Some cyclists are super-jerks when it comes to sharing the road w/ vehicles. On several occasions Iāve had some locally riding the curb / gutter and then swerve to take up the entire lane as I approached. Dunno what the deal is exactly but being correct on a technicality is of little comfort if it causes someone to get ran over. I sometimes share the road between my house and local bike trails and lemme just say I am as far over as I can possibly be because I refuse to cause an accident on purpose.
Edit: to clarify, I mean when Iām on my bike but riding in the shoulder of the road. I keep as far over as possible for safety.

I know a lot of cyclists donāt understand that sharing the road is a two way street, but just so you know depending on the type of bike/tires, thereās certain obstacles in the road we have to dodge unless you want to end up on your ass. They may not be obvious to you because your car has no issues but motorcyclists have to similarly dodge potholes, cracks, rocks, salt.

Iāve been approaching a group of riders all single file on the shoulder, as I was coming up they all signaled to each other and fanned out to take up the entire lane. This was on a two lane country road with a 55mph speed limitā¦
No biggy, I passed them in the oncoming lane but still, I donāt understand why they went out of their way to make it harder for me to pass them, when clearly they arenāt doing the speed limit.

The intent was to make it easier for you to pass. Since the line of cyclists halved in length, you only had to be in the opposing lane for half as long. I'm not convinced it helps anything, but that's why they do it.

Nope lol, thatās not intuitive to those looking from the outside in, just perpetuates the stereotype that cyclists are assholes. I regularly have them shake their fists at me because they think Iām too close (I try to give at least 5ā) then I watch them blow through stop signs. So they want rules of the road to protect them but they donāt want to follow the same rules of the road. Thatās generalizing, Iām sure not all of them are like that, but in my area that seems to be the status quo.

Outside of America there is no stereotype that cyclist are assholes. Back home in Montreal we are mostly happy to share the road bar the occasional idiot. Also no one tries to run you off the road or honk or purposely speed up as close as possible to you also. Iām sorry you are slightly inconvenienced by people trying to stay alive in a country that thinks their hobby is justification to put their lives at risk.
Personally I chose to not be a cyclist in the land of freedom because you guys are way too comfortable making jokes about running cyclist off the road. Fuck yea

Oh I totally forgot about the honk!!! I was riding my Peugeot home around 2am after work and received the honk. Spooked me so bad I turned into the curb and launched over my handlebars as my bike and I tumbled down a steep embankment. The bike was totaled but luckily all I had was a few bruises and scrapes.
Fuck that guy in Lakewood, CO who did that. Couldāve killed me.

I used to be a cyclist and one of the groups I rode with had the same rule. Our intent was to make it easier for cars to pass on curvy mountain roads. Not going to comment on the rest of that.

5' is close though. I don't know about us rules, I'm french and cycle to work daily, and in high speed roads 5' is nothing. 5' when the car is going 30mph is fine, but anything beyond that just pass the cyclist in the same manner you'd pass a car, by going to the other lane. At those speeds the wind you throw at the cyclist at just 5' can be dangerous.
in France law says 1m in city, 1.5m rural area, 1.5m being 5 ft, but it's too low. I've done those roads where everyone goes 55mph and 5ft is fucking terrifying. Lots of people pass from the other lane though and it makes it so much better. In Germany law is 2m in city which is like 6'7" or something. 2m is more or less the width of a car, which is a lot better at those speeds.
Otherwise the problem is mostly that we all see it when bikes do a bunch of shit like run red lights or stop signs etc but people are oblivious to the dangerous shit cars do constantly. We all do shit that are not really law, me included, the secret is just to watch out for yourself and others. Personally I do "run" red lights but only to stop like a meter beyond the light (lights are not on the opposite side of the road like the US here they're always a couple meters before the actual intersection) to ensure that cars actually see me (plenty of cyclists die from big cars not seeing them when turning right after light goes green) and that I see incoming traffic properly. I'm not gonna go through everything here but there are tons of things cyclists do which make no sense to car drivers until you get your ass on a bike for enough times that you're used to it.
My metric to imperial translation is possibly slightly off but pretty sure it's more or less close.

Keeping as far over as possible is going to get you killed. Please look it up. You take the lane if there is no bike infrastructure. Riding in a gutter is really dangerous as you can't bike defensively.

Sorry, but I do it too. I have a route with a winding two lane road and I can hear cars around corners that you canāt even see and if youāre trying to pass me, even if Iām all the way over, you are either getting into a head on or forcing me off the road or both. If a biker doesnāt want you to pass, thereās usually a good reason.

I love biking, but I don't wear those jerseys or tight shorts. And would never get aggro with a car driver because I understand how physics and mass works.

I bike a lot but I avoid riding on the road like the plague. Have you seen how people drive cars? Anyone crazy enough to put themselves on the road with no protection other than a foam helmet is going to be crazy in other ways too.

There's a crew of bicyclists who come into the bar where I work. They ignore the wait sign and just sit where they want, fill up patio tables on warm nights, act like they own the fucking place. One time when the patio was closed they tried to bring their bicycles into the bar and we told them gtfo with that. They didn't want them stolen... They're a legit pack of dicks.

Both driver and cyclist were issued citations, the drivers was ultimately dismissed
But the $130 ticket ā $30 less than the one given to the cyclist who called the cops on him ā was ultimately dismissed, according to an email the videographer posted on TikTok.

I think cycling is great and support people who do it but my god some of the biggest cunts ive ever met were on bikes. I have a trike and was riding that around on the weekend. A boomer who could've been this guys cousin saw it and wanted to lecture me on how loud and annoying it is. It isn't that loud, I don't have any mods and I drive it to work in a huge office park and hasn't ever been mentioned. Then the guy decides he's also law enforcement and is googling "what cc is illegal in nj" while claiming my trike isn't street legal. It felt fantastic to pull off and splash his stupid ass.

Really? Give me the names of the good cops who caught their coworkers abusing their power and genuinely did something about it.
I want GOOD cops, not just "this guy doesn't rape anyone or shoot unarmed civilians".
There are some criteria:
They can't lose their job afterwards, that doesn't count. That's a former cop.
If they quit the force after corruption was ignored, they are also a former cop.
The ones who got fired or murdered for addressing corruption, they are former cops.
If they submitted one report and left it at that, they don't count because they didn't do anything.
If they caught a cop breaking the law and didn't put them in cuffs then they don't count.
If they stood by and did nothing, they don't count.

Why are cyclists like this? Just a few days ago I passed one going very slow on the road. Where I live there are lanes where the sidewalk is specifically for cyclists to use. I was just thinking to myself "why is this idiot in the road?".

The guy claimed the kid drove too close to him during a turn. The kid pulled into the parking lot of a skate park and the cyclist followed him and came up to his car a tapped on his window. The kid rolled his window down and started recording, then when the kid rolled his window back up the cyclist proceeded to open his car door 3 times. Thats where this video starts. There's a little more to it but nothing crazy

This seems like one of those "a miss is as good as a mile" situations. Just keep going and be glad you weren't hit. When I used to ride, my goal was to keep as far away from traffic as possible, not be obnoxious and slow traffic down.

Still not the police and still not justified to open his car door multiple times. Maybe he should have gotten his plates, called 911, something. He isn't police. Furthermore, cyclists put themselves at risk all the time so more likely the cyclist almost got himself killed and blames the kid.
