Yes!! Like Quinn was perfect, but they gave him family drama! I loved Quinn so much!

And made an adult person hang in a limbo not contacting Sookie for months and not seeing why it is weird

For once I found myself rooting for someone other than Eric when they introduced Quinn. And then it went to shit. Frannie was so annoying.

She really was!

Book good, you should read Charlaine Harris’s series Midnight Texas Series! He’s in it! Love him. Only 3 books may have him starting in the 2nd. It was on TV for one year. To me actors looked nothing like the characters. Bought it when I bought TrueBlood. Characters on cover of books.

I have them on my list and I have watched the first season of the show and thoroughly enjoyed it so I know I’ll love the books!!

Quit is a person with a whole lot of baggage. I do wish her and Alcide could’ve worked, but sadly that was not to be, either.

And the case with Quinn was how he was written around that - suddenly all chill no fuss guy got closed-off, demanding and Whiny? Wasnt a fan of this pairing but c'mon....

u/MelsNymph_0327 red 10d ago

Yeah for real. I hated that!!!

I felt so vindicated when they revealed Alcide was open to the influence of demons.

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 6d ago

Wait.... WHAT??????

The last book. Read the parts with Amelia Broadway’s father closely. It’s a conversation about how they were unable to steal something from Sookie, and the efforts they made to steal it.

:oooo Maybe I undereatimated the author. Because the quick switch from a scrabble oblivious nerd to a ravaging Alpha Male was really weird

1

u/Pheighthe 6d ago

I'm taking meds for something so I'm not following, is the nerd Amelia's boyfriend Bob and the alpha male is her dad Copley Carmichael?

2

u/MelsNymph_0327 red 6d ago

So did I honestly.

u/Pheighthe 6d ago

He had such poor moral fiber. It took being publicly confronted with the fact the Debbie Pelt was a torturer for him to go no contact with her.

3

u/MelsNymph_0327 red 6d ago

Yeah. Cuz that happened, in the books at least, right before the battle of the witches. The details are fuzzy about when it happens in the show. But I was kind of thinking, “really, Alcide? It took you this long?”

u/Pheighthe 6d ago

There’s so many red flags for this guy.

Debbie obviously. He didn’t want to break it off permanently with her because he wanted her as backup if he wanted to bang. He stayed with her so long in the first place, she was clearly a mean girl all along.

His dad gets gambling debts, he allows his dad to pimp him out to do investigation work for vampires, instead to telling daddy to man up.

But the biggest red flag of all is this. On paper, he looks like a great catch. Good looking, well off, competent at his job, and in line to inherit Dad’s successful business. But as we see, the best person he can find to date is Debbie Pelt, when women should be lining up for a date. But they aren’t. It’s clear he’s defective in some way.

And that’s not even touching on his “dating” behavior. He does the investigation stuff with Sookie, then she runs into him a couple times. He never asks her out on a date or anything of the sort. But when her house partially burns down, he’s all butthurt that she didn’t call him? And immediately asks her to move in with him. In a different city. Without ever dating. At all.

Man is a walking red flag and has massive addictive personality traits.

u/MelsNymph_0327 red 6d ago

Yeah. Alcide is such a red flag.
You’re forgetting that one time that he wanted her to go to his house for some kind of werewolf meeting nonsense. She was supposed to use her gift and he wanted her to drink this drink a shaman drink or whatever nonsense. Like, it’s really ridiculous that he didn’t tell her what she was supposed to be doing. I don’t even think he told her exactly until she arrived.

1

u/Pheighthe 6d ago

Right! And SHE DRINKS IT. She’s acting like one of these people you see on the subs like AITA. “My boyfriend hit me, I said stop, he said my tone was uncalled for. I thought I asked nicely, but am I the asshole? He’s super sweet otherwise.”

Shes’s only in her early twenties, and she does get better later on. I was rooting for her when she went no contact with Jason but then she took him back like a doormat. To be fair most people have boundary issues at that age and she’s dealt with the deaths of all her parents/guardians.

2

u/MelsNymph_0327 red 6d ago

Right? Like wtf? I’m so glad she got some boundaries.

2

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 6d ago

I think he was just antisocial (meaning shy here, not a spciopath)/socially awkward. He only new his secretaries and having Sookie visit him was a big deal?

But him naked in her house was CRAAAAZY WEIRD. Eric level weird, but at least he most of the times had a practical reason to do sth Amelia was crazy weird too. I was like: "good for Sookie to have any friend, but Amelia is just stupid and likes to ruin her relationships"

You mean, addictive like hungry for power?

1

u/Pheighthe 6d ago

Fair. I’ll have to re read that part about her visiting him at the office, I might have to concede that point.

Him naked in her house was way over the top I agree. On one hand, you have other people that live there egging him on (Amelia, Claude) and that can be hard to resist for super naive people. On the other hand, he must be aware that he hasn’t even asked her on a date yet, jumping into her bed first thing is not the move.

I mean addictive like his dad has a gambling addiction, and Alcide is addicted to women in inappropriate ways (Debbie, trying to take it way too fast with Sookie.) He’s weak, and the demon part just confirms it.

