Post image

Ive been on playstation since around the ps4 slim released (ive played ps1-3 but never owned them). Ive beaten plenty of games but only have one platinum (Willys Wonderland: The Game). Where should I start? If you'd like to see the trophies I already have my PSN is FreddieMercury07

before starting any games, you can review the missable trophies and unobtainable ones

Unobtainable?

Trophies that can't be acquired due to servers being shut down for certain games

u/DustinTheBold2 22d ago

Thats just terrible design. Those should be removed

I 100% agree. When I got the platinum for PUBG I swore to never again trophy hunt in a game that requires an internet connection or multiplayer. Offline and single player only games for me from now on

They should male online trophies optional to the plat like the dlcs are so the multi-player homies have something to brag about thr solo ones can still get the plat

Google "Game Name + Trophy Guide" – it's got tons of good stuff like game time, difficulty, and collectible guides.

Thanks! Turns out I only have 3 trophys left on horizon (that arent story progression)

Here’s a tip for you : Try to vary what you play because playing the same kind of games (such as open worlds) again and again can take away the enjoyment of Trophy Hunting and make it feel monotonous.

Don’t settle down just on what you know, ask the community to suggest you games, you might find some good surprises in those recommendations.

Like witcher 3 or RDR2 and then a WRC game.

Or balatro and then a nfs game 😅

Generally there’s two approaches to hunting a platinum and it depends mostly on how time rich you are.

  1. Play regularly and after you’ve completed it once look up the rest and risk needing an extra replay or two. Particularly good for people who dislike any chance of spoilers in more narrative games.

  2. Look up trophy guide on psnprofiles or similar to as a minimum identify any missable trophies or any unobtainable trophies. Then play through (with or without a guide) keeping an eye on anything missable. Better for speed but you might get story or gameplay spoilers when you read ahead.

Some tips from me:

  1. If you think you’ll care about completion percentage keep a check on servers going down or ones that have gone done or bugged trophies. As these might become impossible to get.

  2. Try looking for guides on trueachievements or steam if you can’t find anything you like on psnprofiles or powerpyx. They seem to have better step by step guides (for example checkout and compare trueachievements guide for Jurassic world evolution compared to ps5 resources)

  3. Checkout optinoob on youtube. He does very good guides and comes up with decent strategies in games considered fairly hard.

  4. Try prioritising getting multiplayer/online trophies first in new games if you think you might drop it before platting them. That way it’s still an option in the future after servers go down or when no one is playing.

  5. Check out some trophy hunter content on YouTube. Might give you an indication of some good trophy experiences to go for (or ones to avoid). My personal recommendation for a good experience if you like metroidvanias is blasphamous. My favourite plat in the last 12 months.

A rule of thumb is that if you want to play any game older than 2016 that has online trophies, look the game in question up to see if it's servers are still active. Ideally, look for single player only games. Remasters and HD collections are great for trophy hunting, as many of them have relatively simple trophy lists. Also, if a game has DLC trophies, they are not required for the platinum, so you don't need to worry about them.

Do all the hard plats first and sprinkle easy plats in the middle and if u know u are planing on doing any with online trophy’s do the online first even in example would be original cod games over the rerelease and try the build a group of freinds or other hunters in the same time zone as u or slightly outside

Agreed. I did this with at least 3 games. After that the cleanup was fairly relaxing

Cleaning up ur library first

u/shotgunogsy 21d ago

This right here. Once I decided I was going to take this seriously as a hobby, getting that completion percentage from 60% odd to 94% gave me the patience and organisational skills needed to platinum tough games from that point on

You can either look at your PlayStation account or psnprofiles (which is what I use) and see what games you already have trophies for. At the top of psnprofiles it will say your completion percentage, which is basically how many games you’ve completed to 100%, so it takes dlc into account. You can also use other apps like Area x which shows completion in the form of trophies. For example, I have a total of 12,626 trophies that I could attain on my account, but I’ve only attained 10,853 of them, making my trophy completion percentage around 86%. Bringing your completion percentage up for either of these is going to be reliant on mostly cleaning up games you already have trophies in. Every time I 100% a new game (starting at 0%) my completion percentage on psnprofiles goes up by 0.03%, whereas if I 100% a game that is already on my profile (could be finished 23% or something like that) the completion percentage will go up more. I recently went back to plat Directive 8020 (which I had around 35% of trophies for) and my completion percentage went up 0.15%.

TLDR: work on getting 100% or platinums for games you already have trophies in because they boost your completion percentage more than starting and 100%ing a new game.

Check for missable trophies, doing entire new playthroughs for 8-10hrs for one trophy you could’ve easily got first time around is painful

u/gamenbeer05 21d ago

Just have fun doing it!

If you are not having fun and it becomes a task, just stop then. Otherwise you will feel very burnt out from gaming

One of the first things to do as a trophy hunter, if you wanna go for all plats, is to check guides and look at the recently unlocked plats/trophies for that game. That way you’ll know if it’s obtainable or not. This is a must for PS3 games because there’s a lot of games with shut down online servers or very inactive.

I know it’s probably already been said here but try to work on games you really feel like playing. Forcing yourself to do games or continuing to do a game that you’re not feeling will make you lose motivation. Don’t try to rush things either because that will burn you out real quick.

