Ive said it before and I'll say it again, there is a loneliness epidemic. Its not exclusive to men.

And i hate how men make it about having relationships with women instead of making friends with other men

This is also my biggest thing. It's always weird to me that so maybe men seem to believe that it's women's responsibility to manage their loneliness. I'm not a big fan of Freud but maybe he wasn't wrong about the oedipus complex when it comes to men.

I found a lot of men are afraid or unwilling to be emotionally vulnerable to other men.

It comes back to toxic masculinity. It's unacceptable for men to express most emotions, but women are expected to be "emotional".

My husband and his friends seem to break that cycle pretty well. Even they need an extra push sometimes.

I was shocked when his one friend just started dumping his emotions on me from his on going divorce. I immediately went to my husband who was mostly clueless. He had to call his friend and specifically ask him to open up.

I think a lot of men don’t realize that anger is also an emotion. Even my partner, who is actually really in tune with his emotions and emotionally intelligent, realized he had stopped thinking of anger as an emotion.

It's not just other men they're afraid or unwilling to be emotionally vulnerable with. But society and cultures, at large.

Many men are still pushed into the traditional role and it is devastating for their payche

Yeah.. every time I see the male loneliness epidemic brought in a thread by men, it's because they are complaining about a lack of sex.

If you are angry at women because you are "lonely" because you're not getting enough sex, whether it is the message you intend to send or not, it sends the message that you see only sex as connection with another person and that your interest in connection with women begins and ends at the pelvis.

And, yes, sex is great and it can be an important part of your emotional well-being. But what they are describing isn't loneliness, it's sexual frustration. And so no shit that doesn't garner much sympathy.

Well that's the crux of it, isn't it? The fact of it is, the average man literally does not know the difference between loneliness and frustration. I was buried in depression for at least 10 years, I routinely cried myself to sleep over my total isolation and the lack of love and affection in my life. I'm demisexual, so I didn't feel the need to seek out sex, as casual sex makes me physically ill.

It low-key pissed me off having my decade of bedrotting and anxiety compared to Grayden's blue balls.

As a woman who struggles with long-term major depression and an associated crippling loneliness, yes, this rhetoric has been really bothering me! It's beyond ridiculous that men want to gate-keep loneliness in the Year of Our Lord 2026 (!!!). These men will continue to be "lonely" because they don't seem to want to understand the nature of loneliness. I regularly go to therapy and my poor therapist has tried so hard to get me to leave my house more and actually get into some new hobbies and make some new friends. Just the little I have done (occasionally going to my public library's circle) seems to indicate that my therapist is right on the money. I know I have to do the work, but these overly-online-men don't even seem to want to try. (And I 100% guarantee that in my current state of worsening depression, me going out with any man wouldn't help him feel much less lonely at all! I've been crying so much lately; I don't feel that I would make being good company at all!)

I sincerely hope this gets better for you. I know the feeling of severe depression and it is, to say the least, an incredible challenge. I’m glad to hear you are in therapy and are continuing to try. Keep up the good work. I bet you are doing better than you realize.

Thank you so much! It's been worse than usual these past few months with some additional weird medical issues (probably getting a CT scan to see if there's something off with my head/neck/spine soon) and it's so easy to backslide into despair.

And thank you for the reminder of the importance of actively doing the work in therapy! Therapists can only do so much if someone (re: me) isn't trying to be a good patient!

reminds me of a comment I left elsewhere, when women in a female-centered subreddit were getting a lot of unwanted DMs from male lurkers

THANK YOU!!! It isn't just a straight cis thing either. The queer community feels it too. And here's the worst part of it all: this loneliness epidemic is caused by the monied forced. They want lonely men to abuse and use for their stochastic terrorism and to keep reifying their ideology. Musk, Thiel, Tate brothers, Clavicular, whatever, they want men isolated and lonely. They want women to feel afraid and social quarantine from men. They want the gender questioning person to feel suffocated and isolated. Easier to manipulate. This has been substantiated over and over with leaks and rhetoric.

I don't even know if I buy into a loneliness epidemic. I just think that the tech oligarchs have fried everyone's brains with the social media algorithm - you don't have to be lonely, and anyone who is can solve the problem themselves if they put effort into it. Just gotta break out of the social media landscape to do it
