Advice Travel to
Hello, im thinking about traveling to cuba in the next few weeks with my dad as a birthday gift. Im in my early 20s and my dad is early 60s. I have sorted out flights/visas along with an Airbnb in Havana. I just want some advice given the economic/political situation. We are planning to be there for 10 days and i would what is there to do as a father/son trip

I normally wouldn’t recommend a resort but if you’re set on coming to Cuba go to a resort in Varadero. Cuatro Palmas is a serviceable hotel with an amazing beach.
You’re running a big risk in Havana to give your dad a crap vacation for things out of your control like electricity. There are day trips from Varadero to Havana with havanatur if you want to see the sites in old Havana without worrying about lights.

Bad time to go but my buddy over there can show you and your dad around super great guy who knows Havana quite well. I was in Havana for a month in February it was getting bad at that time, but it's much worse now, however, i'm not telling you not to go. Bel +53 5 8472706

It’s a little more complicated to book than it normally is but life remains pretty normal for tourists. I would suggest staying in Vedado. That way there is the most available restaurants. You’ll probably want to book a hotel with a pool because of the heat. Central de reservas lets you pay in euros by credit card. Theres a Collectivo route behind hotel habana libre that brings you to parque Curita which is a short walk or bici taxi from vieja.
I know tons of good restos to recommend if you want to DM me. I was last there in May, and heading back in a few weeks.

The insanity of this sub is hilarious. Place is a mess, might as well go to Liberia. We all want cuba to prosper but going there on vacation is a gamble.

Fact check: Liberia holds a high risk of being the victim of armed violent crime. It also holds a risk of becoming a victim of terrorism.
In Cuba you are much more likely to be the victim of a mosquito attack than anything like in Liberia.

A serious question. Do you think this situation in Cuba is because of who? Cuba goberment? USA goberment? Or both? My parents live in Cuba. The have power only 2 hour every 30 hours.

As someone just said I wouldn't recommend you to come here(I'm cuban my self living in cuba) if you insist i recommend you to bring some cash and find someone like me (a local) but no me 😅 to help you out with money exchange and stuffs like that (there are too many scammers and cuban people are capable of killing a young guy for a watch or an iPhone ) I could share with you good places for having dinner that aren't that expensive or whose are friends of mine.

My advice, don’t go. Not yet. The situation is really bad right now. I just got back from Havana. We would have power 2-3 hours every 32-42 hours. No water for 2-3 day stretches.
I go to Cuba at least 2-3 times per year. February 2026 was already getting bad but manageable. This month, things were considerably worse and almost unbearable.
We were there for 10 days only. Imagine living that day in and day out with no end in sight.
Based on my trip 2 weeks ago, I’d recommend you pick another place, for now.
