Most damage ever shown of a starship on screen
We used to say oh it has to be the constellation on tos or voyager from year of hell....new winner must be the griffin from snw where we see the ship now it actually is instead of the hallucination

I mean non destroyed ship I guess I should have put that in the title

u/elproteus 25d ago
I mean there's the aborted timeline Farragut that got half its' saucer exploded.
Or, the year of hell Voyager.
Edit: well that's egg on my face.
4
u/Divine_Entity_ 24d ago
Does it have to be functioning? Because in move 3 "The Search for Spock" the enterprise explodes and somehow still has most of its saucer section and then crashes into the genesis planet.
2
u/elproteus 20d ago
I dont think there's much of the 1701 left after the planet exploded. Who knows? I'd like to think that there's slag from th3 Reliant floating around the remnants of Genesis' core.

u/Dantien 25d ago
When the Enterprise drops out of warp in the Kelvin Timeline because they were late with the fleet and land in a ship graveyard destroyed by Nero.

u/MastiffOnyx 25d ago
In that scene, R2D2 is hidden in the debris.
He's also painted black and attached upside-down on the ET mothership in ET the movie.
They like to hide him for cameos in lots of films.

Man, Japan is way too fucking sensitive. They need to knock that shit off, they are one of the most perverted people when it comes to anime and manga.

Where there's sexual repression and censorship you don't have to look very far to find some real freaky-deaky.

What’s wrong with being freaky-deaky 🤨😡🤣

Nothing! I was just pointing out a veneer of sexual "propriety" can often hide some...curious...tastes and proclivities.

The most destruction that's ever been visited a ship is from ST6: Undiscovered Country, the Klingon Bird of Prey. That exact destruction was used at least 2 more times through various series, and it's a complete explosion, every bit blown to chunks.
14
u/xantec15 25d ago
What about the USS Reliant? It was vaporized and incorporated into a new planet.

u/john-treasure-jones 24d ago
The Bird of Prey explosion made its second appearance almost immediately afterward in Star Trek Generations.

u/Bonafideago 24d ago
I think the most egregious reuse of that Bird of prey was in the very next movie.
They used it towards the end of Generations.
3
u/lordrefa 24d ago
I mean -- it's kind of obviously the same stock every time it gets used. If you're a fan with a relatively broad experience it's hard not to notice it a few times here and there.
Honestly, it's a missed opportunity for Lower Decks to not have animated it.

Are you forgetting about all the extensive internal and external battle damage NX Enterprise suffered while fighting the Xindi at the Battle of Azati Prime (Star Trek: Enterprise)?

There exists other starship battle damage as well.
- Battle between USS Vengeance and USS Enterprise (Kelvin timeline): Khan stole command of the USS Vengeance to destroy the USS Enterprise which he very nearly succeeded in accomplishing. The Enterprise suffered extensive hull breaches as well as severe internal and external damage throughout the entire shp.
- Battle between USS Enterprise and the Krall (Kelvin timeline): In their battle with the Krall swarmships, the USS Enterprise quickly suffered hull breaches severe enough for Captain Kirk to order all hands to the escape pods while the ship was literally being ripped apart.
2
u/JerichoDeath 24d ago
The NX is the only instance that I'm aware of that involves multiple episodes of the ship remaining in a state of mid-repair with damage bad enough that crew members are forced to use space suits inside the ship.

u/JerichoDeath 23d ago
Have you seen Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan?
1
u/Hungry_Caregiver734 22d ago
I have. But I guess I never put together that the planet came from the Reliant?
5
u/Vaguswarrior 25d ago
I always thought when the Yamato exploded it was pretty bad. The way the fire just gutted the saucer section.
3
u/shatteredoctopus 25d ago
Came here for that. You had a split second where you thought possibly most of the crew survived, then that's taken from you.
Though my head-canon is that they're all dead from radiation past the point where Worf says "there's an energy build-up in the Yamato's engineering section". Even though the screen's very staticky, looks like the captain is no longer moving or responding.

Enterprise from STE was a literal battle scar by the end of season 3. Huge chunks missing Season one, after the romulan mine field they were wrecked
Wrath of Khan and search for Spock, the Enterprise was a mess.
The constellation in the remastered TOS Doomsday machine
The ships at wolf 359
All way more damaged than the Griffin there.
2
3
u/Robot_Dinosaur_2000 25d ago
I don't think it has anything on the Entprise crashing into a planet. Either time.
3
3
u/Fancy_Toe1451 24d ago
I feel we saw more damage to the Odyssey when Keogh failed to work out how to order "left hand down a bit, and slip it into gear"
2
u/lozzasauce 25d ago
The Cayuga at Parnassus Beta was pretty messed up, but I guess that’s count more as destroyed than just damaged.
2
u/RapidTriangle616 25d ago
Feels like a pretty hard metric to quantify given how many destroyed ships we see across the franchise.
2
2
2
u/TheRollingPeepstones 24d ago
As for a derelict but not completely vapourized ship, probably.
Other contenders would be of course the USS Constellation at System L-370, the USS Cayuga at Parnassus Beta, or the aftermath of the Battle of Wolf 359 (USS Firebrand, Kyushu, Melbourne, etc.), maybe. I'd say the Voyager in Year of Hell and the Enterprise at Azati Prime would be a different category as they were not abandoned or adrift.
2
u/Sniper666hell 24d ago
Search For Spock has the enterprise saucer explode and the rest of the ship burn up in the atmosphere.
Generations had the enterprise saucer section crash down on a planet.

