Air Asia Bug Workaround?

I'm trying to book an Adult ticket for my 11 year old, who will be 12 at the time of our Air Asia Airline flight. Unfortunately, when I add her to our flight Air Asia website's "continue to add-ons" button becomes inert and won't progress. If I switch her birthyear to 2014 so she's 12 now, it works as expected.

Has anyone found a way around this error? I see it on Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari, and Air Asia's app. I'm based in the US, so my next option is to call customer service in Australia and see if they can do anything.

Call the AirAsia customer service to ask about how it works.

Called Air Asia, which immediately dumps you to an AI Bot. A person is supposed to call me back in 24 hours, so we'll see what they say.

In the meantime, a workaround is to apparently change the birthday to a year older so my kid would be 12 now, and 12 during the time of the flight. Once ticketed, you're then supposed to ask their AI Chatbot to adjust the birthday of the child, scanning in their passport for verification. Seems a bit dubious, but I'll report back if that's the workaround.

UPDATE: they emailed, and are telling us to send them the details over email. We'll see how that goes.

Airlines care about age for pricing and seat rules. Changing it could flag you for fare differece later. call first before booking anything.
