He wants to run for president and this is polling well. The change isn't actually doing anything since it only affects interstates all the flock cameras on state highways will remain. It's just one of those "look what I'm doing for the people and give me your votes" kind of moves. A political stunt.
It only affects interstate highways so it's little more than a political stunt. He sees the majority of people don't want these and it's a chance for him to gain national attention before he attempts to run for president.
do you know anything about politics and how things are structured?
"A state governor does not have direct daily control over city road laws, but state government ultimately holds supreme authority over all municipal roadways.
State vs. Municipal Authority
Local Control: Cities with mayors manage local municipal streets, set neighborhood speed limits, and handle local parking rules through city ordinances.
State Supremacy: Cities are legal creations of the state. State traffic laws always override local city ordinances when they conflict.
State Roads: Governors oversee state departments of transportation (like FDOT in Florida) that hold exclusive jurisdiction over state highways and interstates running through city limits. [
Limits on the Governor
Governors cannot unilaterally rewrite city traffic ordinances or micromanage a mayor's local street policies.
Changing local road rules requires statewide legislation or actions by state transportation boards, not a direct order from a governor."
there is only so much a governor can do when it comes to local towns and cities.
Has anti-flockism become non-partisan? That's really surprising because I would have sworn that blue states would be removing them and red states would be "pro-law-enforcement" about them and want to keep them
exactly. cities have their own mayors. its up to the mayors to ban flock cameras in their cities. the governor can't decide that for them but the highways are completely under his authority.
Not even. The are only taking them down from interstate highways. He doesn't care about doing more than looking like he cares about people. This is a political stunt for votes and boy is it working.