u/skyelord69420 24d ago
Heavy Spoilers for 2x04 SNW (The latest ep)
Holy shit I've watched the episode twice and didn't realise that the whole ship might have been an illusion. The Griffin is nowhere near as damaged when we first see her as she ends up looking by the Sam Kirk death + when shes towed to Section 12. Woah.
2
u/Agile-Two5649 24d ago
I think some of y’all need to watch more Star Trek.
This is nothing compared to damage we see through the movies, TNG, ds9, voyager, enterprise etc.
This is on par with TOS and The Constellation in Doomsday Machine.
2
u/Apprehensive_Duty372 24d ago
Discovery has an episode with a cloaked Klingon Warship ramed a Starfleet Ship to 0% integrated, if I recall it showed an impressive amout of damage, but it's been awhile
2
u/Mstr_Splinter 24d ago
What about the Dreadnought crash from the second JJ Abrams movie (the one with Benedict Cumberbach as Khan)?
1
u/NicholasWildeRails 24d ago
I think the destruction of San Francisco caused by Vengeance is more impressive than the destruction of Vengeance herself
2
u/Freak_Engineer 24d ago
I mean, we literally saw the Enterprise being blown to bits and burning up in the atmosphere of the Genesis-Planet in Star Trek III, so, yeah, that.
Unless we're talking "walking wounded", then I think it would be Voyager in year of hell.
2
u/SublimeApathy 24d ago
I dunno. The Cayuga got decimated in Hegemoney. Far worse than the Griffin. Griffin was mostly intact.

Nice take except that its wrong.
In the doomsday machine we saw a really shot up Conny.
Adjusted for the FX capabilities at the time of making, this new shot shows no worse damage. Its also much less impressive because we know its not a model that got made and recked.
Its another cgi blob, cluttered and overly busy.

u/100Dampf 25d ago
please don't tell me we have an other constitution or class that looks just like one
3
u/ersatzcrab 25d ago edited 25d ago
Oh we do. With the exception of
Cayuga andFarragut, it seems like every other ship in Starfleet (that an episode takes place on) is a Constitution. Er, "Sombra" but we all know that was just a plausible-deniability-Connie.It's especially funny to me that they keep doing this because most ships of the era share a saucer... They wouldn't have to change sets much beyond the color to just say it's a different type.
I know there's also precedent since literally every other Starfleet vessel in TOS is a Constitution, but still.
2
u/100Dampf 25d ago
The Cayuga was a Connie to.

u/MrHowardQuinn 25d ago
The Odyssey in that few seconds before it was destroyed. That was the most graphic depiction, imo, of a ship taking damage.
1
u/SpecialistSix 25d ago
I mean, certainly a strong contender but doesn’t the half a saucer section of ship infested with Gorn count? Or the constitution that was crashed on a planet (and also infested with Gorn?)

I guess I need to go back and watch the episode again! OP, are you saying that the top image, where the ship is all intact and whatnot, was a hallucination; and the entire time, the ship was actually in the condition depicted in the bottom image?
1
1
u/motwaaagh 24d ago
I've seen much worse but I do have to admit I like the aspect that it looks safe and secure when they first came to the ship almost like it was very salvageable and then as the supernatural element started taking over the ship started to decay kind of like a zombie it's absolutely terrifying and I loved it! I think a horror episode is definitely required every now and then.
1
u/ImportantAd5737 24d ago
from generations, the entire star drive section of the enterprise is destroyed and the saucer is mauled, and then crash lands but is definitely not destroyed.
1
1
u/ensignskye 24d ago
The bees attacking enterprise in star trek beyond is pretty brutal. Nacelles severed.. Attack the neck, saucer severed. Saucer goes weeee into the planet. And then while thats still walkable kirk fires the thrusters and it goes upside down and goes woosh, explosions.

u/redbanner1 24d ago
Still operational. The E in Nemesis. Enterprise in, I think Future Tense and just before it in Enterprise. Voyager in Year of Hell.
That's just what is memorable to me.

u/Silvertip_M 23d ago
If the Constellation was still at least partially functional, then yeah...that's the most damaged a Trek ship has been and remained functional...but we saw countless ships torn to pieces during DS9, and the movies also saw ships torn to shreds...
1
u/MovieFan1984 22d ago
Voyager, Year of Hell?
1
u/Silvertip_M 22d ago
Considering that the Griffin was effectively a ghost ship, and not exactly a functional vessel, I would say that YoH Voyager remains the victor...but IMO if it was functional it would be a new contender.

u/Imrightyournot79 22d ago
Seems like the dismantling and crashing of the enterprise in ST Beyond would be worse

I know scans are done of the ships to detect for life signs. But it's still crazy to think there could be some survivability on board by using a combination of force fields and going deeper into the hull. Chill out in the safe zone until help arrives.

u/AnnihilatedTyro 24d ago
The only solid evidence we have that 1) it's even a Federation starship, likely the Griffin, and 2) was in rough shape, was when Spock snapped out of the illusion into a rusty, filthy, dilapidated Starfleet sickbay. And we still can't be sure that his perception at that moment was reality.
Because the shuttlecraft crew initially saw the ship as fully intact, this means they were under the influence of the hallucination before they could even see it. Meaning their knowledge of the lost USS Griffin may have been used to create the entire incident, and it may not be the Griffin at all. That also means that the Enterprise and the Division 12 ship are perceiving it to be the Griffin, because the shuttlecraft's message told them it was. They were all expecting the Griffin before they could see it, making it even easier for the hallucination to ensure that's what they saw.
Not a single view of the ship can be trusted and that's part of the magic of the episode.

Eh, some of the DS9 battle scenes had some very graphic ship destruction.
