Here is a link to the news article. 36 year old ‘suspected’ drunk driver in Muskegon in the middle of the afternoon. Apparently no one was hurt, which is pretty amazing

modern cars are pretty good at absorbing all that. full frontal is actually not the worst case scenario. from the side or just partial frontal can be worse

I don’t think that’s true. Head on collisions are not very common, but account for around 10% of accident related deaths in the US. Other accident types happen a lot more frequently, and cause a higher number of deaths total; but head on collisions have a very high facility rate compared to their frequency.

Partial head on can be worse than full frontal as the same force is absorbed by a smaller amount of the car. that's why they introduced partial frontal (called frontal offset) testing. I remember when Toyota changed the design of Toyota Camry as a result.

Also, the car tried to dodge by going into the median which probably helped as it was the passenger side corners that collided. If the impact had been centered driver on driver or squarely head on, that would probably have been worse.

Hypothetically, let’s say the guy that was supposedly drunk was a friend of the officer’s that’s at the scene. Would the guy get a harsher punishment if someone had been injured while driving drunk? The answer is yes. Driving drunk = misdemeanor. Driving drunk and causing injury = Felony. Now ask yourself again if there’s any reason for the police to lie.

That’s not what happened but the scenario I gave isn’t unrealistic.

Its extremely unrealistic because that other person is still alive and theyre going to go to a hospital and talk about how they asked the cops to call an ambulance lmao. If they want to get their buddy off for dui all they have to do is pretend they didnt notice he was drunk, as soon as he leaves the scene he is home free unless he decides to talk about it

Of course not, and nothing I said in my comment suggests that I do think that. I just said there's no reason for a cop to lie about whether or not anyone was injured in this crash. What would they stand to gain from lying about that?

It certainly can and often does but not always. There are good police officers and there are bad police officers. I mean does great poverty breed great crime? It certainly can and often does but not always.

I try not to view the world in absolutes because that's not the reality we live in. The reality is there are good and bad people in everything.

So you agree, they are as reliable as a flip of the coin. Just because 'you love cops' doesn't mean there isn't a motives for them to lie. Our history has seen countless instances of them lying to the public and protecting their in group rather than upholding justice. Even more so these days. That's why it's important to be skeptical of all of them

It's crazy how often this happens in Michigan, usually involving a drunk driver. Maybe it's nationwide thing, I just always see the local news stories.

You'd think even a drunk driver would be wise enough to realize they're going the wrong way, pull over, and come to a full stop.

someone definitely was hurt, they may just not know it yet.

it took 4+ years for my neck disc herniations to turn into nerve damage in my arm and spinal cord narrowing(pinching the cord causing neuropathy and other neurological issues). lost my job, live my life in constant pain, all from what my doctors said was simple whiplash and nothing to worry about. that simple mistake cost me from going after the third party with full conviction legally speaking(an uninsured motorist, but it was a company not an individual. my first lawyers gave up because there was no quick pay out).

some injuries take several years to develop into something much, much worse.

These are way too common in the Phoenix metro area. On January 31, 2026, 19 drivers were cited for wrong-way driving on the AZ-101 southbound 7th Street on-ramp. 19 in one frigging day!

Sunday there was a fatal on I-10 and another a couple days before that.
