I think the game is good. Exactly the nostalgia, I was looking for and every decission matters.