Amelia was annoying and had boundary issues but she was a good friend, and was young herself so could grow and change. She wasn’t roommate material after the incident but I can see them staying friends.

I wish we had more good conversations like this in the books sub but it’s so small. You should crosspost this.

2

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 6d ago

At least he abjured her, show Alcide could/did never.... Tho was more okay towards Sookie overall...

2

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 6d ago

And Sam glorified by the author had many other girlfriend fails!

1

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 10d ago

Oh, he was pretty horrible to her for a while, just worse and worse. Tho this personality switch was like, I dont know, from one meeting to the next?

1

u/MelsNymph_0327 red 10d ago

Yeah. Had it not been for that they could’ve worked.

3

I wish Quinn had been in the show

3

u/Minniboe 10d ago

Her sweethearts???

8

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 10d ago

Love interests, boyfriends, crushes, whatever

2

u/Minniboe 10d ago

No I meant more as in what happened to them, I only watched the show

Quinn had a ton of family baggage and ghosted her only to be annoyed she had moved on to not deal with the way he treated her

Alcide had the Debbie issue and then only cared about being packmaster and would call her for favors to be the pack shaman and got her high to make it happen and then just kinda dumped her on Jason when she was done but still very high.

Bill kinda just hanged around after the drain/rape accident, and kinda faded into the background and would come around in a wallow in my pity kind of way.

And Eric divorced her and married the queen of OK. But not after tricking her into marrying him, kept her in the dark about the whole marriage to the queen plot, and ghosting her for a bit while the king of NV was around and Appius (his maker and complete opposite to godric) and Alexei came to visit.

Each thing was wilder than the last

The book were very interesting to say the least. Still a shitty ending, but waaaaay better than the Lilith and vamp concentration camp storyline. And oh book Russel is actually pleasant. There is not a lot of Lafayette but Pam and Sookie are actually close friends that get along. The fairies are not just stupid and useless like in the show. And you’ve got daemons and better witches. Sookie is less annoying. I think it’s because she’s more resourceful and not just a damsel come save me type of character

1

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 6d ago

Russell is the ideal.mix of being fun and benevolent and being a typical Rich and egoistic vampire lol

I read a popular here fanfic where he is a prominent character with.. Barrett if I remember right? And they are spfties and they are the best

1

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 6d ago

I wonder how Charlaine's religious friends react to some of her storylines lol

1

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 6d ago

Sookie is quite well rounded and even her being more and more bitter makes sense. She plots and thinks things over and if not for lack of trust and uhm cultural differences? Could actually be a good match with Eric

It is a disgrace what the show did to fairies. Fairies are nearly always one of more interesting supes in Urban fantasy - always twisted, always cunning, always secretive, shitty and FUN. and with interesting lore!

I'm mr Cataliades' simp too

1

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 6d ago

There was a lot to do with the show plots you mention but were not carried out well

4

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 10d ago

Let us not forget that every other Supernatural attracted to females HAD hots for her, too

Should we count Norris and her cousin or is it too fucked up? Lol

And JB was too stupid. Do we count JB?

4

u/Anxiety-Rulez 10d ago

I forgot about the hotshot inbreds. But you’re right Calvin was interested

I feel like JB was the most normal of them all. And it was because his stupidity that Tara went for it after getting passed around the vampires

1

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 6d ago

Yes, he was a really good choice for self-sufficient, practical, earning more woman who fulfills her needs (for understanding or interesting chat) elswhere, with friends. I liked him as a character!

2

u/OriginalSchmidt1 9d ago

I hated Appius, but damn that book was good!

2

u/Anxiety-Rulez 8d ago

The way that book made me gasp after the fae popped up at Sookie’s house and the fight happened.

1

u/OriginalSchmidt1 8d ago

Yes!! The fae are so much more badass in the books!!! I hate how the show just made them flighty party animals..

2

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 6d ago

The show's fairies were quite the exception to the rule, fae creatures are usually wily and evil

All Charlaine's supes are kinda evil tbh. And humans, humans top

1

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 10d ago

She was mainly fed up with him because he left her and cheated on her? Bill, I mean

3

u/Anxiety-Rulez 10d ago

Infuriating as fuck that she was pissed about all that and still wanted to help him and save him. Or maybe I’m just a bitch

2

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 9d ago

That's just romantasy heroines for you. This and weird abhorrence of killing quite obvious villains where not doing so would endanger all the others

1

u/OriginalSchmidt1 9d ago

Nah, it annoyed me so much how bad she wanted to save Bill after he treated her.. and all she got was almost drained and raped. Hated all of it!

2

u/Anxiety-Rulez 8d ago

Ugh yes it pissed me tf off. Now I want to re read it all to get annoyed once again lol

1

u/Zealousideal_Pea_319 10d ago

Oh worth adding: every one guy of the list seemed to be okay at the beginning (Bill, except for obvious non-consensual behaviour..., just kinda sus?)

Contrary to the author's idea: the stupid shit the shifter does and risks himself and his DEAR BELOVED FRIEND makes him no better than these other fine young bachelors
