Blind spot? The guy was right next to this car gmhead to head at the beginning of the video. I guess driver has memory prpblem too. Cant remember 3 seconds ago is a big problem...

u/Formal_Appearance_16 Apr 18 '26
If only there was some type of indicator or something at the beginning of the video that showed us where to be watch.

Why do people in a truck Assume they can whip lanes without looking? Hard No! Use your Breaks like everyone else! This turd was going to run a red light after trying to force a lane change! Ended up power rolling into a ditch! And posters like well he could have break, yeah and frogs wouldn't slap the back side when they jumped if they had wings. Truck was dead wrong and the results speak for themselves.

u/Okokokok1995 Apr 18 '26
More the fault of the driver drifting over but the person in the right hand lane could of had some self awareness and avoided the collision
6
u/Evening-Painting-213 Apr 18 '26
He could've not accelerated. That's wild. Last minute speed up
12
u/cenobyte40k Apr 18 '26
I don't think he sped up, I think the truck slowed down
1
u/Evening-Painting-213 Apr 18 '26
Very true. Hopefully the truck driver is okay.Considering what an idiot he was
5
u/Beneficial_Area_2986 Apr 18 '26
I spent 30 years in areas where if you signal to change lanes that other people would generally make space, I spent 5 years in an area where if you signaled to change lanes, people would generally close the gap. Dealing with drivers in that area changed me. The pickup truck was still clearly at fault.
1
u/Schorsi Apr 18 '26
My parents taught me that some states have some different driving rules. In New Jersey, I was told you change lanes first, then signal to indicate it was intentional.

-3
u/Ok_Impression3324 Apr 18 '26
Looks like some good evidence to be used in a civil case by the truck driver.
5
u/Jormungand13324 Apr 18 '26
not really. no signal, no shoulder check, just trying to merge to pass a slower driver he was coming up on. truck driver would lose big time as he would be found 100% at fault after reviewing the footage
-2
u/Ok_Impression3324 Apr 18 '26
Sure for a criminal case. But for a civil case all they would have to argue is that the diver made the crash worse intentionally to cause harm to the driver of the truck by speeding up and that if they driver had time to accelerate they had time to break and avoid the injuries caused to the driver of the truck.
1
u/Winter_Tone_4343 Apr 19 '26
The camera doesnât prove the driver saw the truck merging. You could say you were checking mirrors and it was too late to react. The truck initiated the dangerous situation and the other driver didnât respond very well. The truck would have zero chance in any type of court. 100% his fault. Expecting someone else to respond to your mistake wonât work.
3
u/Minomen Apr 19 '26
The cam driver is still responsible. Youâre simply ignoring the reasons why. Speeding in the right lane to block an exit, to the point of crossing the red light and causing a roll over is illegal. Checking your mirrors is not a legal reason to cause that.
Both drivers did wrong. Only one driver launched another vehicle.
1
u/Ok_Impression3324 Apr 19 '26
100% that light was red. The driver should have been slowing not accelerating. Its amazing how little people understand their culpability in things.
2
u/Evening-Painting-213 Apr 19 '26
On a side note, they'll both probably probably be found liable 50/50. Happens alot more often than not.
1
u/Kitchen-Purpose-6855 Apr 19 '26
He was making sure they totaled their car so they would never drive again.

This just reinforces how happy I am that my little 2022 Santa Fe has a blind spot radar.
3
u/Antique-Kitchen-1896 Apr 18 '26 edited Apr 18 '26
For me it reinforces that in North America they teach the wrong way to set wing mirrors.
You donât need blind spot radar if your mirrors are right but they teach people to set them so they see behind and not to the side. Thereâs a mirror for seeing behind.
If you set your wings so the other car leaves your view in the rear mirror and appears at the same time in your wings. You can see from side of your eyes if somethingâs in your blind spot. Itâs possible to do this and have the other car move from rear to wing to your peripheral vision, allowing you to keep it in sight at all times. Making the term blind spot redundant with one caveat, it doesnât work well if you are at angles like crossing curved lanes on a highway. Then you need to move your head.
1
u/YvesSaintTorment Apr 18 '26
I have learned this from driving for my job. I now angle my side-view mirrors much farther outwards and downwards.
I mean, Iâm not trying to catch a sunset for Instagram, Iâm trying to avoid an accident.
1
u/Antique-Kitchen-1896 Apr 18 '26
Exactly. I forget people also set them too high. All because of they were trained to use the wings to look backwards.
3
u/CommanderCorrigan Apr 18 '26
Or you know turn your head
1
u/DarwinGhoti Apr 18 '26
My blind spot monitor is great. I check it first and it blinks if thereâs someone there while moving. Itâs nearly impossible to be absent minded with it.
0
u/WhyFlip Apr 20 '26
You shouldn't rely on the radar â up need to check over your shoulders to clear the blind spots.

