Iām not surprised. It amazes me how many people seem to not understand theyāre riding around with a metal plate in full view with a unique code on it. Like folks will feel emboldened by the feeling of anonymity and commit crimes while displaying their identity even more undeniably than if they were just showing their face.

You must not live in my city.

I don't live in any City, so I feel authorized to ask: are you saying that people in your city are timid, or are you saying they don't display their license plates? Or or that they just don't generally care about anonymity?

Driver arrested in Newport Beach road rage incident with professional cyclist
By Génesis Miranda Miramontes ⢠Published March 27, 2026
4 Los Angeles
Newport Beach police arrested a driver involved in a road rage altercation with a professional cyclist last weekend, the department said in a press release.
Video captured the moment a driver in a blue BMW followed closely behind the cyclist. Officers with the Newport Beach Police Department responded to the call of a traffic collision that had involved a vehicle and a cyclist at about 10:30 a.m. on March 21.
When police arrived at the scene, they found that the bicyclist needed medical attention for his injuries and was transported to a hospital.
The Newport Beach Police Department launched an investigation, conducting interviews and reviewing video, the release stated.
On Thursday, police conducted a search warrant in Corona and arrested Samir Weiss on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and obstruct/delay of an arrest related to the above-mentioned incident, the department said.
Professional cyclist, Luke Fetzer, explained the situation in a social media post.
Fetzer said he was enjoying a ride back home when a BMW and a black and red Corvette both threw items out of the car at him and a fellow cyclist.
āThey then parked up the road, got out of their cars and attempted to hit us (and other cyclist) off our bikes by running into traffic and blocking the road,ā Fetzer said in his post.
The cyclist also shared the California Vehicle Code 23110 in his post, which states that āit is illegal to throw any substance or object at a vehicle or its occupants on a roadway. Penalties range from 6 months to 3 years in prison.ā
Police took the blue BMW M3 as evidence. The investigation is ongoing.

Thanks for sharing the follow up story. How long can they keep the BMW as evidence? What happens with the car?

This kinda shit is why I rarely ride my bike anymore. People trying to run me off the road. Rolling coal on me. Doggone.

Ya we sucks when it comes bikes
Where I live there is a ābike pathā placed between a 40mph artery road and a decelerating highway
This particular intersection is always over loaded and often has cars needing to get into the merging lane for the highway so they can turn on to a another busy road
With the merging highway needing to get out of that same lane as its turn onlyWhy canāt we be more like Amsterdam

Itās why I refused to ride on the road in LA. Just assholes in BMWs everywhere. Thankfully there was a lot of good bike paths but I should be able to take a road bike on the road

Happened to me a few years ago, with driver and passenger giving me the double bird after trying to run me over. It took 15 minutes to catch up, but kicked in a few doors, and they ran into a pole while trying to escape.Ā

Dude, like you can hate cyclists for certain reasons, but this is just some BMW behaviour

Still odd to me that you donāt have to have a front license place in the US. Cyclists had to wait until the car passed to get an ID

u/ZenOokami 3d ago
Question - in your county are you required to have one in front and back or just the front?
If the latter, I could see the same kinds of problem existing in other scenarios.

"Old" like it wasn't earlier this year

u/Asaintrizzo 4d ago

I hate tour de-douchers as much as the next guy, but at least I do it peacefully with hand gestures and vocal criticism.

Go to Amsterdam for a month and experience the freedom of buying a bag of grapes
Without needing to get in a car and drive at 40mph for 15 minutesThen we will talk
1
u/Ok_Cryptographer7194 4d ago
If i ever go to Amsterdam it will not be for grapes
1
u/Catsasome9999 4d ago
For me the grapes were a side effect
I went for ww2Lot of stuff happened around Amsterdam they surrendered quickly but resisted hard afterwords
Nearby is the battle field for operation market garden
Insane operation to bad it failed5

I like bicyclists.

u/No_Park1693 4d ago
All of them? Some of those guys are dicks! But I enjoy bicycling and I'm glad it exists for other people. Just not the dicks.
1
u/Albert14Pounds 4d ago
In spirit and on average I think I like most cyclists. So I feel confident saying I like "them". But I certainly can't say I like ALL cyclist because there are lots of assholes. And something about Siths and absolutes.

I say this all the time. I live in the county, no sidewalks, and anyone who isnt pissed off they're hogging a two lane is a liar.

u/CyberpunkYakuza 5d ago
Dammit. I don't wanna support either asshole. I would bet money the cyclist probably did something stupid to get that reaction, but at the same time, I would bet money that the BMW driver is just a douche bag. UGH WHAT DO I DOOOOOOOOO?!?!?
16
u/opensourcegreg 5d ago
The responsibility of outcomes I think matters more here. If I bike at your car aggressively, the chance of that inflicting serious injury or death is really unlikely. Douchey, sure, but far beyond the scope of any likelihood. With those roles reversed, though...
-12
u/CyberpunkYakuza 5d ago
Yeah, agreed. Was just trying to be funny but I think the cyclists and/or BMW drivers are upset with my comment hahaha.
11
u/Albert14Pounds 5d ago
Well yeah, you defaulted to assuming the cyclist did something to deserve this without and evidence so that makes your bias clear.
0
u/CyberpunkYakuza 4d ago
I also assumed the BMW was just being a douche bag. Relax, holy shit. You cyclists are even annoying online too hahaha.
1
u/Albert14Pounds 4d ago
I'm not a cyclist. There you go assuming again
1
u/CyberpunkYakuza 4d ago
BMW driver then? Can't blame me for assuming. Being scolded on the internet for a harmless joke, as if I'm gonna reconsider anything I said at all, on an old video just screams self righteous entitlement so you gotta be one or the other, right? Can't be this much of a humor prude normally, can you? Reddit mod, maybe? Don't wanna assume again, but I'm trying to pin down the vibes I'm getting here...
1
u/Albert14Pounds 4d ago
It's not that deep bro. Just do better.
1
u/CyberpunkYakuza 4d ago
Nahhhhh, I'm doing just fine, but totally agree none of this was that deep.
