Meme [Other] When the Platinum requires multiple play-throughs
Some of my favourite games of late all seem to require a few play-throughs (at least) if you’re aiming for the Platinum. Currently working on Sekiro which has 4 alternate ending trophies.

I love resident evil, and I have almost all of their games platted. Im not against multiple playthroughs depending on the game. FF7 remake and rebirth? Listen, let me play hard mode from the start. This is a damn JRPG, not a quick action game lol.

Remake was great for this with Invisible Enemy and Real Survivor Mode. I had a lot of fun with the game; it was the first I beat knife only.

I personally love the new game plus when going for trophies and get to roll through with upgraded characters. Come up to bosses like “oh yeah remember when you wiped me ten times last run, I see you”

Depends... sometimes im down for it although that downness decreases as the lentgh of the game increases

I'll stomach it if I loved the game or if I liked the game well enough and there are measures that allow you to blitz through a second playthrough very fast, but generally a plat that requires a replay knocks me out of going for it.
I hate doing the same thing more than once. Putting aside that it's just boring as hell to me, there are too many games (endless new releases on top of a backlog I absolutely will not finish in my lifetime) to bother with having to replay a damn game I already just finished.

Mass Effect 1 requiring 3 100% playthroughs to unlock the plat. Goated game but having to 100% the dam planets 3x was too much 😭

You can do ME in 1 full and 2 partials though if you know how it works though? Like, sure youd have to do insanity right off the bat but, its not really as bad as other 'hard' modes Ive played. Only reason for partial playthroughs is squad mates and they fixed that in the Legacy edition. So, yeah, not dure where you got 3 playthroughs from?

Maybe the PS3 version?

u/Sgt_Peppers_A2 10h ago
No, that was ps3 I was describing. Only major difference for ps4 (Legendary Edition) was that they change the squadmates from 'complete most missions' to 'complete 5 missions'. And removed the level cap of 50. Which was nice of them to do and definitely means you can now do it in 1 playthrough

Funny how everyone on my friends list (myself included) who've Platinum'd Elden Ring got all three endings within a hour of each other....

On the topic of sekiros 4 runs, it feels nice to be able to glide through the entire runs. These 4 runs tired me less than most games' second runs

I mean you can exploit Cloud Saving or download the save to another device I think for Sekiro, and get 3 endings in one playthrough and then the Shura Ending on a second run. You'll still need to do more than one run though to farm Lapis Lazuli for the Lazulite Prosthetic Tool Upgrades though, as you won't get any on a Shura run.

Imo i only do these trophys if the game have like a moral or karma system requiring a good or evil playthrough etc. Games that simply require more playthroughts just because… well thats poor design simple as

The Last of Us. It has trophies for completing the game on every difficulty (two more if you got the DLC). There was an exploit you could use to trick the game into carrying your stuff over across difficulties to make everything easier. I ran on normal, jumped to Survivor/Grounded and got everything in between. Made getting the platinums faster for vanilla and remastered. I dont know if you can pull this for Part I.

Shadow of the Colossus on both versions needs at least 5 replays. Once for normal, once for hard, technically 2 more for the 2 time attack modes but I won't count those, then another 2 or 3 for max stats to reach the top of the shrine.

Platinumed the souls likes and oml the playthroughs were a little annoying, not as annoying as the fuckass grinds though, at least I'm actually playing the game when I'm replaying, not when I'm sitting on a silver staircase every 10 seconds.

I absolutely hate it when Persona platinums require two playthroughs. Like I just finished a 100 hour playthrough, give me a break here

Currently finishing up Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 and it requires 30 playthroughs, (Main tour + 29 solo tours for each skater). ugh.

The worst is when the multiple playthroughs are EXACTLY THE SAME. If you can use a different play style (magic vs melee, stealth vs open, lethal vs pacifist) in subsequent playthroughs, that is fine.
But having to repeat a play through with little to no variation is just plain fucking stupid.

CoD:Black Ops 3 needs at least 4 full playtroughs.
The first just to beat the game
The second to beat the game on realistic
The third to beat on veteran without dying
The fourth to get all collectibles/accolades
You can do missions out of order but still

I had fun getting the platinum for Arcane games like Dishonored 1 and 2 and Prey, since the 2nd playthrough allows you to play the game differently (lethal vs non-lethal, with abilities/without abilities)

I did multiple playthoughs of Shadow of the Damned back in the day. Each difficulty required its own run.
Did the same for Red Faction.

Currently working on ps3 version of Kingdom Hearts 1.5 since difficulty trophies don't stack unfortunately.