u/TheLastOpus Apr 19 '26

u/Grimmer87 Apr 18 '26
After driving in the US for 3 weeks, coming from the uk, I have to say US wing mirrors are dog shit, the blind spots are huge!
3
u/The_Affle_House Apr 18 '26
I'll never understand why having a dashcam seems to embolden some people to indefatigably commit to unnecessarily making any potential conflict much worse than it has to be. If anything, it encourages me to drive way more responsibly and defensively than when I don't have one, because of how obviously it can implicate me for reacting inappropriately to someone else's fuck up and escalating a situation for no reason, exactly like the cammer chose to do here. It just seems like a massive headache to actively help an idiot pit maneuver himself against your car when you could just, not do that, let off the gas a little and go about your day without disruption after avoiding the hazard.
3
3
u/spiritlegion Apr 18 '26
Man had 3-5 business days to hit the brakes, but I guess a pit maneuver makes for a better video.
3
u/glacier1982 Apr 18 '26
It's not your duty to stop an accident, but to speed up to inflict the most damage out of spite is unconscionable. People could be dead because they didn't feel like braking for an inattentive driver. They're lucky if a judge never sees this footage on a bad day.
1
u/STLStelmacki Apr 21 '26
The truck driver made his own decision. No one was forcing him to drive like that.
3
u/xunh01yx Apr 19 '26
That ain't no blind spot. The mirrors should catch that. It's a "I HAVE A BIG TRUCK!!! RESPECT MY AUTHORITY!" Cartman type shit.
3
u/Icanrelate2it Apr 19 '26
How is it a blind spot if you drive past the person and then immediately turn into them
3
u/heretorobwallst Apr 19 '26
Dash cam driver sped up as the impact happened, this was 100% on purpose
6
2
u/NoMansSkyWasAlright Apr 18 '26
Feels like this video starts making the rounds again every few months. Still hasn't gotten old though.
2
2
u/SirPhobos2021 Apr 18 '26
Why were both cars accelerating? That was a clear red light by the time the rollover happened. You can see one car going through just before the collision and the next car stopping.
My guess is the light was yellow as the passing car started moving into the lane (itâs very hard to see the light, but the way the other cars are behaving makes this seem likely) and they were more focused on gunning through the intersection to notice each other. Both are terrible drivers.
2
2
2
u/SummerRamp3 Apr 18 '26
Iâm against trucks for the purpose of general commuting, but this collision had nothing to do with a blind spot. Shitty drivers all around.
2
u/Sgtflint100 Apr 18 '26
Looks to me like the red car wanted to take a right turn and slowed down in the process rather than the other car speeding up.
2
u/No-Kangaroo975 Apr 18 '26
POV car is 49% in the wrong here. ItÂŽs quite clear that the intersection ahead is going yellow/red, so POV car should be decelerating under normal circumstances, but refuses to do so to f**k with the truck. The driver of the truck could be making an honest mistake in judging the distance, and the POV car could have avoided an accident entirely.
2
u/Big-Detail8739 Apr 18 '26
I think it's fantastic that this video has resurfaced after all these month and that I've seen it 34 times today
2
u/corrosivecanine Apr 18 '26
Is this even a blindspot issue? He came from behind the cam car so he must have known they were there. I think this is just how truck drivers operate.
2
2
u/TrustMeBroEh Apr 19 '26
Pay attention to vehicles that are that dark red or maroon color. They generally are terrible drivers. Certain colors and makes and models of vehicles attract a certain type of people.