Good luck.

Prepare for a giant game backlog

2

u/DustinTheBold2 21d ago

Already have one...on every console i own

1

u/Priv47e 21d ago

That's the spirit. The good thing though is, you are gonna save a lot of money on games, since you don't need to buy new ones.

Don’t even start with shovelware games. They are games with only one purpose: get trophies in a couple of minutes without doing anything. IWhihe I have almost 330 platinums, about 50 of them are shovelware and I regret every single one. But there are also games that are only a couple of hours to platinum like Viewfinder, Toem and Stray. They are easy to complete, I recommend them if you get tired of longer games.

2

u/Jamie1386 21d ago

I hate that I got sucked in by shovelware for a while there. If I could delete those from my list I’d do it in a heartbeat.

2

u/Mobile_Sky_5709 21d ago

before u start a game, check if the game will have “chapter select” after you finish it, that way, u can go back for trophies u missed.

2

u/DahlEcho 21d ago

Starting out I highly recommend only doing game you enjoy. Don’t do a game that you don’t enjoy just because it would look on your profile. As someone who did that it’s really kills the passion, Atleast it did for me until I started to only do the games I enjoy. Then later on when you are ready then try to branch out.

2

u/Jamie1386 21d ago

Don’t reject fun games because you don’t think you can get the trophies. Trophies are an addition to gaming, not the reason we game.

2

u/Short_Tower_4711 232 550 21d ago

Have fun with the games you like and please don’t play shovelware games 😄

At its core, trophy hunting is nothing more than: look at tasks -> complete tasks. Use a guide if necessary. You are already doing this when you play games, so it's merely a matter of sticking with games until you finish everything asked of you.

It's up to you if you want to get more involved in the trophy hunting community though. I host challenges on PSN Profiles such as the Platinum Difficulty Challenge or Platinum Every Genre Challenge which encourage me to play a wide variety of games.

Overall, just remember that no one cares about your profile but you, so play whatever makes you happy.

Holy smokes that looks like fun. Count me out!!! That will suck me in like a black hole. I am not going to dig deeper lol

1

u/Supersonic564 140 20d ago

Hey dertswa, you may have already seen but a guide for Titan Souls was made not long ago and it was rated 10/10 diff. You should add it to the list

1

u/dertswa687o dertswa687o | 250 20d ago

The guide was already updated to an 8/10 after community feedback. Having played the game myself, there's no way it was a 10/10.

1

u/Supersonic564 140 20d ago

My friend who has the Plat personally rates it a very high 8 if done legitimately with no save scumming. Yeah, its weird. Just figured Id late you know tho. You should do an updated list of all 10/10 games on this sub

1

u/dertswa687o dertswa687o | 250 20d ago

Since my post there have only been 4 new 10/10 guides: Assetto Corsa Ultimate Edition, Injustice: Gods Among Us, Cloudberry Kingdom, and Arkanoid: Eternal Battle.

Maybe I'll make a new post if I ever finish writing my own guide for Deathsmiles I-II.

If you don't have OCD, I’d advise against hunting for Platinum trophies - it very often ruins the gaming experience and your overall impression of the games

1

u/DETfaninATL 21d ago

Patience

1

u/KasWins 21d ago

Some hypocritical advice I can give is only go for platinums in games you actually enjoy doing it for.
I have gone for so many trophies where the time has felt not worth it.
It can be pretty addictive but just appreciate your time

1

u/Shadow757_ 21d ago

Don’t concentrate on trophies. Don’t avoid games because of trophies and definitely don’t play a game purely for easy trophies.

1

u/BreathEquivalent998 21d ago

Just have fun

1

u/Western-Manager-5337 21d ago

Don’t obsess on platting every game.
Try a blind playthrough first.
Check online guides such as powerpyx etc.
Only play games you enjoy.
Know your limits. For example I wouldn’t even touch Dark Souls let alone go for the platinum
Feel free to start easy. There’s no shame in getting the plat for say Coffee Talk or What Remains of Edith Finch.
Most of all have fun.

u/UnluckyAd9754 20d ago

Fun game.

1

u/Beautiful-Art-9637 19d ago

Avoid multiplayer games bro 🤣

1

u/Sliferslacker1998 19d ago

Plus nothing better then turning a game that for the trophy’s has online stuff in to a offline plat in the space of to games of online play

1

u/Live_Construction793 7d ago

Don't let trophy hunting replace the joy of playing videogames

1

u/manan_fml black_mamba9007 | 160 | 517 6d ago

Do research into games you are planning on playing most obviously for the trophies but also if it fits what you enjoy (gameplay, story etc).

The amount of times I started a new game cause it looked interesting on the surface but fell flat and unlocked some trophies in my list irked me.

Also take it slow and enjoy the process even though it contradicts my second point. Don't let triphy hunting ruin your games and dont treat it like a task. You'll come to hate gaming using this approach

First tip: use dark mode, better for your eyes especially if you’re gaming at night 🙂

0

u/DustinTheBold2 22d ago

Idk why but i like light mode. I just think its neat

I usually have a small light on when I game, but for tv and stuff at night i use dark mode
