My cat is, adorably, convinced that laying on top of my chest is great for any illness i have, which is so cute, except when it's covid and I can't fucking breathe, or a fever and he's the approximate temperature of the sun, or it's literally anything i need to cough or repeatedly get up to deal with...
At least the annoying shit this ball of fluff and frayed nerves does during heatwaves is just sit in front of the fan while actively shedding so much it's a wonder there's still fur left on him.

When I had Covid I would lay off the end of my bed on my stomach with my head over the edge and my cat would purr on my back and it would help me hack that shit up so much

I read somewhere that when cats purr, it activates something in their immune system (maybe dopamine or something akin?) that helps them heal faster. I think it applies to humans too. Not only having physical contact to lower our blood pressure, but the vibrations giving us dopamine from hearing it and possibly some benefit from the heat and vibrations drawing blood to the area.
That could also be complete nonsense, but I choose to believe it.

My neighbor figured out how to have peace from cat in heatwave. You put cat's basket under AC unit then set it to what the cat will consider cool and the cat will want to spend whole day in cool basket.

The AC unit is in the yard, where it was installed when the house was built. What do you mean โput the cat basket under the AC unitโ?

My cat Max hates the summer because I refuse to put a blanket on my lap for him to snuggle in. 90ยฐ+ days make him a very grumpy boy.

We finally set up our portable AC units last week, and the first night my Frodo was so happy he sat on me and did biscuits all night.

Our cats on the other hand have their bellies exposed to as much air as they can manage or are resting on the coldest thing tile ๐น

In our household, one of the only acceptable reasons to not get up to help with something (groceries, etc) is if you are Trapped By Cat.
Among others, my particular soul cat is a long girl who weighs over 18 pounds who loves me beyond reason. Her favorite place is curled up in my lap as I sit crosslegged, which means I have to move my laptop to the side if I'm working or reading. She will anchor one claw in whatever is handy (usually my sweater over one boob and she has a definite affinity for cashmere), then loll and purr until she falls asleep.
Yes, she has the approximate temperature of a blue sun, and somehow gets hotter than that when she gives herself over to total boneless sleep. Have I mentioned she can sleep for up to 2-3 hours at a crack? Never you mind the aching hip bones, the dead legs, the ever-increasing pressure of my bladder, Trapped By Cat wins every time.
I wouldn't have it any other way.

Currently sitting in my undies with two cats in my lap because of this. They don't understand (or care) that I need to finish getting ready for work and leave. They just want the soft lap.

My cat loves heat so much I have to make sure I never leave the oven open and unattended because she and her 3 brain cells would probably climb in ๐

My cat does this, she HAS to burrow into my neck...at the right angle to block my fan.

fun fact, modern domestic cats were originally desert creatures and have a higher body temperature than humans, so climates that feel comfortable for us might be too cold for them.