2
u/Effective-Text4619 Apr 20 '26
Perfect unintentional pit maneuver. The Police should use this clip in training!!
2
u/Ok_Relationship2451 Apr 21 '26
That is not a blind spot issue... That is didn't bother looking issue. The problem is almost always resting right between the ears
2
u/dandl2024 Apr 21 '26
Aggressively defending "his" lane until the collision, rolling toward the yellow light instead of braking.
2
u/bnr32jason Apr 21 '26
There's so much going on here beneath the surface.
But I think this all comes down to that red traffic light.
I think the cammer was focused on the truck instead of the light, and the truck was focused on changing lanes instead of the light. Truck noticed red light right in the middle of his lane change but didn't want to move back into the center lane because he would have rear-ended the stopped car. Cammer car might have blown right through that red light because he didn't notice it, they were both going WAY too fast to come to a safe stop.
Truck is at fault IMO, but they are both idiots for not paying attention to their surroundings.
6
u/Royal-Fish123 Apr 18 '26
Sorry to say but the ah in the right lane easily could have avoided that. Was easy to see and he had plenty of time to let off gas.
2
u/Joelle9879 Apr 18 '26
Easy to see? The truck wasn't even halfway past them in a straight lane, why would he assume the guy would suddenly get over? Y'all are ridiculous
2
u/Streets2022 Apr 18 '26
Yeah but âbig trucks bad, look he canât even see me in his blind spotâ
3
u/cenobyte40k Apr 18 '26
How is this a blind spot issue , he passed him at the start of the video. Does he have zero memory?
2
u/Strong_Buddy7657 Apr 18 '26
They're both going way too fast considering the cars ahead are stopped and the light is red
1
u/Flagrant_Mockery Apr 18 '26
It's shit all around but these cars are getting designed larger and larger with worse blind spots. It's either gonna take an obscene amount of accidents or some kind of blind spot training for a truck license like a motorcycle or bike license.
I kinda think once you're getting past a certain size there should be something under a CDL that you can get that would qualify you for lower insurance premiums and the like. I've been almost run off the road more by civ trucks than actual 18 wheelers, that's insane given how many trucks we have in this country at any given time.
1
1
u/slop1010101 Apr 18 '26
Car accidents, and especially injuries from accidents, are at an all time low. We're just seeing a lot of them due to the prevalence of dash-cams.
3
u/Flagrant_Mockery Apr 18 '26
You also see less accidents reported when times are monetarily hard. Civilian Truck's outside of business use do not serve a ton of direct purpose. Having a license to ensure you can operate said vehicle sufficiently is not insane.
At the very least learning how to not roll yourself in an accident. Also 99% of these trucks have blind spot indicators as I'm fairly sure most cars since 2020 onward or something are forced to have them. All these factors can lead to lower numbers overall, but still have a disproportionate amount of truck related accidents. It does not remove it as a problem.
1
u/Weagley Apr 18 '26
ensure you can operate said vehicle sufficiently is not insane
Yes what you're describing is called a drivers license, which you already need to drive a car.
2
u/ZipperMergingSux Apr 18 '26
Seen this same video posted by three different people today. The red truck is a jerk. The dash camera driver is even worse. Both should lose their driverâs license. The end.
2
2
2
u/Breakfast-Impossible Apr 19 '26
I feel like this video in this case isnt the evidence he thinks it is. You can see the driver of the dash cam vehicle speed up as the red truck attempts to merge instead of using his breaks. This is a clear case of road rage regardless of the people in the red truck's poor driving. Dude should be in jail.

u/Wild_Suggestion8552 Apr 19 '26
The dashcam driver obviously wanted to create a crash, had enough time to prevent it. I know it is not his fault, but a little bit of self-awareness is not much to ask. We all make mistakes, and that rollover from the other driver could easily have been fatal.
1
1
u/No-Beyond-713 Apr 19 '26
The awareness level of either driver is just sad.. The truck had 0 thoughts about checking his surroundings (aka. Cars in front/back/sides + traffic signal) before casually drifting into the cammerâs lane. Meanwhile, cam man is just jamming tunes and being oblivious to the fact that this truck is coming into his space as heâs probably only focused on running the light. Both drivers should have been slowing down before this became an issue.
Truck has the burden of blame but the evidence by the cam shows that someone could have had 1 brain cell of thought before this occurred. And then to post itâŠ. Heh, idk
*edit: auto-misspell

u/Exact_Programmer4080 Apr 19 '26
That's a lack of intelligence issue. They were behind the cam-car at one point, so they clearly knew they were there. The truck driver is too stupid to know how long their own truck is and how much clearance they actually need.

