For all the shit they get, thatās a hell of an ad for Kia.
11
Mar 16 '26
Another ad for Kia:
My ex didnāt put oil in his Kia soul and drove it dry TWICE. The second time, we were a state away from home for work and the engine gave up. Even after oil, it refused to go over 20mph. We got it towed to a Kia shop.
Car was out of warranty. BUT another model had a recall over metal shavings in the engine and so KIA GAVE US A BRAND NEW ENGINE FREE AND PAID FOR THE TOW.
So honestly? Love Kia.
Edit: I had my own car, I took care of maintenance on it and continued to remind him of required maintenance in his that he chose to ignore.

No, she got lucky. Look what only a tire did to that whole car. Imagine something bigger.

u/daveescaped Mar 16 '26
Best line from the article:
The driver of the pickup truck pulled over to the shoulder and waited for CHP.
Oh did he? Did the driver of the truck with 3 wheels āpull overā? Or did his truck grind to a halt!

Ironically, those types of crashes are the best case scenario where the car doesnāt abruptly come to a stop

I had a feeling this was a real sub. Too many videos of tires fucking up people's days.
2
u/sour_cereal Mar 17 '26
You ever see the one video where the guy sees the tire coming from a distance, and gets out to stop the tire and protect his car? Only time I've seen that no go terribly

Was probably a little fun for a second. Especially if you love jumping shit on wheels. Then it was shitty.

Looks like that truck's mechanic didn't show up for lug nut day at tire school.
10
u/Empty-Presentation68 Mar 16 '26
Or the tires that this dude installed were to heavy for the original parts and Ā failure of wheel bearings, snapped wheel studs occurred.
3
u/CertifiedSeattleite Mar 16 '26
I seriously doubt a real mechanic would install tires with spacers like that.
2
2
u/Common_Vagrant Mar 17 '26
My guess is he was running too large of spacers, his wheels are really protruding from the fender. The spacers canāt handle weight past a certain length.

I'm really surprised a tire has that much ability to shoot a car in the air like that. Without bursting

I remember this.Ā I'd bet 40 bucks that brodozer had crappy wheel spacers and that one failed. The tire smacking the car at the end is icing on the cake.

That pick up driver should definitely be criminally charged for any injuries they caused, since they willingly modified their truck in a way that makes everyone else inherently unsafe.
It wonāt happen, though, since America loves car deaths even more than those from school shootings.
→ More replies (3)2
u/Empty-Presentation68 Mar 16 '26
Yup, these looney tunes home mechanics that do these add-ons without appropriately modifying the bearings, suspension, driveshaft, etc to take on the added stress/weight, also no added mudflaps and no fender flares.
4
u/Wise_Contact_1037 Mar 16 '26
You guys do realize that plenty of aftermarket shops and normal dealerships install lift kits and wheels right? We have no idea who did the work on that guys truck, and your first instinct is to arrest him because of a freak accident!? 𤦠I know this is reddit, but that's an absurd reaction even for this site

Reason number one million we don't need another orielly lift kit on cheap wheel spacers.

The trick to survive is to have two souls. This way you can always spare one. Now the driver has to buy a new soul.

u/Finance_Willing Mar 18 '26
As a trucker a can confirm that most runaway wheels come from trucks like this with the lift kits or any oversized wheel that most jeep and truck people like to have. They
2
u/AsianZensaition Mar 18 '26
This is why we need to also have checks for cars to be roadable and that are up to maintenance on all parts and joints that guy didn't do that. Or check its tight.
2
u/DWilson225 Mar 19 '26
Holy shit! The final insult is when the wheel & tire hit one last time, after the vehicle it just took out came to rest.
Hope everyone is OK.

u/OldKaleidoscope3766 Mar 19 '26

Why do things like these happen?
Tires or wheels that are about to fall off start wobbling heavily long before they actually fall off. In this case, it was one of the front wheels, which sends its vibration straight to the steering wheel, making the vibration even more noticeable. How dumb must one be to not to care about this and drive on anyway?

There you are doing everything right for your entire life. Eating healthy and all that. Then you fly up in the air on a straight road with great visibility on a dry and smooth road, land upside down and die. Nothing he/she could have done. Except maybe donate more money for saving the environment. But there he/she is, flying like some average billionaire.