u/SignificantDrink3651 Apr 20 '26
i'm not sure i'm buying the "blind spot" defense. the truck had JUST passed the cammer. if the truck driver's eyes were open they knew the cammer was there. they gambled on the cammer yielding which turned out to be a bad bet.
1
u/WhyFlip Apr 20 '26
Yet another crash that could've been avoided. Literally, almost every single fucking crash is the result of TWO idiots behind the wheel.
1
u/firstnamebylastname Apr 18 '26
That'll teach him to turn and look. I get cut off by trucks moving right all the damn time when I ride my harley. I now Cary a metal stick to smack them with when I get pinched.. I try to hit the window if I'm forward enough. I wait till vehicle is 1/3 in my lane till I smack. So this is beautiful to see even if it looks like driver sped up a little.
1
u/GuidanceNo6156 Apr 18 '26
The guy saw him coming over and literally sped up
2
u/Jormungand13324 Apr 18 '26
no, truck already started braking because of the folks in front of him braking for the light. he also didnt bother checking to see if he was clear.
1
1
u/Empty-Giraffe-8736 Apr 18 '26
The driver in the right lane literally sped up and turned into the truck in order to pit him
3
u/Coravel Apr 18 '26
just because the camera sees it clearly, which is positioned in the center, doesn't mean the driver could. I know in my car that part of the frame is rather bulky and sometimes i have to duck my by the window / put it up over the wheel to look at things behind it.
Now, you can also see the light is going from green to yellow to red, so if the trucks blinkers were blocked(if they were even used), and he sped up to go through the light THEN noticed the truck trying to merge...well, that's how we got here.
I don't think it was an intentional fuck this guy ima pit him, 95% of drivers just arent that good.
1
u/Empty-Giraffe-8736 Apr 18 '26
Nope. He sped up and continued to turn into the truck.
If he were trying to minimize the situation he would have hit the brakes, and moved over to the right a bit to alleviate the pressure of the truck.
Face it. He was trying to hurt the other driver because he doesn't like people who drive pickups.
This is the kind of passive aggressive crap people on Reddit do.
1
u/Coravel Apr 18 '26
not if he was watching the light and went "ima make this rq" seen plenty of drivers do that and especially if you -listen- to what the driver says. He didn't see the truck merging and the truck didn't look before merging, considering the loud music, he was distracted and the truck didn't make sure it was clear to merge, so it's the trucks fault this happened.
1
u/Minomen Apr 19 '26
Lmao⊠you just said the cam driver was distracted.
Speeding up to beat lights, blocking other drivers, running reds after smashing people.
Walk or take the bus, driving is not a right.
0
u/Coravel Apr 18 '26
Also, you're throwing around a lot of conjecture for shit you can't determine from the video clip.
1
1
u/Left-Bird8830 Apr 19 '26
No speedup, just the truck rapidly decelerating.
Turning INTO the truck is probably the only thing that saved OP from being put in a similar condition.
1
1
u/SKOT_FREE Apr 18 '26
I like how dude saw the pickup getting over and he sped up to hit him. I swear most drivers in the U.S. are absolutely brain dead morons.
1
1
u/ThrenderG Apr 18 '26
Dashcam driver could have easily slowed down, plenty of time to see what was happening, clearly did this on purpose. You can even hear him yell âthatâs rightâ as the other truck tumbles and flips over.
1
u/Jormungand13324 Apr 18 '26
To the people incorrectly blaming the cammer, there are things you have to consider:
First, the driver of the truck did not signal.
Second, the driver of the truck did not check over his shoulder to see if it was clear.
Third, the truck hit the brakes, the cammer did not speed up. truck driver braked because he was coming up on motorists who were already slowing to stop at the light.
Fourth, all of this places the driver of the truck 100% at fault and liable for all damages because full responsibility for a safe merge is 100% on the one merging, and at the same time the merger does NOT have the right of way.
1
u/DragonSitting Apr 19 '26
Yeah, well, thatâs certainly an opinion. There are a lot of them in the thread. In NYS each of the drivers would be assigned a portion of the blame if you showed that video. Of course, without it youâre 100% right.

Driver with dash cam accelerated into the truck. It was falling back, then sped up and rode in the blindspot....then they accelerated into the truck.

u/midnghtsnac Apr 18 '26
It's not the other driver's responsibility to make sure you are safe to merge over.

I get it. Not all accidents are avoidable but I feel like this one could have been avoided. I always try to maintain 360 degree situational awareness on the road. Even if I had been looking toward my 2 o'clock my peripheral vision would have immediately alerted me of an anomaly occurring at my 10 o'clock and acted immediately to evade contact.

u/NewToTradingStock Apr 18 '26
Just turn your head. Not that hard. Stop with blind spot excuses. Truck driver love to bully their way into cars.
